John Astin performs "Querida Mia" on the ABC-TV SHIVAREE music variety show (~1965-1966).
John is currently Theatre Program Director and Homewood Professor of the Arts at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Television viewers quickly recognize him from his character role as Gomez Addams in "The Addams Family", a man who is passionately in love with his wife, often referring to her in Spanish as "Querida" and "Cara Mia".

John was following in the footsteps of "Addams Family" cast member Ted Cassidy when he issued a single on Capitol Records titled "The Lurch." John's song sounds as campy as Adam West's single "Miranda" issued a few months later. None of these TV-show based singles charted on the Billboard charts. Today, all three singles are highly sought-after collectors items. John is the last surviving cast member of the original 1960's "Addams Family" at 93 years old.

Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing information about John's collectible single on Capitol as well as the other two TV-show based singles, also collectible. Hoping Mr. Astin is well and still enjoying theatre. I met him a couple of times on the JHU Homewood campus when he was directing plays at the University.

@@BringBackMyYesterdaybyDee John's single was originally issued in 1965 on United Artists Records. However, since U-A was bought out coincidentally by Capitol/EMI in 1979, John's song is owned by Capitol Records today. I'm not sure if Capitol ever issued it on any CD, though. Ted Cassidy's Lurch record and Adam West's "Miranda " single have both been reissued on CD's, even though the original master tape to "Miranda" and it's flip side "You Only See Her" were probably destroyed in the 2008 Universal/MCA vault fire, since MCA, later Universal/UME music had bought out 20th Century Fox Records from Russ Regan in 1980. John's single is very rare and didn't sell too well when it was originally issued. It sold so poorly that I'm not certain that U-A pressed it beyond white label promotional pressings. If Capitol, who bought out U-A didn't reissue it, it is indeed a very rare collectible among actors and TV personalities that wanted to sing , a very common trend in the 50's-80's.
