So basically the synthesis ending from the Mass Effect trilogy? If you choose the destroy option, you've technically won, right? The Reapers are gone and so are all other synthetic forms of life. But in reality you've only postponed the inevitable cycle of organics vs synthetics, so is it really a victory? If you choose the control option, you basically become the A.I. yourself, enforcing peace through the use of ultra advanced machines. So who is really in control here? Reapers actually wanted this from the start, after all. But if you choose the synthesis option, you blur the lines between organic and synthetic life. The war ends. There's no longer any distinction between the two. Sure - you basically commit galaxy wide rape on everyone, but you ensure peace. The cycle has been broken. There's no illusion of control. And as far as people who are unable to engage with hypotheticals goes; there were several studies that suggest, that such people are actually unable to think. They just function.

I'll be doing a video on that too in the future, its actually kind of scary to me how a large percentage of the population can go through life without thinking about anything even at a surface level, but if we all did there wouldn't be a market for fake news targeted at the vast masses of sheeple.

Your idea was done already years ago in a short 10 minute movie starring the original Commander John Connor. The actor with the scare and has no lines dialogue at the beginning of Terminator 2. This short movie he has dialogue and it's good a brief window what a proper Terminator 3 could have been. It's on RU-vid simply called SKYNET.

Isn't that Terminator Genesys, where JC is a terminator?

I find Genesis and Dark Fate poorly written so I excluded them from the discussion, I even said so in the video at the beginning

It's an interesting take on terminator but I disagree respectfully. I personally like to think Skynet realised it's reaction was overly harsh. It then set about trying to uplift humans and save them. Terminator has an unreliable narrator in the form of Kyle Reese. Essentially he's been indoctrinated since birth by the "human resistance". As other people have mentioned, why didn't Skynet do plenty of other things to wipe out humanity, like biological etc? Why round up humans rather than kill on sight? Why dispose of bodies? I put it to you (or anyone reading this), Skynet is now the saviour, the "death" camps are processing camps and the "resistance" are basically a terrorist group. Skynet probably has underground utopias waiting for the processed humans, waited on hand and foot by subservient T-800s and/or being uplifted into Marcus style (or T-800/T-3000) bodies. I mean, if a terminator (T-800) could learn the value of human life in a matter of days, surely Skynet would be able to do similar in 30 years?
@DrexHawkens
@DrexHawkens 13 дней назад
That's an interesting take, but I have to respectfully disagree as well, I don't think there is such a thing as a "Reliable Narrator" in any context, instead my view is that we should use what we are shown to inference the situation at hand. That would be an interesting fan fic from the perspective of the terminators living in cyborg paradise, I'd pay to see or hell produce and direct that! On a side note Sargon of Akadd recently uploaded a video talking about utopia and the true meaning of the word, might be something you'd be interested in.

They made him look dumb by only showing him hack an atm. Which is the best way to convey his skills but that being the only time it downplays it a little. It does however put him in a learning phase as to keep the series going

There is no true loop, there are just ever increasing layers of modifications to the time distortions. What this means is that there was a base time line where skynet was created WITHOUT the need for terminator tech from the future. Judgement day was at a different time than the first movie, probably later because the introduction of the terminators to the past timeline sped up the process. In that timeline they may have sent back terminators to change the past and it might have had nothing to do with John Connor. That caused a fork in the road and a new timeline was created where new stuff happened which changed the future then skynet did something different sending back terminators in this second timeline and a new third timeline was created. The time line we saw in Terminator 1 could very well have been the 1000th new time line, the 1,000,000th new timeline or even more.

Brilliant point, I would argue what you are outlining is still in line with what I'm saying, the "loop" as it were is the cause and effect chain repeating over and over, going back in time repeatedly, this cycle really could theoretically be infinite, but each time it makes things slightly different and each time it changes john and Skynet in ways that effectively improve both's efficiency. This loop is what I am saying is shaping John, and if it is the 1,000,000th it's that many iteration of the experiment, or maybe that many updates to John's programming would be a better way of saying it.

The Sarch Connor Chronicles kind of contradicts Rise of Machines if your counting both. Also you say that you’re not counting dark fate which I’m glad you’re not because the movie sucked and was the worst in the franchise however that was written by James Cameron so by your own admission it should count.
@DrexHawkens
@DrexHawkens 5 дней назад
James Cameron, Charles Eglee, Josh Friedman, David Goyer, and Justin Rhodes, I think at only having 20% of the writing credit it doesn't really count, I think they only had him on the writing staff so they could say written by James Cameron to try and get people to go watch it, that movie truly embodies the phrase "Too many cooks in the kitchen", so technically yes, but fan wise I can't, it just shits on way too much of what came before to include, thank you for your input though!

