Any time he explains anything you need to “ De-DANAHER” the explanation. What the normal professional could explain in 1 minute, multiply x 100. So for every 1 minute, Danaher uses 100 minutes of time. I will say he’s wasting his time with martial arts. He ls the 21st century Leonard Nimoy. He should be on Nat-Geo or Discovery channel narrating for a pack of wild wolves living in the Canadian border, or tracking a lions pride in the Serengeti. Your voice is your superpower. From what I see, at the heavier weight divisions a lot of the competitors seem to be getting away with depending more on their size than their skill. Gordon increased both his size and skill, equalizing the former attribute and gaining advantage in the latter. When size is equalized, skill takes over. Thus, Gordon monopolizes the division.

@@LOLLYPOPPE I started off at 62 kg and worked my way up to 78 kg. - It is very important to learn mechanics and leverage in grappling martial arts. A lot of strong dudes can’t pass half guard, so they go for Americana. - If they don’t know submissions from side control, they will go into heavy pressure (shoulder over neck), and even headlocks from kesa gatame.
@C0d0ps
@C0d0ps Год назад
@@oldironsides4107 The difference here is Gordon Ryan is the best P4P grappler. - Many people are only good in their weight class, whereas others can dominate 2 or 3 weight classes. - Example of this in mma is Khabib Nurmaghedov, George St Pierre. - The most technical small fighter I’ve ever seen is Demetrious Johnson. It is a shame ufc doesn’t promote these smaller weight classes, as much as welterweight, and heavyweight.

Lex was off about Gordon's expressions. He's not showing fear. For all of Gordon's Chad-like qualities, he seems to be genuinely an eccentric guy, which comes out in his mannerisms and expressions. You can see it in the interviews. Even just listening to his voice: it doesn't match his look. He sounds like a professor or a guy with OCD even though he looks like a Chad. It's kinda funny actually, and endearing. Had he got into the sciences or the arts, with his intensity, I think his quirks would make more sense for what they are.

It would not surprise me if these best strikers and grapplers has adhd or ocd. Something to give them that extra push over other athletes. - Gordon Ryan and John Danaher are both very systematic similar to ocd people. - Mike Tyson probably has adhd, for all that explosive power and anger all the time. He had loads more energy for the first 3-6 rounds, than most knockout artists.

In Gordon’s first match in the turtle position when his opponent stands and Gordon still has the hook in with the power half there’s a back sweep in wrestling that allows you to maintain the back without losing the hook. Jayden Eirman currently from Iowa University does it best if you’re interested in the position.

Here are some takeaways for white belts in BJJ based on the commentary of the ADCC matches: Energy Efficiency is key in BJJ: The commentator mentions that Gordon Ryan chooses to sit down to the bottom position to conserve energy as opposed to taking a standing position where most of the energy gets burned up. This is because working from the bottom position is less tiring than working from the top position. [1:00] Don't just focus on offense, defense is important too: The commentator talks about how a white belt might think that offense is all that matters, but defense is just as important. He mentions that turtling can be an effective defensive strategy, and that some people only associate guard position with bottom position, but that's naive. [2:12] Look at the extremities to see if someone is nervous: The commentator says that confident behavior can look like anger and sometimes nervousness can look like vulnerability. When judging confidence, look at the extremities of the body, such as the hands and feet. If someone is nervous, their extremities will be jittery. [5:22] BJJ is a forgiving sport: The commentator says that BJJ is a forgiving sport compared to other sports like boxing or kickboxing. You can make mistakes in BJJ and still recover, whereas in other sports you might get knocked out for making a mistake. [7:40] Develop a strong mental game: The commentator talks about Gordon Ryan's mental game and says that confidence is a big part of it. Confidence comes from having a strong skill set and from knowing that you can recover from bad positions. [8:20] Work on your escapes: The commentator talks about how important it is to escape from bad positions. Gordon Ryan is very good at escaping from bad positions because he works on his escapes relentlessly in training. [9:30] There are no shortcuts in BJJ: The commentator says that you can't just magically acquire skills in BJJ. You have to put in the hard work in training to develop your skills. [10:10] Body lock is a good way to shut down leg locks: The commentator talks about how the body lock is a good way to shut down leg locks. However, you have to be careful when using the body lock because it can also give your opponent an opportunity to get under you and attack your legs. [11:30]

I remember hearing a quote that applies to what Lex brings up around the 23:00 mark. I don't know who said it first (all of my searches find conflicting evidence), but I think it might've been someone in the military: "you never rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your preparation." Sure, the context and stage upon which you compete can have physiological and psychological impacts on you (adrenaline, hearing your name chanted gives you come confidence, etc), but generally guys in those situations are so dialed in that their instincts just take over. They execute things they've done thousands of times specifically for the moment, and if all goes well, they usually come out victorious.

I agree with John in other combat sports being more forgiving! I wrestled from he age of 5 until the age of 26. I was a successful wrestler but not technically sound. I liked to create scrambles and was able to develop a style around that. When I started training BJJ, my wrestling style didn't translate well against brown and black belts in BJJ. It took me 3 or 4 years to figure out how to wrestle in BJJ without getting caught because BJJ is not as forgiving as wrestling. It's also hard to unlearn or slow down things that had become 2nd from wrestling while doing BJJ.

Why would Gordon have to stand up and be forced to a takedown battle if that first guy managed to shake him off the turtle?

Because partway into the match, I believe 5 minutes in this case, the judges begin awarding and deducting points, which is not the case during the early portion of the match. If Gordon’s opponent was able to return to his feet, Gordon would have been forced into a wrestling battle with his opponent because he would have been penalized for sitting down or allowing his opponent to take him down.

Gordon Ryan; undefeated, arguably the most skilled BJJ grappler to grace the mat. Can beat anyone who challenges him....... Unless....... They are in Gi... In Gi, Gordon is made to look no more skilled than a Blue belt. There was a BJJ grappler who was never submitted in his entire grappling career, Gi and No gi. Every win he has was by submission. Gordon is extremely talented but only in No gi, really. When he rolls in Gi, half of his skill set disappears and he is submitted fairly easily by a moderately skilled grappler. While Gordon is extremely skilled, he is still far from true GOAT status as he is yet to dominate the IBJJF like he has with the ADCC
