Being in middle school & high school at this time was so amazing. So many greats from this era were just blowing up: A$AP, Big Sean, Kendrick, Wale, Drake, Pro Era, Childish Gambino, Isaiah Rashad, The Weeknd, Mac Miller, Chance, J. Cole, ScHoolboy Q, Wiz, Chief Keef, Odd Future, Lil B, Kid Cudi, Ab-Soul, etc. I swear the late 2000s and early 2010s gave us the last big wave of future legends. If you grew up through the rise of these artists then you know how nostalgic this shit gets.
"I passed the dutch to the left and it started to make sense, It's funny how I see it more straight when I'm bent" I've spent days literally just thinking about that one line
From Joey Badass's album 1999, and his mixtape Summer Knights he had J Dilla produce a track, and the late but great MF Doom produce a track. This man was so far ahead of his time and we didn't even know it.
David Buck The industry is fucked, don't fall far it. Don't allow other's to use you. Don't desire to live like the "evil and corrupt." Serpents everywhere.
J Dilla had a hugeeeeeeee collection of beats before he passed away! There are literally probably hundreds of beats we haven't heard from Dilla's collection. When he passed away, Busta Rhymes said he was given a huge crate of Dilla's unreleased beats. Dilla literally lived in the studio. Some people he knew said he wouldn't even leave to eat. Also, Dilla's beats are circulated a lot, you can pick up his instrumentals. With that kind of work ethic, his beats will last 100 lifetimes!
This song always gets me. From the first time I heard it I knew it would be one of my favourites for years to come. One of Joeys best songs. Big shoutout from germany.
He's so amazing at changing up his flow he can do a song with Audio Push and grind his voice to make a song come out grimy and dope af but he can also get all chill and rock it calm. Such a versatile dude and I need some more of this dude spittin with Dyemond Lewis
Joey was really born in 1976. I feel like he should be in his 40s now having experienced the awesome purity of the 90s. He's such an old soul. This feels like Native Tongue Era Hip-Hop. He's incredible! ❤️
listening to this guy rapping almost gets me teary!! i'm a 41 year old white guy, and i LOVE how old school he sounds!! i hope he NEVER changes!!! LOVE the old school hip hop always and forever, and this guy makes me think of Common!!! maybe a little like a young Nas too

One of my fave songs by Joey tbh, T’nah Apex reminded me of Lauryn Hill. Where has she been?! 😭 I know she left PE but nobody has heard from her :( she’s so talented
only a Dilla beat can shake all up. If u listen to songs with his classic boom bap and the charming melody, ain't be than Dilla!! R.I.P. Legend, you be missed
i ain't throwin shade or nothin but i weren't hearin his soul on b4da$$ like i'm hearing it on this joint. not implying hes taking steps back but it makes me wonder. Perhaps his soul colliding with dilla's is equivalent to a unicorn leaping through clouds every 6000 years.
+Jedi Maneuvers hahahaha that last line. I agree though. and to add I think there was just so much magic infused with this, his first tape, etc...it's like how do you top your first album if it becomes a insta classic lmao.
Never knew Joey and Dilla collab on a track before. I knew about Joey around 2012. Dilla left the world in 2006 though. RIP to one of the world best producer!
Bro, 2pac brought that verse up in "Keep your head up" in strictly for my niggaz, back in 93' have you been living under a rockc or what? Get your game straight Son :D
I'm truly blessed to have been listening to the likes of Joey Steez n the Era since I was a homeschooled tweenager. Truly timeless music I can grow old to
jesus, Joey himself is talented af but the beats he rides on are so fucking smooth. I dont rap but find myself rhyming to most of the shit he raps over
