One thing about Joey that I respect the fuck out of is he never shit talked anyone. Even during the early days when the band was super edgy he was always humble and respectful. RIP you absolute legend
@@MultiSolana just dropped out of nowhere. Came home from school that day & my mum showed me the news. And I thought I was reading fake news, & ended up crying for over an hour. Then watched any Joey video I knew of. RIP Joey, we love you & rest well you drumming legend. ❤️
well yeah...Joe was also the main SK songwriter along with Paul. I used to find that amazing that the drummer and bass player wrote Iowa on guitars and handed them off to Jim and Mick to refine.
Breaks my heart to see this. What a talented and humble guy. He would have made a great music teacher, talking about the practicing and the dedication kids need to have to play. So sad. A guy that's literally my short height and could play with such ferocity and aggression like he was some super, strong muscular guy and the blast beats he did, they cannot be matched by anyone else. It's almost like he had Incredible Hulk strength. Amazed by him.
This man was not only an awesome drummer but a true artist... he always amazed me as he was was a whole package in the music scene! Slipknot members should be ashamed, they did him dirty and broke his heart badly but then at the end he got to play some sick ass extreme metal so .... this one will always hurt! RIP #1
Rip Nathan Jonas Joey Jordison 💚 1998 I first heard his drumming, from then I was in live with the drumkit, il never forget you man, would be impossible, I named my first daughter after you man, I hope you've transcended to a better place than this, you deserve that and more 💚
One of the things I have always loved about this man is the fact that, let's face it....he is one of the greatest drummers and songwriters to ever live, and despite that, he is one of the most humble guys on the face of the earth. God bless you, Joey!
I'm rewatching this in the wake of Joey's recent passing, at @8:50 it feels quite poignant yet inspiring how he shared his life story struggling with his illness strived to get in shape for the love of drumming and music in general. He was my drum hero in my teenage years, and I can only thank Drumtalk for this video. Rest in peace, (#1).
Man... what a terrible loss. I remember being 11 years old and into Mudvayne when they came out around 2000. My mom let me buy the first Slipknot record not long after that and I only bought it because the artwork looked scary to my young eyes haha. “Me Inside” was the first song I listened to and I will never forget the feeling I got when I heard that double bass. Wildly improvisational, frenetic, and creative are the words that come to mind but that doesn’t do his playing justice. There’s a Latin term called Sui Generis that I love. It means “of its own kind.” That’s the only way I can accurately describe Joey’s drumming. RIP Joey. Only the good die young.
Idk why this one is bothering me so much, I never knew this man other than him being in the band slipknot. Even Paul's death didn't bother me as much as Joey's is. Rest in peace Joey jordison, you will be missed by so many.
This dude is so legendary. He may not be the most technical but he had such an impact on my playing, and so many other drummers playing. I’ll always love Joey. Nice one, Drumtalk.
He influenced a generation and introduced double bass and blasts and intensity to the nu-metal genre in a way the other guys just werent doing. You can listen back to slipknot's self titled album and hear this stuff and i think thats really amazing.
does someone need to explain to you that music is subjective? what makes you think i dont listen to a variety of music? tons of people love blast beats and extreme metal and they are far from tasteless. you sound like one of those guys who is just no fun to talk about music with.
Heartfelt interview. Always keep learning, listen to other music even if you don’t like it because you never know what you’re going to learn. RIP Joey J 🙏🏼 🥁
This man, is the man who inspired me to drum and do my best, every time I hear him drum or talk about it. He's such an inspirational person with all that he's accomplished and the hardships he has endured.
This was a Fabulous interview with Joey,So going to miss him, his crazy talent was undeniable, his smile so beautiful,he was a beautiful soul who loved what he did immensely, he's definitely going to be missed in the rock world, and by the many who loved him, from slipknot, Murderdolls, scar the martyr, sinsaeum, and vimic and all the bands he played with in between, 😖 still can't believe he's gone, rest in peace Joey 🖤😖💔
R.I.P Joey I'm so glad I got to see you perform twice and the 1st time was right on my door step.you helped me get through a tough time in my life when the 1st album dropped and am so grateful for that.here I am now 43 years old much older and not much wiser than before but thank you and rest in peace Mr Jordison.❤️❤️❤️
I remember seeing Dave Lombardo and Joey jordison step in for Lars Ulrich at a download ( I can't remember if it was called download or ozz fest, they kept changing the name of the festival , once they stopped using the monsters of rock name)back in the day, glad I got to see it.
REST IN PEACE JOEY JORDISON, you will be greatly missed by millions of people, thank you for your musical legacy,it will live on,in 100 years time a kid will hear a song with Joey playing on it, and that kid will want to be a drummer because of that . One of a kind, people need to understand how Joey was responsible for a different sound of drumming,he may not have been the best technical drummer out there, but he was the back bone of slipknot at the beginning, and throughout their rise to stardom.
Such a humble guy! Miss him making new music, but we are fortunate to have a great catalogue to listen to. Great questions, by the way. It was more like a normal chat.
RIP my guy! I loved his style of playing and watched his videos live with Slipknot tearing up the stage with his fast feet busting the hell out of those bass drums.
