And if subpoenaed he would have challenged it in court. 2. Negotiated a million-dollar book deal -- for which no subpoena was necessary. Those who swore the oath to protect and defend the Constitution -- as did Bolton -- owe allegiance to the Constitution, not to a person, and not to the dollar bill. And if anyone has held himself out more than just about anyone else as being a so-called "patriot" it is Bolton.

@@farzana6676 There is some logic to that idea. Does it seem to get more complicated though when we learn that the United States and the UK backed a violent coup of the legitimate Ukranian government in 2014. Among other things, the US and UK didn't like that the legitimate government of the Ukraine accepted a loan package form Russia instead of from the west. Does it change anything that the US and Nato on several counts broke the agreement that Reagan and Gorbachov made at the time the Berlin Wall was coming down that NATO would not expand past the reunified border of Germany? Does it change anything that the west had active bio labs in the Ukraine? How would we feel if China had biolabs in the northern Mexican states. How would we feel if Mexico and Canada joined an alliance with Russia and China that meant that this new alliance could effectively station troops and even atomic weapons close to our border? The Ukraine was moving closer and closer to joining NATO. The western propaganda machine relentlessly paints Putin and Russia as our greatest threat and starts a financial war with Russia - so It seems like the US openly provoked Russia until Putin probably felt backed against the wall. He purportedly asked many times for peace talks to resolve these issues and the west ignored him. There is much more. The US and NATO could have easily stopped the Russian invasion if we weren't acting so belligerently and aggressively and just allowed the Ukraine to be a buffer state between Russia and Nato. We in essence created this war, not Putin.

Hawks like him will take advantage of the benefit of hindsight and said the war would have been prevented and laid the blame on a weak US President. If it really had been that NATO and the US acted more aggressively, it would have given a convenient justification for Putin to wage this invasion, on the pretence that he's only stopping NATO 'expansion'. Either way, Bolton and hawks like him will say he's right and the Administration had messed it up. With all the political infighting and wrangling within US, other nations' estimate of the US will only diminish (and it already has, with the abysmal withdrawal from Afghanistan) .
