Summer Rental is a 1985 American comedy film directed by Carl Reiner and starring John Candy and Richard Crenna. The film's screenplay was written by Mark Reisman and Jeremy Stevens. An original music score was composed for the film by Alan Silvestri. The film was released on August 9, 1985, by Paramount Pictures.
Filming took around nine weeks, from March 18 to May 15, 1985, with principal photography starting in St. Petersburg and St. Pete Beach, Florida, on March 18 for seven weeks before moving to Atlanta.

John Candy was my childhood. Watching his movies as a kid growing up left so many sentimental memories. He was one of my favorites then and still is today. His presence made everything better especially on a bad day. R.I.P John! Thank you for all you have given us.

Thanks for this location Scott. John Candy should always be remembered as one of the greatest comedian of our time. Growing up with him throughout my childhood until his untimely death in the early 90s will always be remembered by me personally. Well done buddy. 👍

I've been a subscriber for some time. Love your videos. I wish I had known you were doing this shoot, I could have added insight into filming locations. As a young 21 year old living on Indian Rocks Beach, I was an extra in this movie. As a result of a neighbor friend being friends with Carl Reiner, I managed to be an extra and appeared in several scenes. I was actually in somewhat long scene with John and his daughter playing 2 man beach olleyball, as well as a funny sence at a daycare center on St. Pete Beach, but those were cut. The icing on the cake was being invited to dinner with Carl Reiner, John, my neighbor and Richard Crenna. John was a really sweet and humble guy and the experience was unforgettable. Excellent job!

Thanks for covering this one. It’s a classic to me. I watched it so many times on tv. The scene where the guys turn their kitchen into a dinner is so funny and the kid picking his nose by the window. The guy belching and pointing to the way to the beach. Construction going on next to their rental is my kind of luck.

I love John Candy, fun fact when I was working and living in LA they filmed part of the highway sean of trains planes and automobiles on highway 14 and I was working for red cross drawing blood in Lancaster that day, and they had the road tied up forever. Needless to say we were all angry about being late getting home. But have to say, that was one of my favorite movies.

Right on great vlog I stayed at condo 15000 Maderia Beach. That bridge at John's Pass is massive. Salty Rim is a great restaurant over there by the pier.
