Joe Walsh Guitarist of the Eagles and the James Gang. A Lesson that Life's Been Good. This is an inside look at Joe and some of the ups and downs in his life and career. Including the death of his 3 y/o daughter Emma. Joe has always been a favorite of mine and I guess I am a little biased when talking about him. I still think he should be rated at the top of the list when it comes to rock & roll guitarists. Life's Been Good, Funk 49 and Rocky Mountain Way. Hope you enjoy this and subscribe to the channel.

Gas stove burner? Did you keep it under something heavy as it cooled? I ironed a Replacements album that was warped for a fraction of a second in between a dry mounting board and a flat kitchen table. A failure as the record flattened but the grooves in the record were practically eradicated. I imagine there are a myriad of vids on how to unwarp a record. Definitely a subject not explored fully.

I saw Joe play a free concert for the military in 1991 at Ft Riley, KS. He was terrific, as he always is, and the fact that he gave his time for our military always meant a lot to me, thank you Mr Walsh. Joe's guitar playing is the soundtrack of my life. I can hear one of Joe's old songs and go right back to that point in my life, if only for a moment. Sometimes people imprint on us, even people we don't know or have never met. Joes music imprinted on me. I bet Joe would be surprised by how many lives he touched with his playing and singing, my eternal respect, A Friend of Bills

Joe is truly an ORDINARY AVERAGE GUY from Ohio who just happens to be a Rock genius! I am an amateur musician and the most fun thing for me to do is strap on my electric guitar, plug into my amp and wail away on "Life's Been Good!" This ALWAYS guarantees me a smile. ☺ GOD bless Joe Walsh!

Joe is one of the nicest guys in the music biz! His advice, "never play it the same way twice, just make sure they like it" rings in my ears every time I'm on stage. I love his poking fun at digital music, and digital recording. His song "analog man" is, and will always be one of my favorites! Old fashioned nice guys are hard to come by sometimes, Joe will always be one. 8) --gary.

that's hilarious I have been absolutely berating myself trying to learn the solos in hotel California and get every note exactly the way everyone on RU-vid is saying it has to be played, then I saw so e if the live versions!😂 I was like they're not playing it like on the album, then I realized wait it's their song I guess they can do whatever they want!

I'm 71, still gigging, and I stopped the note for note thing many years ago. I play what sounds good to me, and/or what I think the audience would like. After awhile you get tenured, then you can give the song what you think it needs! LOL If you like it, and the crowd is dancing/moving, go for it!! Good luck, keep rockin!! 8) --gary

It's funny you say that because I saw an interview with a guitarist the Eagles had to use on tour because someone was sick, and the advice that Joe gave him was to play the solos like you're playing them for the first time and always play them note for note. I can't remember who he was, unfortunately. I guess Eagles fans like to hear the songs exactly like the album version.

@@RiverDocs Brother, Joe is the reason I picked up the guitar in 1980. He inspired me to do it. Page and EVH are the other two, but it was Joe who I looked to first. Hey, any man with a big nosed rubber face with his crazy ,screwy looks while torturing his strings with those hyper bends of three half steps is my type of guitarist. I steal so many of his riffs that I should be in jail. His hands are huge and strong as shit like Ed`s. That is one thing I cannot copy, cuz my hands are just average size. We lost Ed, and when Joe and Jimmy pass, I just may drop into a big depression. I am 55 and who knows? Joe might still be on stage when I die, I wouldn`t be surprised ! Back in `87 or `88 I saw Joe at the old Ritz (long gone now) that held 250 people tops, and he was literally two feet in front of me. He walked on stage , went to his mic. and let a huge BUUUURRRP! out and said "How ya doooin?" in a NY accent to start the show. I went with 3 friends and we bet $20 each on what song he would open with. Dave goes "Life in..", Mike said "Funk 49" and Steve said " Turn to Stone". I said "Nope, you guys ain`t even thinkin. Where are we?" "In the City". I made 60 bucks on a no-brainer. I tried my best to get backstage and even had a tiny amount of cred cuz my band was semi-popular locally and we played L`Amours and the China club and CBGB`s alot. I even dropped names, (that is ,or was a big no-no for me 99% of the time) because it was Joe !!!! No go. Not even close. I didn`t see anyone get through. I have no clue why security was so tight that night. But just being so close and watching his fingers so I could see exactly what he was doing. He saw me doing that all night and knew I was studying him. When you are on stage (or even just hanging at a bar or a club) you easily spot the fellow musicians by their behavior, appearance and eyes. We tend to stand still with our arms crossed and look directly at the guitar or bass or drummer, depending on what you play I highly doubt anyone ever studied me, but I saw them judging me all the time. I apologize for the huge comment, I guess I was just typing my thoughts out as fast as they came. Thank you for the video River, I loved it ! Cheers man.😲💥👍🎸🎸🎤🎧🎶🔥

So sorry for all your losses Joe, but I congratulate you for carrying on! Your rough years of drugs are over, and you were strong and brave to achieve Rehab. You’re having an amazing life! I grew up in NE Ohio. In 1969 I was attending college and playing guitar in a local band. One night I went to a club, The Freak Out, in Niles, Ohio to hear local phenom, Phil Kaeggy and his band, The Glass Harp. At a break, Phil acknowledged Joe Walsh in the audience and a little later invited Joe to the stage. These two incredible musicians jammed for like non-stop 15 minutes, playing off each other and clearly having a good time doing it. It was an amazing spontaneous point in time I was so for to witness. After it all, I realized my future would not be as I rock guitarist, so I stayed in school instead.

