She made a Barbara Cook tribute in 2017 and sang beautifully some songs she introduced iike Till there was you Dear Friend and Will he like me.Its a pity that she prefers to sing belter.
Fun fact: John was Simon Bowman’s alternate in Miss Saigon from September 1990 to March 1991, so he actually got to play Chris opposite to Lea’s Kim during her final four months with the show in London (from Sept-Dec 1990).
the two of them have lovely and light voices! a problem i have with performers covering tonight is they don't have the lightness of voice-- tony and maria are very young people with young voices, and should sound like so! i'm not a face of light voices but this is a solid exception
How the hell did I not know that this video existed before!!???? I absolutely love both of these people!!! And two of my favourite characters: Captain Jack and Éponine :)
I've been listening to the Jim Bryant and Marni Nixon version, then this popped up in my recommended list and I was like "Captain Jack in West Side Story!!!"
@hsupeiwei 21 Jun 2005 Tony Award winner Lea Salonga and Sunset Boulevard's John Barrowman will take part in an upcoming tribute to the music of Leonard Bernstein in Germany. The Munich concert, A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein, will be held July 2 at the Klassik Am Odeonsplatz. The 9 PM performance will feature Barrowman and Salonga in a suite of songs from West Side Story with Barrowman singing the role of Tony and Salonga the role of Maria
@H1delta thank you for your explaination. actually, i am a chinese; so, i am not good at English and other languages at all. and at first, i don't know exactly what that language is; therefore, it's a little hard for me to use Yahoo Babelfish to translate. i am not impatient, just thinking now that she/he could read my question, maybe she can reply in the same language. maybe i should pay more attention to my diction. also, thank you for reminding me of this. lea is really amazing in this video!
ZidaneWarner hi there, I was playing in the pit when JB joined Saigon....OMG the lift in energy and production values was incredible! And it was wonderful before then......
@AnnieVesper wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lea is too amazing to believe! now that she is such a great soprano, why she seldom sings those songs? i don't know she is so great in this area!!!
Sadly, they've muted it, but I cannot find out WHERE one is supposed to listen to (even buy) this recording! (I do wish when they mute, etc., they would post such info)
@hsupeiwei Yeah. It's really Lea. And i hear the voice IS like Lea ) It's cool, fans always can find something new about their idols :) I searched this song for a long time. I love John and respect Lea =) They sound together very well!
The toughest part of singing a duet with Les Salonga is not being suffocated by that incomparable voice. Of course, as in everything else, she sings the role of Maria better than anyone possibly could. Proud possessor of the greatest gift ever endowed on a female artist. Power, clarity, perfect pitch. Combine that with an interpretive feel for a song unmatched in theatrical history. Or in pop music history as well. How anyone can listen to THAT voice and not realize she is a once in a century genius is beyond me. Having performed both Eponine and Fantine flawlessly in Les Mis. Winning the Olivier for Miss Saigon. Singer of every song imaginable better than anyone else. This is the cold hard fact. Were Lea Salonga white instead of Asian descent, she would have performed ten times more roles than she already has. She also would be regarded by consensus for what she already is. The greatest female singer EVER. Case closed. No logical argument.
@hsupeiwei My apologies. I thought you were being critical. That's what I get for thinking. Your diction is quite good. Truth be told, I don't speak Tagalog all that well. It's been a while since I've had to speak the language. Even my mom, may she rest in peace, spoke to me in English when we first moved to America. I wish I could read & write Chinese as well as you do English. Peace.
