@@michaelwalker5102 I agree but do think piano at end feels same. I still remember the scene in the movie with the actor playing that part. Im 47yrs old so i was like very little and still remember it.
Not on my song list-- it is neither underrated nor underappreciated-- I listen to it quite frequently-- the WHOLE album is awesome!! One of the most memorable and NEVER forgotten. I have the soundtrack.
My mom passed back in March and this was her favorite song. We send her off while we played this song. One of those songs that calms you down and think of life...RIP MAMA.
People wrongfully compared them to Bruce Springsteen, saying that they were trying to copy him. This guy (John Cafferty) had a far greater voice, imho! He sang on the Rocky IV soundtrack 'Heart's on Fire.'
I watched Eddie and the cruisers about a million times .. not so much because of the storyline but because I loved the music.. then i bought the album ❤
Check out the music from Eddie and the cruisers 2 Eddie Lives. Music is just as good.. never got any air play. Movie is also good. I think you will like the sequel
Someone used to play this loud out their window on Friday afternoons in a UW-Madison neighborhood back in the 80''s. Even then we knew...brings fricken tears to my eyes.
One of the best rock 'n roll saxes ever! These guys rock. My wife calls this "beach music" and she's always hounding me to go to the beach when she hears this. One of the best sounding "oldies" bands of all times.
Beach music or Carolina Beach music originated at Myrtle Beach and Folly Beach in the late 1950's. It is basic R&B taken to the next level. Being from Charleston, SC I'm just a little bit biased about my beach music....haha.
I watched Eddie and the cruiser as a kid and for the longest time I thought they were a real band. I still see Michael Paré singing these songs. John Cafferty and the beaver brown band love them❤
Saw them live last night at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Still every bit as good as they were almost 40 years ago. A real treat. Catch ‘em if you can.
John is where springsteen started sticking his jaw foreword and started doing the shoulder shake , it looks natural when John does it , kinda stupid looking when bruce over-does-it
This song reminds of a more innocent time in our lives...the excitement of early Rock N Roll, the dances, the crusin' down the main drag, the slumber parties and sneaking out late to be with friends...love those days and those times. Thanks to you John for this song.
Saw them in concert back in 88. This was the last song. The lead singer told the audience that if they believed in themselves that they would go far or something to that effect. But it meant alot to me as a person. Then they played this song and it was very emotional, to me at least.
I don't care who you are you listen to this song it will make you think of past moments and forgotten times that you've had and maybe even times that you're going to have ..truly a Emotional roller coaster.
In my honest opinion this has to be a underrated song and doesn't get due credit, does that make sense to anyone? I am 54 and have listened to a lot of music over the decades, it just has a pure and simple sound, great voice by John, not overdone in any way, just a glorious song.
It is fantastic it comes on and I find myself lost in jr high school again and the music just takes me away and the next thing you know its hours later
I do not think that any other song, that has ever ever existed, or ever will exist, can satisfy my feelings the way that tender years always has, and always will
Tremendous songwriting. Used to see these guys at the Jersey Shore late 70's, early 80's. THE best bar band I've ever seen. They'd get the place rockin'...everyone involved...and when the night was over you'd leave with your soul renewed! They were that great.
The Fastlane Shows from 79-81 were some of the best live gigs I've ever seen. They played most every holiday weekends. Special guests that joined them included Joe Jackson, Bruce, Gary Tallent, Mad Dog Lopez, Southside, LaBamba, Kevin Kavanagh.
This was put on the Eddie and the Cruisers soundtrack, this guy and his band called John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. They did all the songs on and that soundtrack, if you look up Eddie and the Cruisers, you'll see the whole soundtrack, that whole soundtrack, and movie was great, and part of my childhood growing up in the 80s, born in 78. I'm a metal head, but I like good rock bands no matter what. These guys were great. They should have been bigger than they were.
This song holds a few deep seeded memories for me beyond just the movie. Every time I hear it, I still cry to this day thinking about how much the memories mean to me. Thank you John
I never get tired of hearing this, no matter how many years have come and gone. I had the pleasure of sharing a stage with John and his band and ended up befriending his sax player 'Tunes', best damn sax player I ever met but above all, an amazing human being. I melt every time I hear his solo, such a talent. How lucky was I? Love You Guys, Much Respect, Love, Mama Dee
Still listening in April 2022!! This song never gets old. I love John Cafferty and the beaver brown band! What an awesome and huge catalog of great songs they have. Truly talented!
This is a long-standing favorite of mine. I had the DJ play it while my wife and I danced to it at our youngest daughter;s recent wedding. The sax is really special.
The sad thing is, they cut off the ending of this video. I saw it on MTV back in the day, and at the end, the piano player trails off, then takes the cigarette out of his mouth and blows a cloud of smoke out. That one gesture manages to capture all the nostalgia, regret over lost youth and innocence, the bittersweet feeling of an adult looking back on youth that this song is all about.
I was watching the video, and all of a sudden a memory came rushing back of having seen that scene you described. I used to catch this song all the time from the movie until I saw it on VH1 for the first time so many years later. I DO remember what you described! Awesome! Thanks for bringing that back! Love and music, bro! Find a sweet lady for the beach!
Played some saxophone in gradeschool and middle school. This solo was the dream for me. To be able to play like that let alone write it would have been the crowing achievement.
John,, I owe you an apology,😟, you and the band played for us all night at our senior class trip to geauga lake amusement park,, I wish I could go back soo much. I went to school with the most spoiled brats of privilege in country. The graduation class of Port Clinton oh, 1989. I am sorry ,, so regret not trying to hang with you guys. I had mabey 2 or 3 friends in the whole class. We always rocked, and just wish I would have taken the time to hang
I have always loved this band. They’re originally from my state of Rhode Island. When I graduated high school in 1977, they played at our Senior Banquet.
The vocals and the music come together to carry you away on your own fond memories of your personal Tender Years. John's voice and the band's music were the Perfect Storm of perfection.
Can’t hear this song without having so many great memories flash through my mind. Can’t hear it without dancing to it !!! Forever a great song ! ❤️👍👏👏👏🙏
