Oh Boy! Whenever I look for Vancouver vlogs they were all so under informed, but this video is just what is needed for anyone planning to explore the lake! Thanks for all the info and shooting all 3 of your visits to explain us through and through. Means a lot!
Doug, thank you for sharing your hikes & spectacular views of Garibaldi Lake. You have my great respect for your determination to hike this park so many times ! I feel sorry for you but admire you for it. A word of caution about Black Task - I am glad you did not proceed further when the weather turned bad, very wise. Someone I know fell and injured badly, he was in a coma for a long time, he is still alive, but bed ridden till today. He is out of coma, a long road to recovery.
Hi Jacqueline. Sorry to hear about your friend. I still haven't reached the top of black tusk but I want too. It was kind of disappointing when the weather turned but seeing how i've never been there and the fact that it seemed like everyone else was heading in the opposite directing I decided to turn back. I think I was near the first ridge but considering how foggy it was I wouldn't have been able to see anything anyways. Thanks for sharing your story. Stay safe and take care
Exactly the video I was looking for! Heading out there next week w/ my girlfriend. Would you recommend Garibaldi over Joffre? I was thinking we'd go to Joffre until I saw this. Great video!
Great Video, you are a trooper bro for knocking out that hike back to back. The wife and I did Garabadli lake 2 yrs ago in MAY. Half way up we got into knee high snow for 3 hrs of the hike. Brutal, super nice down in the valley so we thought it would be the same up there...wrong answer. I highly recommend Joffre Lake if you have not done it yet, another picturesque hike!!
I did the hike again this year and I was surprised I was able to that back back but once you get passed the first 6km everything gets a little easier and the views get nicer. You still hiked to the top even though you were unprepared for the snow!? You two are the real champs :P
Took us close to 7 hours doing the hike to Garibaldi but definitely rewarding once we got to see the lake. Great vlog. Don’t stop making videos. All the best!😀
Love this video so much! Thank you for all the tips and for showing this spot three times. My friends and I are planning a trip to BC and we have watched a few of your videos. They are so helpful and informative! Thanks so much :)
10:17 - "This pond right here looks like it's going right over the cliff of the mountain" *Face covers all of pond* LMAO I love your videos man keep it up, it really helped me plan my BC Hikes!
Congrats. Hiking Garibaldi or going to Whistler? I think there's some helicopter tours you can do. Never done it but I'm pretty sure they fly over Garibaldi
we usually camp at Garibaldi Lake, and day trip to the base of Black Tusk, Pammorama Ridge (j/k), and the Opal Cone, volcanic area that looks like your on the moon! You can also do a thru hike fromthe Checkamus Lake trail side, if u have someone or something to drop u off & pick u up
So beautiful. Question, do we need to carry bear spray when we are go there. Please share what you suggest. We are planning to explore this beautiful area in this summer.
Second time coming to BC and planning to go end of August of this year along with my girlfriend and some of my friends, honestly been watching all your videos and it definitely helped me a lot on planning our itinerary! There were lots of places you covered that I wished I discovered sooner! Hope to see more videos!
RU-vid By Doug we’re originally from Saskatoon and I made an itinerary of 2 days in kelowna, 3 days in whistler and 4 days in vancouver with plenty of activities set such as water rafting, jet ski, and so. We followed your guide and have added panorama ridge and tunnel bluffs hike to our itinerary as well 🥳 really hoping it all goes well considering COVID-19.
Lol yeah it was my first time hiking garibaldi and it was the middle of summer so I was dying to jump into the lake. Turns out I was a little to excited haha
@@youtubebydoug did you do the Black tusk in the meantime? it seems to be a very challenging climb for the more experienced to reach the summit. Garibaldi was on of my favorite Spots during the 3 1/2 week roundtrip. Even that most of the hike is a bit boring, or at least "unspectacular"... But The Barriere viewpoint is absolutely awesome and breathtaking
Did you do Black tusk? I could be wrong but I think there's two parts to it.. You hike to the base but you can go "off trail" and actually hike up to the tusk. This was the only time I attempted it and by the time I got to the base the fog got really thick. I could only see a meter or 2 in front of me. Had lunch but the fog was still there so I decided to hike back down. Sounds like a nice trip. Where are you from anyways?
@@youtubebydoug I just saw some Videos about the hikes up and they all look challenging... Seems like a lot of people do this unprepared compared to the effort that this climb demands. I saw some asian guys on youtube who took the wrong way up and that was scary as hell. I wonder why Parks Canada didnt declare this Part as an alpine Route, well, at least we aint saw such a Note at the way points up... We have been to lake o hara and made the yukness ledges alpine Route. That was absolutely awesome and was pretty easy for me (not for my wife ^^) but the Black tusk looks way more challenging. I am from germany by the way :-)
Yeah there’s a lot of people that take on hikes unprepared. You can probably get away with it on garbaldi during the summer because there’s just enough people up there but once that fog rolled in I tried waiting it out and had to bail. I’ll probably try again next summer. Oh nice so why did you decide on visiting Vancouver?
