I can't say whether this cover is better or worse than the original. However, I can state with confidence that if Manchester was a male, this is how the song would turn out. His phrasing, the emphasis, the times he used vibrato and the octave he stayed in throughout the song is identical to the original singer. This is the most accurate cover to Don't Cry Out Loud I've seen. It's phenomenal.
I love John Barrowman. John and Scott, I would love to hear you perform with Jim Brickman sometime! The blend of your talents would be phenomenal. Always love hearing you sing.
John is gorgeous, sexy, magnificent voice, a remarkable man, warm, loving and a fabulous sense of humour. Close to perfection, maybe perfect. Have had a crush on you and don't believe the negative remarks made about you. You're too nice a man, son and husband.
John.Barrowman... thanks to you and your rendition of this song i am finally able to put into words what i could not before. You good sir are a very talented and wonderful singer with a great voice and remarkable technique... BUT... there is a downside to your ability. You have managed to suck the life and soul directly out of this song with zero emotional attachment... despite the little intro before singing the song. If this song were represented as a moist sponge sitting in the middle of a stream in the amazon... you sir have managed to damn the flow of that water turning everything into a barren wasteland. The sponge now dried up and brittle simply chips away at the slightest touch of the wind, and turned to dust blown away by the breeze. That dust has found its way to my eyes and it burns as i shed a tear because of what you have managed to do such a wonderful song.
Better than 30 years ago I first heard this song, sung by Peter Allen, at a small bar in Georgetown (Washington DC). It was an ear worm for weeks and lead to many more sessions when Peter was in town. John's rendition is good, but doesn't quite convey the emotion of Peter Allen's original.
