My Wife of 40 years died January 23, 2022, I listened to this song as an OTR Trucker when we Married, along with many other Country songs, she loved this one, all I have now is her memories, and, pictures, I miss you Diana, love you, and, honor your memories. Mike
God gift to humanity the gift of Love, cherish the memories Blessings to you all always, I love you My husband died after ten yrs I was so distraught I didn’t know the day, I learned how to drive OTR instead of finding a way to die God blessed me with so many great men& women on that ribbon of highways (God showed me how to live)
I don’t even know if John Conley is alive and I think when he had that perverted song of common man and was a sick and twisted and distorted is saying a Chevrolet over Mercedes-Benz showed some very very bad alcohol abuse or pure ignorance but then again that song came out before 1978 when General Motors wasn’t owned by China like it has been since 1978 SAIC the owner of general motors and all of its divisions
I was born in 1969, and grew up as child of the 1970's and 1980's. I agree that " Today's Country " is crap. I grew up listening to John Conlee, Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and so many others.
John Boren well whatever you grew up the same time I did I'm 56 years old right now but I'll tell you what my God man I love that John Conlee Woody he came out with rose colored glasses but my favorite song by him is Miss Emily's picture I sure hope you heard that one that's like that's more favorite than Rose Colored Glasses but what a great tune it talks about a guy that she hit you're a youngin what do you grow up and go through the heartache I have but I just love hearing it all of it and I'm a hard-working man and I never going to stop working but I'm woman less I'm real apprehensive about finding another one but just hang in there dude you be alright but John Conlee rocks and yeah I love all them guys Merle Haggard George Jones Conway Twitty all of them you know if they're all as you know they're all dead now but Tom T Hall all these grew up loving him but hang in there man all this new country just sucks donkey dick I don't want to hear none of it but the old-time stuff man I just love it and hang in there I love to hear from people like you try to hang in there and behave yourself and remember no matter where you go there you are
John Boren SAME! I grew up in dallas listening to all the greats of the time. Then later in my twenties got to meet and become friends w Gary Stewart. Never wouldve guessed that back then. So many music genres are so muddled up and trying to fit into the hip new now scene, theyve all lost their roots. I get that great artists and songs etc hsve been made possible becuase of it but ho lee whats wrong w hangin on to a little down home? 🌲🐻🌲
My kids wonder why I have hardly CD's except Conway Twitty. I tell them that was because he had real talent. I like John Conlee, too and I'm proud to live down the road from where he grew up. Miss George Jones, too - loved all the talented singers but for me, Conway got me through a lot of problems. All I had to do was listen to him and I felt better.
As noted, this song fits the feelings of all who've suffered any emotional loss. 10 years ago, they handed me a box of ashes that had been the love of my life. Yes, I straighten her picture now and then...always will.
Underated ? JC is a Country Music Superstar ..many number 1 hits and idolized by millions 40 years after his 1st hit and still standing tall in the industry ..far from underated ...
"Miss Emily's Picture" was and still is one of my favorite John Conlee hits of all time. Peaked at #2 late in 1981. Should have been a #1. "Blue Highway", "Old School", "Doghouse", and "In My Eyes" are also favorites. John Conlee also belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
This song came out when I was in high school. I loved it and swore I would name my daughter Emily. My picture of Miss Emily has been on my bedside table since taken in 1986 - she will be 36 years April 11th. She’s in heaven. But she will always be Miss Emily - my angel waiting for wings, Emily.
Sirius XM is annoying listening to them pitch their opwn services and the announcers rattling on about nothing and then paying for it..Have 2 vehicles that I can get it on but it's less annoyingand cheaper to play CD's when I want music
There's a couple good country channels on here with new stuff. Check out Music Fog (very creative bands), Live at Billy Bob's Texas, The Texas Music Scene TV. Nashville pretty much moved to Austin and Stillwater Oklahoma. The Red Dirt Americana stuff is still carrying the torch. There's also a channel on here called "real country music albums", and the guy posts album after album of all the great country singers. Recently he posted what seems to be 30 Reba albums. Before that there's about 30 George Jones albums and 30 Merle and Waylon albums. haha it's a beautiful thing!
Thank you for commenting, but in this case it's unrequited love, not someone I have lost to death or divorce. I've loved her for years, we were close for a while but have drifted apart. My life is empty without her. I will truly love her until I die.
MrJNFan I do know what you mean. I have lived a life for the last 19 years missing my Ex. Every day I know the feeling of a fool. For I myself am that fool. I was the reason for my loss. I pray she will find it in her heart to realize you are her world. And love will fill your lives. Love is free. Hate cost to much.
Thank you my friend, glad there are still some nice people out here on the web. While we each wait for our ladies, we'll have John's great music to keep us company for many many years. And I'm afraid it's going to be just that. Have a blessed time. Thanks again for your comments.
Yes today's country music is nothing like the artist of the 70s. It's just not the same. I was lucky to have a radio next to the bed listing to all the country greats of the 70s.