*god fuckin dammit man talk about taking things for granted, you were and are a KING* *rest in POWER* *and may God Bless you and your family for a thousand glorious years*
The man who made me want to pick up drumsticks. An absolute Legend and a very sweet man. I bet eventually he'll go back to Slipknot. At least that's what I'm hoping for. He belongs back with the guys.
Walpurgisnacht9 Same... He was the inspiration. No one else. So I look up to him so much; my style is heavily inspired by him. Glad to see him still playing
Wonderful interview! Joey has always intrigued me. When I heard about his medical issues, my heart ached for him. I understand the feeling and fear of possibly loosing the music. The awesome part is that he is proof of what ones love for music “anything really” is capable of! Always wanted to hear him in an interview but for one reason or another, I never bothered to search an interview out until now. Glad I did! Thank you drum talk! Thank you Joey🤘❤️✌️
I was stunned to hear of his passing. This is the first exclusive interview I’ve watched of just him. Videos like this will help immortalized the man beyond just his music.
I've always respected Joey's hustle and him as a musician. You can definitely see his scars but he still here doing what he loves much respect to him 💯💖💯
Rest in peace Joey! You were one of the greats and so down to earth. Huge loss your druming is legendary!!! Thanks for the music you'll never be forgotten.
Gotta love joey. Before I finish watching the whole video I wonder how many times he’s gonna say the word “ like “ in this interview? I’ve heard him in other interviews and he like cracks me up
Really enjoyed this interview. He looks so so good, so happy to see him getting his health back. He deserves it so much. Hes been my favourite musician for years because his passion is second to none. Hes a workaholic and so genuine, he can do it all. So proud of him. Love him ❤
Ah, this isn’t gonna come out right, but here we go: God dayum, slipknot was a hug part of my junior high + life. I remember hearing Surfacing and that double bass part (you’ll know if it was the first time it struck you with possibilities) and he was a part of the “omg this could change metal” era and I remember it fondly. thank you for doing what you did. I’m not religious, but if anyone deserves peace, it’s you brother. Man, death is such a strange thing. Natural, but it feels so wrong. Life is weird. I’ve been trying not to drink recently (for the last year or so), but fuck me if I miss out on this. We will love and miss you and that hurt makes the memory worth remembering. So the hurt I will bear, and the tears I will shed, because for you, they are worth it. Thank you again, Joey. Man, taking responsibility for those we lose fucking hurts, but builds us up. Don’t wipe the tears away, they mean something. And they deserve to be seen.
Fuck man it's like you stole these words straight from my heart my very soul even! I am truly broken in the wake of his death and every second is worse than the last it's a heavy pain that splinters into so many areas of who I am and I will never be the same!
One of the best modern drummers that was out there (may i say, even for extreme metal and death metal? Iowa was a bomb drummingwise for the modern death metal scene). RIP.
Joey is my drum hero since late 90's. Love from Philippines, Mr. Joey. By the way, I have a Promark signatured of yours. I'm using it on my practice pad so it will not be damaged if I use it on my kit..
Coming back and staying positive after what has happened to him for starters (i.e : losing one bandmate, getting an awful leg disease preventing you from drumming, being kicked out of your own successful band... need i say more ?) ? Not to mention the killer drumming he has done through the years...
Joey has been one of my biggest drumming influences when I was an early teen and I'm so happy to see him playing again after what he went through with his health. Great interview!
It makes me so sad seeing Joey talking about how he loved playing the drums and how is so gratetful and happy. He was the one who inspired me and I will never be able to describe how much I appreciate him and everything he has done for all of us and the music. I know he would be happy to know how much he means to me. Joey Jordison will never die for me. I know he is somewhere among all the music legends and I'm sure one day we will meet and i will thank him from the bottom of my heart standing in front of him. Rest in piece brother 🥁🤘
Respect.. Still listening to mate, feed, kill, repeat. Great album. I remember when I first listened to slipknot back in 99/2000,and thinking who is this guy abusing the drums, Jesus, whe plays pa caralho, I wonder who he is, probably one of the top, some time later, bingo, wish that you could stay some time more to give me and others the pure pleasure of listening to your skills, see you on the other side brother. Respect ,admiration, and some envy for not being able to play like you did.... R. I. P.
Im 55 and a drummer.... Im not really into his style of music , but maturity of what he is saying about how to start slowly and pay attention to the timing and not worry so much about speed and other technical aspects of playing the drums... I personally have more respect for drummers like Phil Rudd (AC/DC) then I have for your more technically proficient drummers.....dont get me wrong I grew up worshipping Neil Peart (among others) back in the day , but Joey pretty much said it all.....thank you...
IMHO Those 2 first albums had a fierce energy. Listen to Scissors closely and hear the way he does have timing. With so many instruments playing at the same time your brain can have a hard time focusing on one. If you get a chance listen to Skinny Puppy (Too Dark Park). Live Kevin the drummer was phenomenal. Their music is multi layered.
R.I.F Joey!
Damn...i love this dude. I have so much respect for him. I grew up with him and (as a drummer and musician my self) i believe he is an amazing and unique drummer and an awesome person! Keep up the good work brother!