Hi Doug! Two questions: 1) if we start at 5am, can we do Panorama Ridge and be back by 9pm? We have done easy to moderate hikes in the past and are in ok-ish shape 2) is there a route back from Panorama Ridge that would allow us to see Garibaldi Lake on the way back to the parking lot? If not, do you think it's a big loss? Would you rather we see the lake and miss Panorama ridge? Considering we would have seen some lakes in Jasper and Banff before we reach Whister. Would this lake be similar-ish to those ones? We only have a day in Whistler so we know we can't cram too much into it! Your advice will be SUPER helpful and much appreciated! Thanks for the awesome videos!
Hi there! If you start at 5am and not planning on be back until 9pm you can easily do all 3 trails. Panorama Ridge, Black Tusk and Garibaldi Lake. I can't remember how long each trail took me but its in the video. All the trails are well travelled in the summer and every intersections is mapped out though out the park. Garibaldi Lake is similar to a lot of lakes in Banff and Jasper but detouring to see it will likely only add an 1-2 hours to your day depending on how long you stay there.
@@youtubebydoug Thank you so much for the detailed response, Doug. Super helpful! From your last sentence, I'm assuming there isn't a way back from Panorama Ridge to the parking that would allow us to see the lake, right? We would have to make the extra time to go in that direction from the intersection, correct? Also: Would you recommend we go back from Whistler to Vancouver via the Sea to Sky highway? Are there any absolutely must-see points on that route? I've heard it can be pretty busy in the summer and we don't want to spend too much time on the road. We're coming from Toronto for the first time so we have very limited days and way too much to do!
Stunning, beautiful! I missed the trip to the lake with friends last week, but definitely will go sometime next year, if not this month. Thanks for sharing!
Love the video man! I'll be in Canada next month and want to do the Garibaldi Lake hike (Panorama) thanks to you! I will bring a 15kg tent, will this be doable to take with me during the whole hike?
Hey brother. I was planning on hiking from the parking lot to garibaldi and then make the way to Panaroma ridge. And then all the way back down. Is that possible in one day if i start at 6 AM. Without using a flashlight
I mentioned it in the video but I can't off the top of my head remember how long it took me. It's a all day hike if you want to do it in one day and you're not camping at garibaldi. I would give yourself at least 10-12 hours to hike, enjoy the view and get back down.
Yeah I was pretty determined that week hahah. There might be snow up there. I'm sure there's still a few people hiking Garibaldi just be prepaid, it'll be wet, raining and cold. Where are you coming from anyways?
To be honest, the most difficult part is to pass the first 6.5 (my tracker showed 7) km via winding serpentine of trail BEFORE the first lake. I was with kids, and we couldn't make it.
Hi I love your videos! How did your feet feel towards the end of the Panorama Ridge hike? I’ve walked 24 km in one day before, but I cannot imagine hiking 30!
the two campsites pull water from garibaldi lake or a nearby creek. it’s unfiltered water and there’s warning signs not to drink from there. That being said there are several creeks and running water throughout the hike. it’s ice cold glacier water and that’s where I and a majority of people doing the hike refill their water. obviously it’s your call if you want to take the risk
hey sweet. how did you find my videos?? there’s bears in the area but its a crowded hike in the summer so if you’re prepared you shouldn’t worry to much about it
I would love to potentially backpack this area, but am concerned about how busy it may be with all the day hikers. Did it feel overwhelming with too many people at the top?
It's popular a trail but it's far from the city. June to Augest it's busy (as is basically ever trail, especially over the weekends) but nothing crazy. If you want to avoid people don't go July through Augest, go during the weekdays, its pretty isolated after Labor day, or if you go during a random weekday in May
any good question. from what I remember (haven’t been this year) I think it’s about 5 hours. plus you’ll probably want to spend some time up there. it’s a half a day thing, full day of you wanna do panorama ridge or go further up
I did. If you go during the spring/summer you can do garibaldi lake and panorama ridge in a single day. If you go now, during winter I’m not sure how long it would take... bring snowshoes though and get there early.
Round trip? It sort of depends on how fast you go, your fitness level and the weather. It took me 11 hours round trip but I took my time, the weather took at least 30 minutes for the fog to move out of the way so you could get those views of the lake (others waited over 2 hours) and I spent at least a hour at the top. You could definitely do it quicker if you wanted.
RU-vid By Doug thank you for the reply. I dunno if we can still catch the bus if we proceed to panoramic view. Thanks for the reply! Will be doing this on September 1st 😊 hopefully the weather will be good.
You know what I think I did the panorama hike in 10 hours but I probably could have finished it in 7-8 hours if I rushed and I dent have to wait for the fog to move. I’m assuming you’ll get there around 9am. So you could definitely do it. Let me know how it goes!
The day passes started recently because they want people to social distance.. if they are sold out there are other parks you can go too. Check out Joffre lake (no day passes needed there).
i've actually never camped up there but check on the bc parks website. I know a lot of people just park at the walmart in squamish or camp up some service roads in the area.