I still love Miss Emily's picture from 12 years ago. This song speaks to me and the pain I still feel inside. I lost Teddy in Vietnam 4 days before his 20th birthday. He got drafted right after graduation. Now he's sleeping in God's big bed.

Love John’s voice and music , so many great songs over the years , love to see him live again , he sounds great live too , Ryman used to be a great place to catch him
Thos song immediately touches the heart ~ Moves me even more since losing my husband of 50 years, Jan 22nd, 2021. Some music is spiritual sustenance, and this hits the mark💖

A gifted singer and songwriter but also a genuinely generous, giving person. His song Busted raises money for the hungry when the fans throw money on stage. A proud advocate of our servicemen and women. And he has some of the best truthful songs I have ever heard. Love his singing and his choice of songs. I do believe Alan Jackson names John as one of his early influences. He is a good man!!!!

Cha Cha don't be suprized that someone still plays this song.Because I play it constantly, now. You see,I always liked this song, and now it has a great deal more meaning.Because, you see, just 13 days before knottheadme uploaded this song My Precious Angel of 36 Gracious years passed-away as I held Her from medical neglance and medical neglect. So you see, this song is now what my life is like every day.
Been listening to John since 8-track days.....now on the computer I can play him all day...and nite........and the memories never end....I love that guy!
I used to have two John Conlee records. I would play them constantly on my vintage radio/record player from the late 40's. What's not to love about these classics? I'm 21.
Heck I'm 45 and although I listen to just about anything from 50's Rock and Roll and every generation all the way up to the 90's, I also remember listening to the likes of John Conlee, Coway Twitty, Mel Tillis and all the other great country artists of the 70's when I was kid and will always go back to listening to it cause you just can't beat classic country music.
Im 27 and John Conlee is one of my favorites. I am a huge fan of classic country. Im also a huge fan of Keith Whitley, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Jones and many many more (Female artists included).
This comment is almost a decade old, but the Keith Whitley song Miami, My Amy literally brought me here because of the voice twang they both share…. Also the guitar styles

Still love this song. John Conlee had a very unique voice...which you never get tired of listening to. Would love to hear new music from this great talent.
Amen I agree with you John conlee was my daddy's favorite singer when I hear one of John conlee I think of all the good times back when my daddy was still here John conlee got nothing but good songs
My daughter's name is Emily. This came out when she was a baby. She would cry every time I sang it to her! Poor kid, I'd have to pick her up and she would just kling to me
Absolutely love John Conlee! Love the country music from the late 70's. I worked with my mother cleaning apts, the summer before I started high school. We (Mom & Dad) would listen to country every morning...
I just love John Conlee. He is the whole package in country music! Gives me goosebumps every time I hear him sing. Wish he would spend more time performing and less time on the farm. My all-time favorite! And a certified nice guy! Ask anyone and they will agree with that statement!
I was a country DJ when this was out along with his other hits. Country music was really good in the 80s. The Oak Ridge Boys, George Jones, Dolly, Earl Thomas Conley, Kenny Rogers, Shania just to name a few. I wish a time machine existed.
I've just been transported to the late 80's - my mom and some aunts and uncles are drinking wild turkey and the music is turned up. We're all laughing. And everyone is getting along, but the nights just begun........
I have grown up listening to a multitude of music genres, I am from Newfoundland Canada and still prefer to listen to john..johnny..willie...waylon...merle and most of all george
this is good ole country right here. just relax and listen. You can feel this guys pain. awesome song writer and singer. back side of 30 will make u want to drink. I love it!!!
Thank you JC for such a beautiful music that go with these words it's like no other thank you for your signature being all over love you and take care till someday
I give a shit! It means that people of all ages can appreciate real music! Whether they are 9 or 69! That's the problem these days. People are listening to "bubblegum" music that suffers from the cookie cutter syndrome. Kids these days don't listen to real music anymore and when I hear that a young person is listening to this..it tells me that there is hope for some of the young ones.
This is a real voice. No auto tune. Yes, he misses a few notes here and there, but the emotional connection more than makes up for it. Perfection is boring and lifeless.
