That MC94 record with John is so damn good. I listened to it earlier today, holy shit it hits hard. Bob Rock's production with John, Tommy, Mick, and Nikki is so badass.
They really pushed themselves (or Bob pushed them) to stretch musically, as a band they sounded a lot different musically. It's definitely underrated as a record. But for what it's worth I understand why fans didn't absorb it, because to most people's ears, the sound of a band is the sound of the singer.
Funny how now people finally realize how good this guy is. He got a bad rap because it was a “Motley Crue” album... fact is, he is a better writer and singer than Vince. If they would have called the band something different for that record I bet he would have done so much better - people listen with their eyes sometimes and not their ears
The John Corabi self titled album is their best by far. John brought another element of songwriting and singing to the band. Problem was, Vince Neil was still live and well. No one in the general public wanted to accept a Motley Crue without Vince Neil. They should have changed their name like Alter Bridge did.
@@redpillhellbilly3515 Or just done a second record with him. Tons of VH fans shit all over the Sammy thing at first, but with time, he became the accepted singer of VH. The other problem was that grunge was in full swing by the time that Corabi joined Crue. If Vince had sang on that 1994 release, they would've still been playing smaller venues, because the a lot of the audience was done with hair metal and discovering new music. Funny thing is that Corabi's Crue was more bluesy and grittier than anything they did with Vince. I'm so glad I got to see that tour's stop in Denver. We were in the second row, and the band was just in the zone.
John just kills it! Pulled this album out today for this first time in years and have been blasting the F out of it since. Such a damn shame this didn’t get the accolades it deserved. Looking forward to his book.
Love Mötley, but Vince’s voice has been on an Axl Rose for a good ten years now. Corabi still has the vocal chops and still looks good, and his band sounds amazing
The sad part is if both of them dropped like 50 lbs, they'd sound great. Vince never sounded great, but the thinner he is, the better he is. Same with Axl. When Axl was confined to wheelchair, he sounded great. And last I saw Vince in 08, he was slim and sounded great. Too bad about both of them now. Remember back in the day the 2 of them wanted to fight? Now they should settle their differences at a nice Las Vegas buffet..
jeff cordova Axl got a lot of his voice back the last few years. But yeah, even Axl of 2008 with cornrows could out sing Vince after running the NYC marathon....Vince is the shits, plain and simple
The drummah nails the drum part for the most part. But what's missing here is the pure violence of Tommy Lee's long, lanky, swinging for the fences violence.
Totally! Tommy plays like he’s getting reckless with a couple of claw hammers - you can hear the difference in that drum fill after the first line. Tommy sounds like he’s gonna make the universe collapse in on itself! Great version tho, and Crabs has still got the pipes!
I knew back when Hoppy first introduced me to John that He was the Perfect Fit for that Band. Who would have thought a Lead Singer who could actually SING!!!!!!!!!!😎❤️❤️🤘🏽
+JRPowellIIIMusic Corabi has a live album and dvd coming out of this Crue stuff and is the singer on the Mick Mars solo album whenever that is out. Just in case you didn't already know.
Now this is a Jam..capital J. Excellent musicians bass player and all including that dude at the front row. Crue 94 could hv been the continuation of kick ass delivery to the millenium. 😎
i think everybody realizes how great Corabi was (especially Nikki) but Vince is Motley Crue. Maybe if Corabi wasn’t so talented and had better stage presence things would have been different.
Sometimes there simply is no justice. Motley swaps singers and puts out a devastatingly great record. Record buying public: yawn. Van Halen swaps singers (Hagar) and puts out a fairly milktoast (by VH standards) record. Record buying public: Let's lose our collective minds.
The '94 Mötley Crüe album is my favorite of theirs. They ditched the sex, drugs, fast cars and women motif for pure hard rock! So Corabi wrote this? That's why he's allowed to play it live? Or does it just fall under ASCAP rules? Sounds really good either way!
I'm a motley fan and a drummer and prior to Corabi joining motley I loved him in "The Scream"... to me it's the best motley album written.. it's funky/heavy and grooves like nothing they've ever written. unfortunately people just couldn't handle Corabi replacing Vince MEAL and didn't support it and tbh didn't understand good music. sorry.. vince sucks and the current motley tour is a joke with Vince singing. a previous comment was spot on. possibly should have just renamed the band, but contracts and $$$.....
Corabi was such a MAJOR upgrade to Crue. It's a goddamn shame most of the fanbase couldn't get over Vince Neil and his (always) terrible voice. By the way, how's that working out for ya in 2021? LOL!
It’s the singer for the opening band. He loves the Corabi album. He can sing about anything. He can sing exactly like Vince and then also had an Iron Maiden tribute band.
Needs the drums and guitars mixed up, especially the lead. The rhythm is drowning it out and the cymbals are too prominent. I know, easier said than done due to the acoustics of the tiny venue.
