Deep seals, putbacks, post up footwork, a variety of different angles of hooks and layups through contact, all kinds of midrange jumpers, and quick reads that lead to great passes. 7'1" 280 pounds moving like that and it's too much for Wemby, Collins, Sochan, and a relatively uncoordinated and inconsistent Spurs team defense, but some people just want to talk about free throws and statpadding. Hate him all you want for the flopping and the alleged flaws in his attitude at times, that stuff kinda annoys me at times too, but his combinantion of natural talent, offseason work ethic, and ability to learn as he go is generational. Let's not forget this guy didn't play any kind of organized basketball until he was 16 and used to look like a fawn on ice playing high school and AAU ball in Florida. Without his work ethic and learning ability he would have probably become a slightly bigger Clint Capela. Hope he really takes it to the next level especially in the playoffs, now that he finally has a good Xs and Os coach in the form of Nick Nurse.

His mid range jump shot was absolutely on fire, at least 18-20 pts were from those alone! Wemby also was kind of lax defending him at times, but it might be more due to stamina issues rather than lack of effort. Either way, congrats to Embiid!

Embiid does so much midrange. Its so impressive, you would think with his size he would score most of the points in paint. These shots are unguardable. I think some highlights from Wemby you feel like, if he would now just throw nooone could defend it (usually misrange) then he proceeds to dripple or pass.

Damn u living in the past Fr bro 😂 let him prove himself this time at least.. bet you he goes further n has a bigger impact.. if his team just learns defense and pass him the ball .. scoring 30 on wembyana and 45 on jokic.. his skill is very much unmatched right now and that's just the reality.. he might rest it take off time but it's obvious he be somewhere working on different areas of his game to make him unguardable unless you triple team him .. n now he got enough shooters to dish it out.. they can completely run the offense through him now
@0608jeff
@0608jeff 8 месяцев назад
nah fam he's had more 35-40 pt games in the playoffs than sub-20 games, and that's including the fact that he's been playing through injuries every time he got in the playoffs. last season's game 7 against the Celtics and some of those games against the 2019 Raptors were really bad indeed, but plenty of all time great players, including some of your favorite players, have had similar kinds of awful playoff moments. Hakeem barely had any playoff success until he was like 32 yet we all praise him for having the best footwork and best two way impact of centers all time, Wilt fell short against the 60's Celtics Dynasty countless times and won chips when he changed his game to benefit his team. Embiid could also be on a similar trajectory

A lot of people say that MJ would average over 40 ppg in this era and now I wonder if Olajuwon can do too because of how Embiid is dominating the league by just shooting midrange jumpshots and freethrows...
@0608jeff
@0608jeff 8 месяцев назад
Olajuwon would play a style similar to Embiid's if he were to play right now. Teams are super quick to pack the paint and double/triple talented big men, so getting faceup plays in the midrange is really important if you want to score as a center. Jokic is also hitting a lot of faceup jumpers and floaters and he doesn't get doubled nearly as much in the post thanks to his vision

Has his midrange improved drastically this season? Where was this during last year's 2nd round series vs the Celtics. He was horrible for a couple of those games
@dom12011
@dom12011 8 месяцев назад
That’s why he improved his mid range so he wouldn’t have to drive and rely on calls when the paint is clogged up in the playoffs I think that mid range is going to be key for his play off run
@sgshumblecrumb6046
@sgshumblecrumb6046 8 месяцев назад
His mid range has been like this for 2-3 seasons. His playoff struggles are a combination of health and his team's roster construction and coaching being overexposed at that stage of the season. Nick Nurse is the first coach he's had who I don't expect to be overmatched in the postseason, and the floor spacing and tempo is finally balanced due to the on court personnel complimenting his game better. Sometimes "fit" is more valuable than "star power." Harden was up and down as a playoff performer and very ball dominant and slow. The Sixers last season were good but very slow-paced and iso-heavy offensively. In previous seasons, Simmons as a shooter was basically equivalent to Deandre Jordan as a shooter, so he was always a huge square peg next to the post-scorer Embiid. With the emergence of Maxey as a star caliber player, Joel finally has his perfect number 2 scorer. Jimmy Butler could've been that guy but the presence of Simmons was still creating spacing problems offensively so that didn't end up working out in the end. Now Ben and other paint cloggers like Matisse and PJ are out of the picture in Philly. If there's someone on the floor with Joel who teams don't have to defend from 3, they double and triple team him in the playoffs, and no one is able to make them pay for it. This is the same way the Celtics swept the Nets while shutting down Durant ( a similar mid-range style scorer) a couple of seasons ago in the first round. Too much isolation and not enough off ball movement and/or spacing is exposed in the playoffs against defensively creative teams. This should be less of an issue this postseason for Joel due to the aforementioned differences this season , so between that and maintaining his health, he may finally get to exercise some of his longstanding playoff demons.
