Joell is very particular with signing. He won't just pen a deal. The way the industry was then and even more so now you can't blame the man. It's hard to stay creative when your anchored to expectations set by labels. This also applies to Slaughter House due to the group stigma. Joell is doing just fine..believe me..Like the man said"I just want to rap".

Y'all need to stop getting your hip hop information from "8 Mile." A lot of you nubs are confusing freestyles with cyphers. A cypher is a freestyle spitten off the stop. A freestyle in a general sense is any verse that doesn't follow a traditional song structure. So freestyles can be written or cypher.

The definition of a Freestyle is to spit a verse that is "Free of Style" meaning that it does not have a specific topic that it is talking about. Whether it is Written or off the top, if it doesnt have a topic or theme then it is a Freestyle.
It's crazy how people will always find fault in a verse no matter the difficulty. It should be a requirement that when someone attacks a verse, they should upload a verse harder that they spit personally so they could be taken seriously. I believe he's using his phone to record his rhymes so he can post the video on his social media platforms for himself. He rhymed for 6 minutes straight without a hook or chorus...I don't think people actually realize the magnitude of the volumes he just spit in that timeframe.
