I had a great experience in 2017 at DTE (now finally renamed Pine Knob) in Michigan a year after this interview took place. I attended a meet and greet with the Doobie Brothers which was Tommy, Patrick, and John McFee. John Cowan was not there. BUT...for the first few tunes of the Doobies set (they were opening for Steely Dan), many people had not arrived and got to their seats yet....so my wife and I were right in front of John and his bass - he noticed us up and enjoying the music and directly connected with us for a couple tunes in a row. It was great to see him smile and enjoy playing so much. Thanks John!

John Cowan is an amazing talent who has been my favorite male vocalist since I first saw him with New Grass Revival in the 80s. He has a gift!!

Wife and I went to see a double show (Doobies - me &, Foreigner - wife) in Canberra in 1993. John sang the final few Doobie songs. Wife, and Lou Gramm said how do beat a performance like that. John made the Doobies the show favorite.

meet John way back in '74, he was playing and singing in a YES cover band called YOU, down in Louisville, Kentucky. He mentioned one night that he was going to audition for a 'Bluegrass Band!!! I was like WHAT!!!! With a voice like his, you can do better. Turns out I didn't know about NEW GRASS REVIVAL. Boy was I wrong Thanks for proving me wrong, many great songs and contributions. "Keep on keeping on"! Stills.

Best group of New Grass Revival was John Cowan, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, and Pat Flynn. They cut "Callin Baton Rouge" in '89. When Garth Brooks cut the song, he insisted those guys come play the recording for him because they were the best.
