How is Joel Embiid so dominant as a scorer right now? Against Utah, he scored 59 points and nearly registered a quadruple double. This detailed film breakdown looks at his evolutionary combination of skills and size, making him both a traditional post-scoring big man AND a giant, oversized wing player who can drive, shoot and change directions from the perimeter.

Man, I would love so much to place him in 1995. To see the chess match of Ewing, Robinson, young Shaq, Olajuwon going against Joel and each of them trying to figure each other out would be such a treat. If it happened, would Shaq actually develop a midrange shot, would Ewing get in the gym to develop his handles, would Olajuwon develop 3 point range, would Robinson extend his range and get a better back to the basket game?

@@cameronbrown367 if emiid was coming at you would you try to guard him or foul him? Hes a more dominant offensive player while jokic is a more fundamentals, and strategic player. @@cameronbrown367 agree entirely. Basketball is (imo) probably the most visually spectacular sport because every player makes a difference and there are so many skills and types of athletes involved. it would be sick to see constant basketball without commercials and free throws. But to be honest without those breaks everyone would get gassed as hell and theyd be slippin on sweat left and right. If they make it so there are less calls, then defense gets crazy and the game would slow down. It would be all about roided out big men beating each other up. Still, there is a reason not everyone gets the same amount of free throws. Harden gets em cause his stepback is ridiculous, giannis and embiid to slow them down, kd because he can shoot in your face at any second etc. it’s not because most players have more sportsmanship. Its cause fouls are the only way to stop them. And… they play into it and refs pick favorites. Not much you can do.

Embiid has dominated the post every game he plays since he entered the NBA.... it's just very few teams ever challenge him by attacking the rim in the 1/2 court.... & w/ Embiid stationed behind him, Simmons was able to take risks ob perimeter Defense by getting up on his man w/ no fear of dribble penetration b/c the guard or wing was too intimidated by Embiid in the paint to blow past Simmons Not saying Simmons sux on Def.... but w/o Embiid behind him he'll need to back off otherwise athletic guards & wings will set him on fire w/ dribble penetration in the 1/2 court & once he backs off they can shoot over Ben much easier When a team has a Dominant Big that team can Dictate how they want they want to play the game - slow, fast, up tempo, low tempo & they can force a team to play to their weakness instead of their strength

Beautiful, the most gracious giant i've ever seen, his agility is a joy that i could watch for hours. But it must be sooooo tiresome for someone that height and weight to move like that, i'm shocked he can even do this but i wonder how much he can sustain. As tiredness sink in some weapons are going to weaken and disappear, some tendencies become more glaring.

Joel doesn’t have a handles package like Durant. The most he has is the triple threat in common.

@mitchellkarsor3768 Год назад
@@allstar4065 He's got handles Rarely has to use more than a few dribble moves tho he can just catch and go or move people out the way with his body and finish through contact Or he can Durant skinny. So he has to use his handles to get by the defenders. So you'll see him dancing with the ball a hundred times trying to get a bucket. Just cause you don't do something a lot Doesn't mean you can't do it if you have to

Holy heck. He always said he was a fan of Wilt and thought that Wilt was the GOAT. And then a great youtuber 70sfan posted a vid about how Joel was getting closer to mimicking Wilt's fadeaway. And then... what I saw there was Wilt's fadeaway. Exactly. He has it down perfect. And sure, it took him a while, but he's had an injury riddled career... and nobody teaches this stuff nowadays. But he has mastered Wilt's go-to move. I already thought that he was one of the best NBA players now. But if he could stay healthy, he's on track to be a GOAT contender. This is absolutely unbelievable.

@0608jeff
@0608jeff Год назад
Given the way he plays right now, do you think he could get any better if he trims down to around 265-270 pounds? I feel that he would have more stamina, move more quickly and have more bounce on both ends of the floor, be less injury prone, and still have a size+strength advantage over most big men in the league, and potentially be even better overall especially in the playoffs.
@cristianokabulanzomboepera379
but he would be less powerful he's good like thist and i remain you that he's not fully healthy

When you look at the highest points per possession (per poss, per 75, per 100, whatever) season by a center ever it's absurd how many of them is every season of Embiid's career including his rookie year, and how the last 2 seasons of Joel top that list by a pretty big amount even over legends like Shaq, Wilt, Kareem

Have said for some time he is the most talented center of all time there are those that are greater more dominant better playoff performers no doubt so don’t get it confused but talent ? Complete & diverse skill set none have ever been this way with a true bigs skill set + everything else , ability to hit 3s at a reliable rate , mid range game , low post back to the basket dominance force strength , handles , fluidity , agile , touch & footwork all at a high level .. & the defensive end as a rim protector an can guard on the perimeter.. just a generational talent in every sense, I Truly hope PHI maximizes his best years ..

05:01 This just looks like good shooting to me, rather than the defender getting cooked. Poetl defended this decently: didn't overcommit on the fakes, didn't get dropped off by the spin and still contested the shot. I think Poetl's awareness of a potential final fake made his last step slightly slow, allowing Embiid a slighly better sightline to the hoop.

I think, and this is just my opinion, Embiid would be more unstoppable if he can start his offense in the low post with greater frequency. If he can catch it deep on either block, play more of a power game a la Shaq, and do less of these jumpshots, be like 57% on the field, he'd be even more harder to contain. If he can assert himself this way, especially late in close games, he can really make the case on being the absolute best player on the planet. Being more of like Shaq sprinkled with some Olajuwon skillset would put him on an all-time level.