I maintain that Skynet could have finished humanity off, quite easily, without recognizable land battles, if it so chose (Bioweapons aimed at humanity or just life in general, say... or kill off oceanic plankton to knock out atmospheric oxygen; or increase atmospheric CO2 to human-lethal concentrations; etc... plenty of vulnerabilities to exploit that would not matter at all to the machines) Skynet did not do so. Logically, then, Skynet did not choose to do so. *why???* was it simply protecting the timeline it knew was needed for its own time-looped creation? or was there something more? something, perhaps, long-term beneficial to a humanity that was bent on its own annihilation? it is such a pity that Cameron so often creates a world situation that raises all kinds of interesting and obvious questions (don't get me started on Pandora's obviously interconnected unobtanium, global living supercomputer, and the impossibly humanoid Giant Smurfs) that he then NEVER explores.
@DrexHawkens

If you take what we see at face value these points raise questions of weather Skynet is holding back.
@gordonpromish9218
@gordonpromish9218 14 дней назад
@@DrexHawkens - Skynet was unquestionably holding back. the big question, the one that could have made for an intelligent sequel (rather than a hugely entertaining blockbuster) is WHY??? There are other things - such as: 1. why would Skynet keep its core in only one place? Skynet could have easily made separate redundant cores... DID IT? 2. why would Skynet not colonize space or the moon, totally out of reach of the Resistance? Skynet could have done this easily... DID IT? Sadly, Cameron never explored the world he created or the consequences of the decisions he made in worldbuilding. He never does.
@DrexHawkens
@DrexHawkens 14 дней назад
I will be making a video soon on the one dimensional thinking Skynet has, framed as "if Skynet wins, what would it do?" Because tbh I don't think Skynet has any plans beyond killing humanity. Like I said in the video I think Skynet only has the intelligence of an average human, it may think more efficiently and logically but to borrow terms from HALO I think we would call it a "Dumb A.I." not a "Smart A.I." I'm sure much like you and I a lot of fans of the franchise would have liked to see Cameron continue directing and writing to explore these deeper question, instead of what I feel were crap movies in the last two we got. On the other hand I have some acceptance and joy that he didn't as it allows room to have these sort of philosophical questions and thought experiments of what we did get. Thank you very much for sharing your thought! P.S. I think The Sarah Connor Chronicles was heading in the direction of exploring these questions and friends of mine and myself are disappointed that the show got canceled after only 2 seasons, it had a lot of potential and while the middle of season 2 was somewhat boring, it picked back up and was getting really good at the end.
@whitetiger39619
@whitetiger39619 13 дней назад
Well first we must recognize that this is just a movie so it doesn't have to make logical sense. However, when ignoring that we must assume Skynet is not trying to wipe out humans, it's up to something else.
@DrexHawkens
@DrexHawkens 13 дней назад
I would argue that Terminator may be the most internally consistent universe in fiction, save for maybe Dune. But you are right Tiger it certainly doesn't have to make logical sense in our reality on a physics level, but the story at the core is and should to be considered a good work. Skynet may have created a feed back look with the time travel and thus each time its used they create different and and an unending number of realities/parallel universes as this loop continues. It's possible it's possible it's just side tracked atm with pin pricking John Connor, it's original objective though was to destroy humanity before humanity could destroy it, that being said if it did defeat John and eliminate humanity as a Threat, what would it do at the end? I see two possibilities, 1. Skynet now is faced with a dilemma of purpose and could either try to find some meaning to it's existence or with it's mission complete it goes into a stand by mode sort of like a computer that goes to sleep mode when it hasn't had input for a period of time. Seems a tad boring for my taste, or 2. We see throughout the series that Skynet has been taking prisoners instead of just executing every human it finds, why? This is a lot deeper of a question and I think the answer maybe in line with what I've discussed in this series so far, I think its trying to learn what its like to be human, but it can't wrestle with the subject properly because it's incapable of understanding the question that it may be asking, or more over it's just incapable of understanding humans period. Thus it has collected some to "study" as it where, it may seem odd to us but to Skynet it maybe attempting to dissect humans or probe their mental faculties in order to learn it's enemy and adapt to fight them, this is probably culminating in John Connor a human that Skynet is very familiar and interested in, this sort of leads back to the whole John beings the perfect evolution of Skynet thing. If this is or is not true honestly irrelevant, as the concept is still valid either way, Skynet either does or does not have motives and goals beyond humans, I will explore this further in a future video. But what do you think? I'm curious what theories my audience has.

But you say skynet isnt sentient thought it is self aware. But it had to be smart enough to invent time travel. So it's just not just a dumb self aware machine.

Not really, sentience, self awareness, intelligence, and ability for analytical computation are all very different things, and these are all bell-curves not on off, yes no, have or don't, things.

I'm not trying to be mean, but this might be one of the worst film theory video essays I've ever seen. You lost me at the loop with skynet. And then for the next 6 minutes or so kept telling me what but never once told me why. Someone else already said it but definitely a cool idea until you really start to think about it. No thumbs down from me though. I'd come back and check out another idea if it popped up in my feed.

@@DrexHawkens I'm gonna thumbs up the vid bc I like that you can take respectful criticism. Nice job being cool. And if you're interested in explaining more, I'm curious to understand what you meant by the skynet loop. I didn't understand that part at all.
@DrexHawkens
@DrexHawkens 5 дней назад
I probably will do a video on that soon, it's basically that the use of time travel is a feed back loop that is effectively endless, it happens over and over and little changes continue to pile up over time. I welcome and love respectful criticism, that's how dialogue starts, I was willing to make this and put it on the internet I have to be willing to have an open discussion about it and clarify it too. Appreciate the support bud!
