The Joffre Lakes hike is one of the most beautiful hikes in BC but expect it to be crowed. In this video I give you a complete tour and review of Joffre Lakes Provincial Park in Pemberton, BC. Go in the off season because this place gets crazy during the summer. I took this video in October just to avoid the crowds of people.

I really enjoy your videos on western Canada Doug. I have not been there for 15 years but would love to go back. Just not sure how to do it these days with two kids under 4 in tow!

I just did this hike yesterday (August 2019) and there is now a large overflow parking lot and no more parking on the freeway. The middle lake was by far the most beautiful! The upper lake was pretty too, but not many trees around it. We actually continued in to the hike all the way to the far side of the upper lake and then spent an extra three hours climbing to the glacier.
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug 5 лет назад
Oh hey thanks! I haven’t been up there this year but they badly needed that overflow parking. How was the climb to the glacier?
@me2525

@@youtubebydoug crazy intense. You need actual hiking gear to do it. We made the mistake of trying to do it in shorts, tshirts, and with one bottle of water between us. Haha Also it is quite steep and icy at the top. Pretty dangerous

haha okay good to know. but was it worth it? Did you make it close to the top?

Hey! I was looking into this hike. From the lower mainland area. I was wondering if you think this hike is family friendly? Is it steep/hard to go up and down the ascending parts or is it not too bad? I’m just worried the older people if they’ll be okay if they aren’t too used to hikes. Thanks!
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug 5 лет назад
Honestly I think this is a very family friendly hike. It has great views, lot of people of all ages on the trail and washroom at the third lake. Like I said the hardest part of the hike is when you make your way towards the middle like. For the most part it inclines then levels off and inclines again.

It might rain, the trail will probably be muddy but the glacier mountains should look fantastic

Wouldn't hurt to recommend quality footwear! Any off camber walking, muddy areas and possibly even snow, a good pair of hiking boots/shoes with a vibrum sole would be beneficial.

@NeoViny
@NeoViny 4 года назад
Well, "relativly easy" is a point of view that depends on personal abilitys! We've been there two weeks ago and while it was pretty easy for me, my wife got a panic attack during scrambling up the rocky sections up to upper lake. Alter all it was a difficult walk up to the rhird lake, but more due to stamina than to skill. It was about 800-900m of elevation and even that garibaldi lake was about 1000m of elevation and double on length (20km up and back), joffre lakes are more difficult because it's way more steeper. You have to be in a good condition otherwise it will be a bigger challenge... But it's worth the pain :-D
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug 4 года назад
Hey thanks for your input. I’ll try and keep that in mind next time I make a video but I’m glad it was worth the pain!
@NeoViny
@NeoViny 4 года назад
@@youtubebydoug oh yeah, it was absolutely worth the effort ;-) the time we reached the upper lake it was a bit foggy and that created a pretty cool unreal atmosphere... That was awesome and for us the reason that we loved the upper lake a bit more then the gorgeous middle lake!
@michelleh4717

it's not 800 up to the third lake, itll get to 800 if you go beyond for sure
@NeoViny

@@michelleh4717 Well, all the Tracking Appa aint that accurate. My app obviously delivered wrong data
@michelleh4717
@michelleh4717 2 года назад
@@NeoViny to clarify, the 800 elevation is for if you go up to the glacier where you see the three lakes at once. If you stop by third lake you're just at a 370!

I am going to be visiting on April 24th, 2023. What do you recommend I do if I only have 1 day to visit. Should I see Joffre Lakes or Garibaldi Lake? Which one is more difficult to do and is steeper. My understanding is that they are both a 3hr hike (one-way).
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug Год назад
they are both equally good. I think Garibaldi, if you're going to panorama ridge, will be steeper, longer and more difficult. At this time of year expect snow and the lakes to be frozen over.

Whats the best way to get there without a personal car ?
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug 5 лет назад
Without a personal car your best bet would be to rent a car for a day. You should be able to do it for under a $100. I've never used any of the car sharing companies but Vancouver has a lot of them. I think there's also a bus you can take if you google "Vancouver to Joffre lake bus" but I would recommend just renting a car, taking your time, check out some of the sights along the way and make a day out of it.

Hey Doug, we are going tomorrow we got a full day pass. We are coming from California. Can we go in the afternoon? We have a 19 old toddler so I doubt we can leave at 5 am and get there by 8 am. Can we hang out at whistler first then go to Joffre in the afternoon? Does it close at a certain time? I was thinking maybe 3/4 pm?
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug Год назад
Last time I was up there they don’t close the parking lot but it’s far from Vancouver and even Whistler. So you’ll be driving back in the dark. Try and get there as early as you can and if it’s late just hike to the second lake. There’s lot of other stops nearby you can make too
@ggpaul562
@ggpaul562 Год назад
@@youtubebydoug driving back in the dark is fine. I’m surprised it’s 8:37 pm right now (we just got to burnaby) and the sun is still up lol! I guess yeah… we’ll make it to whistler for a break so our daughter can rest and eat then after that head to Joffre.. So prolly afternoon, maybe get to the mid level and then leave around 5/6 Back to burnaby
@youtubebydoug
@youtubebydoug Год назад
okay we'll see how you feel when you're there. You're not going to save a lot of time by skipping the 3rd lake but when a toddler you don't want to be hiking down in the dark.