Yes that's true, but Walsh and Don Felder together are the main reason for their success. Frey and Henley wrote great Lyrics, but so did Walsh, Felder, Schmidt, and their bass player prior to Schmidt. Yet Henley and Frey want all the credit and all the money. Frey had a good "average" voice. Henley has an amazing voice, but Walsh and Felder's guitars put the EAGLES on the map as a great sound, great rock band, not just your run or the mill country-rock band. All of them together were a hard working band that deserve the accolades they've received, not just Frey and Henley. It's sad to see when a successful band end up quibbling and leaving a legacy of a bunch of spoiled greedy buttheads when it should have been a bunch of great friends, great musicians, great songwriters who in a world of drugs, greed, violence, hatred, they should have remained known as a successful bunch of men who worked hard, had each other's back, men of equal talent, and men who saw the talent in each other, and loved and respected each other to the very end. Their won't ever be another "EAGLES" whose harmonies soared higher, sounded fuller, and rang truer that the EAGLES. God bless you all from then to now and May God bless you all for the music you gave this world. How great it would be to be able for you to forget the hate and negativity and remember the smiles and good times and to share it all in one last tour of the world and have all of those who made and make you great, if for nothing else but for your fans who would so appreciate it. I'm sure it would bring back many a great memory as well as many tears for 2-4 hours in our lives which now long for positive love and the greatest music ever played by the greatest band who played it and sang it like no others. Come on guys, leave us with one last amazing legacy to remember and put the past behind and bring back the love and spread forgiveness, even if, even if, you don't love each other anymore😇🇺🇸🇺🇦❤️🤫

I've seen them all (great guitarist) over the years, but Joe is clearly a cut above 98% Funk 49 is a classic from the time it was released!! ❤❤❤

Ok 68, I'm 74 and saw Joe Walsh with the James Gang in 1969 when the opening act was Led Zeppelin.

"Rides Again" was one of the first three albums I bought waaay back when. It still rides high on my playlist today. The duet...as it were...with Don Felder in "Hotel California" is simply classic. A sound that while defining Joe as one of the best ever, also shows that his chops can blend with others without losing their "Joe-ness". You brought to mind Dwane and Dickie, and I have to agree that the two Eagles albums with Don and Joe are as classic as the ABB discs with the duo of D n D.

Back in 75' I went to my second concert it was The Eagles doing the " On the Border tour " . It must have been one of the last stops on that tour because Joe Walsh was with them and they played some songs from Hotel California ! When they announced Joe Walsh was with them and played Rocky Mountain Way I almost lost my mind ! I had no idea he was even going to be there . PK

in early 2000s Joe showed up at this kind of dive bar with small outdoor area and played a few numbers. That was so surreal to me. I saw him years before solo in the concert hall. Always funny and a good guitar palyer. Who doesn't like Joe Walsh?

Very well made recap. I enjoyed!! The man is a walking legend indeed. We tend to judge too fast. We never know the burden each one carries and how they deal with them. To have turned the page for good shows his character.

I had the pleasure of supporting him an a band called the party boys back in Australia 1990's. We supported him at 3 venues in Perth and he was such a character. I can clearly remember his hands were massive and took a keen liking to my 81, Les Paul gold top. I still own it today and record with it regularly. All in all such an amazing blonde and sensational musician.

I thought I knew a little about Joe Walsh. I may have but it wasn't what mattered. I'm from the south but currently live near Akron, Ohio. The music store where I bought my son's and my first guitars, sported a picture of the original owner and Joe on the wall. Story was Henry of Henry's Music kept Joe employed back in those early years. I know that to this day, he is still well loved around here.

I saw the old TV appearance where he wears a Tie-Dye t-shirt --- He was absolutely HAMMERED, when the song was done and he started talking to the Host he couldn't even speak. ... He's my Hero for standing up, shaking himself off and saving his life. (GREAT Bio Man, lookin' forward to more!)

Loving your doco’s ! Just like you, I may be a bit biased. I consider Joe Walsh a once in 10 generations guitar player and vocalist. It’s not that he is different (which he is ), or that he has a unique style ( which he does ), it’s the simple fact that his music comes from his heart and soul and is part of his genetic make up. I was privileged to see Joe at one of the Eagles Hell Freezes Over live concerts and it was for me the absolute highlight of the show. The second highlight was him and Don Felder playing together……you are so right in saying they complement each other so well ! Keep them coming !

I have to say that 'Barnstorm' is certainly one of my all time favs. Love the atmosphere created by the songs on this album. Wore out the cassette in the 1970's, scored an Original Master Recording on CD in 1990 and finally in 2020 I was able to find a near mint original vinyl pressing. Wonderful stuff.

Even though he is from before my era, Joe Walsh is in my top 3 of allll time, easily. Might even be #2. As soon as I became aware of him and his work (my mom playing me James Gang records she has and always loved), I was all in. After that, I sought out everything Joe Walsh. Joe is a beast. \m/

I feel a kinship to Joe, growing up,in the Akron,,Kent,Canton, area, seeing The James Gang, playing the college clubs and bars, and opening for whatever act that played in the area. I kind of followed Joe's patch, minus, the drugs and music.Well in 1991,I ,like Joe, got into a put up or shut situation, and I check into Rehab, into where some of Akron' musicians checked into. About 2 weeks left in my rehab, me and another guy in my group, before our morning AA meeting, took turns writing a line our 2 ,on the board, from "Hotel California". Seems those lines,in that song, rang true to our disease. Clean and sober since 10-17-91. I realized that, I "could check out anytime you like,.........but you can never leave". I often wondered if Joe relates the lyric like that..

I like Joe's playing and his personality. Great sense of humor. I loved when he was sitting with a guitar in his hands, looks down, freaks out and throws it! I still laugh when I think about it.
