Can we just appreciate that even tho Brett doesn’t get to play every day anymore he goes out there and gives his all for the fans when he’s in the lineup? That flex gets the creatures so pumped up. Reminds me of the days of the Swisher Salute. Wish more guys did more than just a wave but I guess it makes us love the few who give us special gestures even more.
I'm a Cubs fan and I've been to one Yankees home game when my family took a trip to NYC ten years ago. My dad, on a whim, decided to try and scalp some tickets for a Yankees game so we went to the Bronx and ended up getting tickets for seats 9 rows behind the 3rd base dugout because some guy and his son had a couple cancel plans on him. He explained the roll call as it happened and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Glad to see Rizzo a part of it now.
I remember as a kid going to my first Yankee game in 1998. I was fortunate to sit in the bleachers that day. I had so much fun participating in the roll call. I thought the roll call was standard in every park. I was quite mistaken lol. Come to find out this is only a Yankee stadium tradition that will always continue! NYY fans are the greatest!!!!!!
63 years old - longtime Yankees fan from California. Told the wife in 2019 that we were going to Yankee Stadium, to sit in right field, on metal bleachers, facing the sun, with uncensored fans. She asked WHY? After explaining the bleacher creatures to her, she was the LOUDEST roll caller in the section. Best seats in the house!
I’ve sat on the outer fringe of the Creature’s section, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness up close. The lead cheer guy stands in front of the section with his back to the field so his voice carries up to the Creatures. He shouts out/up the name and the required cadence for the next position player, so the chorus is prepped to get it right. One or two other guys act as spotters. They face the field and notify the lead cheer guy when the game action timing is right for the next introduced player to hear and respond. I get chills just thinking about how well this works, and the coolness of the player’s acceptance of a time-honored ritual..
Not a yankee fan, but sat in roll call before. It was pretty awesome 👌 Mattingly was manager of the Dodgers, they called out Donnie baseball and Mattingly heard from the dugout, he stepped out and waved. It was pretty cool
Assuming Rizzo stays with the Yankees by the time the cubs come to yankee stadium for an interleague series. I’ll be the one to show up in my Rizzo cubs jersey.
