Never having read the books or seen The Princess of Mars, this movie was great. I liked the dialog, character interaction, plot, sub plots, special effects, clean language, overall great movie. Those of you who said this was not a good movie, well, your loss.
Honestly, I never understood the hate for this film. I personally thought it was good. This was once upon a time when there was little to no WOKE in movies yet as well.
I don't care that this movie bombed at the box office , I am very happy they made it because I think it is a wonderful and beautiful movie. I loved every minute of it, I wish it had not failed so we could see a John Carter 2. On the strength of this movie I don't think we will see a John Carter 2, which is sad because this movie looks good had a good story and was very well acted. It was just brilliant and I cannot see why it bombed but it's sad for such a great film not to have a sequel. A truly wonderfully filmed movie
It shows you that when the powers that be don’t want you to succeed, they can make anything fail, and when they want something to do good, they can make trash like Wakanda Forever have great numbers
Edgar Rice Burrows wrote a whole series of the novels (11 of them) so, if you liked the movie, you might really like the novels. There is a lot to the story, that the movie only touches on.
I love this movie! I have watched it several times over the years. Good acting and great special effects and a good story line. I was surprised to learn that it didn't do very well at the box office.
I saw it in the theater, and I enjoyed it very much. People listen too much to movie critics in order to make up their mind. Movie critics are part of paid advertisement imo.
If you read the book, "John Carter and the Gods of Holywood" you'll realize that the studio *had no idea what sort of movie they had just made* or what to do with it. Essentially, they mis-marketed & under-promoted the movie, thereby f&$!ing John Carter at the box office. It was a crime.😢
It wasn't the reviews that cancelled it, it was the fact Disney did not want John Carter competing with the MCU. John Carter is an expanse of books, and it would have been a lot of movies if they carried on with it, more than Harry Potter maybe from my understanding. Avengers was a huge hit, and John Carter released in the same year, 2012, and it just didn't hit the mark like Avengers did. So Disney decided to make sure to put more money into the MCU, and cancelled John Carter's sequels.
@@superblahman Nah, it wasn't the MCU that did it either. Disney decided to do a Mars franchise when the original deal with LucasFilm fell through. They knew that a multi-film sci-fi franchise would compete with Star Wars. Right about the time "John Carter" was in post, the LucasFilm deal went through again. Since they were banking on Star Wars, they wanted to drop the Mars movies. Instead of just cancelling the release & having to soak it, they surreptitiously sabotaged the marketing for it... that way when it bombed financially, they could write it off as a loss.
I like how the movie balance violence and gore. When i discovered that Disney produced it i was a little surprised. Underrated Movie btw, i'm sad it flopped
As an ERB fan since my early teens I loved the John Carter novels. Sorry the film didn't turn into the franchise Disney wanted but at least they did it right. No movie can ever replicate the books exactly but this one was pretty close to the mark.
I have read every ERB book I laid my hands on, many of them twice. Absolutely captivating author. When I was bored at school and was not paying attention in class... I was thinking of those books. It is a shame they have not continued the movies
@@keith4826 my story too. I was bored at school, hanging out in the library. Started reading Tarzan at the Earths Core. I was an ERB fan by the end of the book.
I am Egyptian, I live in a country where an unjust, brutal and authoritarian military coup has taken place, based on killing and imprisoning the people just for objecting to the ruling, and they do not recognize the principle of opinion and freedom of expression. And social justice.. save a miserable person
It won’t be the same because Disney would just make him a women and have the movie bad guys be all straight people and anyone who doesn’t support The far left is a nazi
Was always pissed at the inconsistency in showing his strength. If he had the strength to jump like 500 feet in the air and live on landing then when he hit someone with a sword every hit would be a dismemberment. Even when it dulled the hit would still cause massive wounds. Also those iron chains....NONE of them would be able to hold him at that thickness.
Never understood the criticism. The whole point movies exist is to entertain and this movie did a great job of that. I don’t think everything has to be Oscar worthy. Honestly, sometimes I like B movies so much because they don’t take themselves too seriously
John Carter - Best Moments.....should have played the whole movie!!😅 This is a great movie, and it deserves a sequel. Disney did this movie dirty when they cut the marketing budget (a few months before the opening, I think 🤔). I believe they changed the title or the logo before the opening also.
Edgar Rice Burroughs was such a great author, I will never stop rereading his work. This was a good movie I really enjoyed it, but as always, the book is better.
@@palacespot2 i think they exaggerate a little. I could jump like 4 feet in the air on mars though it would be cool. he can jump like the Hulk in the movie.
Yes, and it (and the other 10 books in the series) was written by Edgar Rice Burrows, you know, the character in the movie who is reading the chronicle? They were written between 1911 and … 1948 I believe.
Although critics seem to think otherwise, I really liked this movie. Nonetheless, I always wait for those martians to start dancing to "Dame Tu Cosita"...
I watched John Carter several times and I don't get it. It is so much better than the reviews or the amount of money it made. I feel it got a bad review and people just didn't want to see it. Which was their mistake! I didn't make the same mistake and I liked it alot.
