John Deere 160C LC Excavator - How Operator Controls Work (Basic). In this video, I got a heavy equipment operator to sit down and give a brief explaination of how the controls on this 2004 John Deere 160C LC Excavator work. This trackhoe is awesome! It weighs in at about 35,000 lbs. and is approximately 8 feet wide. This one is going to be used for Demolition Work as soon as the owner installs a thumb.
If you have ever wondered how the heavy equipment operators run these machines, this video shows the basics of how it's done.
I would like to thank the operator for taking the time to put on an impromto demonstration for the making of this video.

The left joystick moving from left to right he meant to say controls the swing, in other words, it swings the boom.

GET IT RIGHT!!! I don't know why it is so frustrating, but most of these "professional" videos are utter garbage when it comes to the interesting and important details. SAE CONTROLS: [Right hand] BUCKET+BOOM - [Left hand] ARM(STICK)+SWING ISO CONTROLS: [Right hand] BUCKET+ARM(STICK) - [Left hand] BOOM+SWING Had to google this because none of these self proclaimed pro's know the difference..... I myself prefer ISO because it makes more sense, curling the arm in one side, length of reach and angle in the other. My brain can handle ISO much quicker. Personal preference clearly.

I did a excavator course, got my ticket. But could not get a job anywhere, they all said I needed at least 2 years experience, now how was I supposed to get a job if I needed two years experience, how was I supposed to get two years experience if no one would give me a job, and so the wheel goes round and round, no experience no job no job because of no experience.... I wonder how did these guys get a job, wonder were they born experienced excavator drivers as babies.

+Pat Hann Just a suggestion: Get your "job provider" to access some work experience - even present yourself to Civil companies volunteering work experience. Half the time (and seriously) it's not what you know, it's who you know. If you're an OK operator without the 2 years it's a very good way to get your foot in the door if they like you. Good luck.

It's the same as anything..when I started trucking, 2 years experience was required, very frustrating. But ;) what I did in the end was this, made up my own references, used a company name, made up letter head, and ( sadly) the owner had died and the company closed....in other words " I DID LIE LIKE A SIDEWALK" but I got a job, and I figured out the rest AFTER starting work....as the saying goes " if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bull".....

Pat Hann I completed an excavator training course and nobody would hire me either. I thought i was a pretty good operator at least compared to the other guys in my course and I figured I would do ok if somebody gave me a chance once I got my foot in the door...so I lied and said I had 3 years experience lol I've been operating 23 years now : ) It's unfortunate but I did what I had to do to get a job and prove to them and myself I could do it. Back then there was no you tube. Theys days I'd watch videos and learn what you can. Any chance you get go to a job site and watch. Better still go near the end of the work day and talk to some of the guys. Chat a guy up, tell him your situation, offer to buy him a beer. Whatever it takes...information is power.Most guys would help out if they can. We all started out as green horns once too. But like I said, when all else fails...LIE!! Do what you gotta do. AND don't give up.

Marshall Houston yup also called CAT controls. I run ISO John Deere controls. if you want an oil field job here you are required to run CAT/SAE

I watched someone demo an old house with a Deere 590D yesterday and was quite fascinated, made me want to find out more about how these work and this vid was quite informative. Makes me want to try operating one of these myself!

my life long ambition is to work with the excavator, I live in the UK and want to change my job. how do I get in to working with these monsters what license do I need and what tests are there to pass and prices, any help from anyone would be greatly received.
