Many of the old testament laws were culturally based for the times, but homosexual behavior is stated as "an abomination" in God's eyes. That does NOT mean that God hates them, only their behavior. My brother was gay and it cost him his life (AIDS). Going to a wedding is standing in approval of their union. I could not go to a gay wedding even if it was for a relative or friend...I just couldn't, not as a believer because its goes against the scriptures and what God stands for. Sure God loves all people no matter who they are but he does not love their sins. To go to a wedding like that would be like saying 'I don't have a problem with this, its ok and I'm very happy for you.' This interview shows the true character of Joel Olsteen at the time and I really hope he learned from this and repented about his wishy washy position between the word of God and the favor of man. So many pastors and people are afraid to speak the plain truth of what God's word says. They want to water it down and not offend anyone. Yes, God is love but He also is just and righteous. He gave Moses the Ten commandments to give to us to follow. God also listed the 7 deadly sins and those things He finds abhorrent. It's up to the individual to study His word and not solely rely on the words of a pastor, especially ones who are clearly not walking the walk or adhering to only teaching what is written in the scriptures. If a pastor says something or for that matter anyone you meet who says something that does not line up to the scriptures, they are not truly following God and speaking falsehoods. You yourself must rely on doing your own reading and studying and always asking God for discernment to understand. Keith Green was a good example of what it meant to be a true follower of Jesus, a man of no compromise, no gray area with him...God says, you're either for me or against me. So just make sure in your own walk that you stay close to the Lord and do your best to follow what God says to do and to ask him for direction and wisdom in each decision you do like it says in Proverbs 3:5-6. As a Christian, you still will make mistakes but when you ask God to forgive and help you with it, He will. He sees and knows your heart and knows you want to follow Him....sometimes it may be hard but lean on Him....if you look to others they will let you down but God never will....keep your eyes on Him.

I have found in my walk with God that most times it is better to show someone you love them than try to prove to them you are right. God has the rest under control. Don't underestimate God. You just do your part and leave the rest to God. He's pretty awesome that way. His love can overpower the sin. Just let His love shine through you so that He can speak to them. In other words, you just be the vessel that brings and shows God's love and let Him be the Source. He does the convicting. God never condemns, He only convicts. Condemnation is Satan's way.

I Have friends who are gay they know i am a Christian and i share the word of God with them even on homosexuality but i let them know i love them but cannot condone their acts of sin. They accept my beliefs and they know i love and care for them and that i pray for them but i dont think to segregate myself from them would be right either. Who knows if something you say may just turn the light on for them i certainly didnt get save the first time somebody witnessed to me. I would not attend the wedding but i would sit them down and explain why and let them kno i still love them. I will be sad if they die in that sin i would attend the funeral because death comes to us all we all will die with some sin in our lives we are not perfect. Jesus didnt avoid the sinners he went and ate with them but more importantly he wanted to give them that opportunity to turn their lives around. Theres a story where there is two roads one road has people going to heaven the other with people going to hell the people going to hell are shouting to those going to heaven why didnt you tell me. I dont ever want that to happen to me that their destiny could have been different if only i had shared Gods word with them

I would think if you don't agree with homosexual marriage and being a pastor then you shouldn't attend the wedding. And I would just tell them I'm happy for you but I cannot attend your wedding since I don't condone it. My daughter and her partner were recently married at their home with a relative. I attended the wedding. I'm happy for them and if that's what they want to do they're adults I agree with them. They're not hurting anyone. It is wrong in God's eyes and they will suffer the consequences when they meet him face-to-face at the time of their passing.
Joel Osteen is sending bad mixed messages to his friend by attended his gay marriage. He should be obedient to the word of God and not go, by doing that he his showing his friend he loves him and doesn't want him to commit an abomination in the eyes of God and suffer eternal death, he needs to stand up for the word of God as he says and show his friend his belief in the word of God and faith. I am a gay man that struggles with this very particular dilemma, as I am clearly attracted to men and attempted dating women. However I also believe this could be because I had NO father/male role model in my childhood, muchless my adolescence. Parents, please be aware of the importance of the father figure/male role model in your son's life! AND encouragement of following God's principals outlined in His Word, the Bible. When it comes to sexual protocol, there are SEVERAL mentions of how to go about having ("straight") sex. We should not engage in sex before marriage Men should not have sex with women on their period ...and several more biblical words that, I believe, is wisdom to live by, not necessarily (words of) judgement. To be clear, I AM a fan of Joel Osteen, and do believe he's a genuine minister of the Word of God, as he exhibited here. He's clearly NOT judging, but simply iterating the Bible.
There are many exgay people on youtube. You can watch their testimony. One thing you should do is giving God thanks and Give him the glory. The Bible talks about people being give up to a reprobate mind.

I grew up learning that God hates the sin not the sinner. If you come to God with a pure intentioned heart and ask for forgiveness and turn away from that sin God WILL forgive you.

I was fine with him being around my grandchildren at family events. The interviewer needs to shut up long enough to let Joel answer the question. He looks at gay marriage the same way I do. He believes it's a sin for homosexual people to marry but he still respects them as people, as some of his friends. Even though he doesn't believe in it HE'S NOT JUDGING ANYONE for their choice to do so. He let's God do the judging! That's one of the many things that's makes him a good Christian man of God!
He said that Homosexuality is a sin. He said he would not marry two gay men. And he said that even though he holds to his beliefs, and believes the scriptures, he does not hold anything against the gay community. What are you Pharisees saying is wrong with that?
The only problem I have is that we as the church should confront the sin and exhort the to leave that sin. If not we are supposed to cut ties with them if they refuse to forsake sin. Instead he seems to welcome them and the sin.

Perhaps you find your comment to be clever, well you do or else you wouldn't have posted it. Your reference to the scripture about "sell all you have/own and give it to the poor" is a statement by Christ himself to redirect the trust in wealth and riches. In fact one of Christ's wealthy disciples was responsible for burying him post-crucifixion. Despite the money Joel has made, and we perceive that it is alot, those are his earnings. We are not sure how they were earned, his own statement is that he makes his money doing other things besides what we know all about. That scripture is not admonishing us to not be wealthy but to not let the wealth hinder our spiritual walk/journey.

If God called someone to do His work, they would not do any other work, in-fact they wouldn't have the time to do something else in the first place. Just like all the 12 disciples, they would leave whatever they're doing and follow God. I don't believe Joel was called by God. All 12 disciples (not Judas but Paul) were killed and No one made riches of this world but in heaven. :) You're free to believe in what you want, but link everything to Bible and God will answer your questions.
I was picturing myself in that room and how I would answer those questions and how difficult it would be to answer according to God’s Word and at the same time not offend any one. The Truth will offend, convict, enrage, but it will also correct, build, and motivate if spoken!
