@@jrsmith1998 theres a difference. He whopped his children when the need arose. He wsnt a drunk, wife beater or a child abuser. But it was a different era. The environment they lived in. He thought that was the way to discipline his boys.
@@jessiejames7492 No it wasn't. Penny was just a kid character. After the child abuse segments Janet Jackson's character Penny wasn't prevalent in any future episodes.
Good Times was never the same after they killed off James. One of the best actors I have seen in my lifetime. Thank you John Amos for being a stand up person and being one of the best TV dads ever.
@Angel Johnson, imagine 30 minutes of "Dynomite." That's what you would've had with no John Amos on the show. There were plenty of episodes where James was the one who saved JJ's bacon.

Both women and men have to be very selective in child rearing! Is it 💯 proof always? The partners they choose! You can't make a person something! When they are not that kind of material! Mr. Amos is so gracious. Every interview he does, he gives kudos to other actors he's worked with. He truly is appreciative and grateful for what others bring to the table.
John Amos as James Evans Sr was no joke!! Great Father Figure!! The episode when JJ got shot was very dramatic!! He was willing to give his life for his Son. If we had more fathers like James Sr these days we would not have all this Gang Life style these people want to live!
And don't forget that he was also in Disney's "The World's Greatest Athlete", and before that, he was in a McDonald's commercial which aired I think in 1970.

Angel Johnson, there wouldn’t have been a “Good Times” show if not for Florida being on “Maude”. Esther Rolle was instrumental in getting Amos on the show: the producers wanted Florida to be a single mother, but Rolle said unless Florida had a husband, she wouldn’t do the show.
James Amos is the best man ever .I still love to watch them and been watching. Them all my life. Especially when he tells his oldest son j j junior to shut up and that is when I start laughing .my butt off because. He says the dumb s thing s sometimes. On the air and I have been a good t.v fan and host and still is watching. Them I have been watching. Them since I was 17 years old good time .s is the best t.v show ever they are the best ever ❤
A strong Father hands are sometimes different from his heart of Love! A good Father knows what's out there in the streets! The bad and evil influences that may destroy his family! As a Father whether they want you in their business or not! Kids love you or hate you! The payback they have kids of their own! Now they rehearse the script to their kids! Becoming their Parents! If you're Parents look wore and tired! Guess who caused that? Next time you look in the mirror! When a Parent become out dated to their kids! The challenge draws a line. Then the battle begins! In Most cases! This is why I pray for my kids! You can't be with them 24/7! You definitely need Divine intervention!! God Speed!!
God! I've LOVED this great man ever since I was 6 years old when I first saw him on re-runs of _Good Times_ ; having grown up in a _single parent_ household, I always imagined " _James_ " as being the type of father I would have liked to have had. Still do. He greatly impacted my life as a young child, and set the standard for the type of man I would like as a husband + a father ( _someday_ ). LOVE LOVE LOVE this man so much, I'm so happy he is now doing what he's always wanted to do, and btw : he's still as handsome as ever!

I Love you Mr. James Amos, I did have a good father figure growing up, but you always made me proud to know their was black men like you in this world! I didn't t then and I don't still like that Jimmy Walker. They really messed his character up. He has no substance for a positive motivation on the young... And they would not focus on Michael cause he was a smart pants...
It was a great episode, but I’d had ironed it out in one way. I’d had Florida get shot instead of JJ. You could have had JJ find an anger no one knew he had, James still could do the same in court that he did, and Florida’s forgiveness would have resonated even more. Plus you could have done something with Michael, who was the militant midget. It could have been the start of his transition as a teenager instead of him going into next year like nothing happened. What if he got so pissed at his community that it changed him?
Angel Johnson can you stop saying the same thing on every comment? Not everyone thinks they made the show. Some actually do believe it was John Amos who made it great.everyone has a different opinion
