This is the first song my Robin danced to. He considered this our song. I had him for 15yrs and my heart is still shattered he's gone. My world forever ❤️
All of you are saying your ages and I'm here like, "guess I'm the only 16 year old with good music taste...and the only one who knows this movie...." So sad I'm the only person my age who can vibe with you all. I love this song and movie a lot
Not to compare ages, but I've know this since I was 14, and that was back I'm 2017.. my grandmother said to me "here, go put this DVD in, I wanna show you a good movie I grew up watching" and then after pressing play, the opening to On The Dark Side started playing and I was pretty hooked already - then after awhile it showed Wordman going to work, he was a teacher.. and Wild Summer Nights briefly plays on the radio - after awhile, the end of the bell rings, he sits back in his chair, reminisces, then Runaway by Del Shannon starts playing, got me hooked more - then once the band enters Tony Marts, Sal introduces them; "yea, tell Tony Eddie and the Cruisers are here" then Runaround Sue kicks in, and I thought the music couldn't get any better - cut to a little later in the film, and Boardwalk Angel starts to play, it shows Doc and Wordman in his car - I'll skip the terrible cover by Sal and the Cruisers and instead, mention the first attempt of On The Dark Side, they're on the balcony, but hearing that song being constructed, sure it's a 3 chord song, but it's beautifully made lol - then, we got to the melody of both Wild Summer Nights and Tender Years, I've never heard my house get so quiet when Tender Years came on - skip a few scenes and they're at Spring Madness; the opening speech thingy to Down On My Knees got me pretty hyped, then it sorta carried over, by sorta, I mean it kinda fell off because I laughed when he mocked "Toby Tyler" anyways, then the bass and drums kick in going into Hang Up My Rock n Roll Shoes - man I've never seen my grandma get up and dance so fast in my life lol - then...Wendell dies :( - skip a few scenes, we hear Season In Hell... things started to get dark, that one segment of the song changed the tone of the film almost instantly - Eddie takes Joanne to Palace Depression; yes it is a real place - Eddie's car goes off the bridge on a cold March morning - Joanne starts going crazy - someone (possibly Eddie?) is calling Joanne's place, playing Tender Years on the phone, then hangs up - Frank (Wordman) waits afar, to see who the real culprit is - and boom, a twist (and a sad one, was kinda hoping it was Eddie :( - ) it was actually their manager, Doc Robbins!! (Which then killed off the motive that Eddie was alive) Frank confronts him, and asks why the whole charade, why go through all this trouble and torment - "I want the tapes" is all he could muster up??? - Joanne gives in and gives him the tapes, Doc gives a pretty damn good speech, then drives off, Joanne and Frank go back inside, and On the Dark Side slowly fades in, the reporter talks, and Season In Hell fades in - it cuts to outside, showing people watching the documentary of Eddie Wilson, the camera slowly pans in towards the TV's, then the screens go black and boom! It's Eddie, sporting a fully grown beard.. then the awesome film version of the reprise plays (we sat through the credits and waited til the MGM logo came up) - that was one of the biggest mind f*cks I've ever had, and also I was introduced to one of the best movies ever made.. I'm about to be 21 now, and I still remember that evening clear as a bell.. so, you are not alone in this world, there are some few people that listen to this soundtrack :)) sorry for the extra long paragraph if you chose to read through all that
My favorite song in the movie although you never hear it in it's entitety. The imagery is beautiful. This song always makes me cry. Just an incurable romantic.
My favorite movie from my childhood. Grew up in New Jersey. Love the shore. Wanted to be Eddie. Love the music. Memories of my cousin and me reenacting the film. Memories of Jersey now that I left... awesome song
When I bought my first car, a 1986 cutlass supreme. It had a kenwood CD deck in there this CD was in there. Played the shit out of this CD. I was 16 I’m 35 now and in a tight situation
I turn 70 this year, still so love this song. This is the ULTIMATE Jersey song. Forget Born to Run, I smell the shore and the boards, and the beach, food, in this music. Tune it up weekly.
