I run through the replacement of the front axle pivot pins and bushes and machine up a new bush for the steering pivot. There will be more to come on this tractor front end.
Thank you so much for making this video. I purchased a 1030 with all the same problems. It was dangerous to drive down the road, due to the steering being so sloppy. There was no trace of needle bearings left and then the axle housing hole was all worn larger also. This video has helped tremendously! Thanks again!!!
I both mine in 1976 the modle was 1973 it sat on the dealers lot for 3 years had 1.5 hrs on it its 50 years old still going strong 2500 hrs on it now she still looks good been in shed ever sents i had it.
Thank you for posting this. I've got an old 2020 whose bell crank is so sloppy it won't hardly turn. This winter (if it makes it til then!) it's getting nosed in and pulled apart to see what all it's going to take to tighten it up. Your video was an excellent 'primer' for my project. I appreciate your taking the time to make it. I'll most likely be watching it several times in a few months!
I was having a difficult time removing the tie rod on my 3020 when I came across this video. The design was similar enough so I gave your technique a try and it worked great! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thank you for posting such valuable information on the 2030. Mine has been a source of anxiety because it needs everything yours does. It is still in use, but this winter will finally be the time renew many of the systems. You're doing a great job making these tasks look easy!

Thanks Joe, As you go into winter we are in summer now, another month and it will get quite hot, days are 30-34 deg C at present but 38 is not uncommon. 38 sucks the energy out of you if it is very humid as well. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great to see an informative video working on the John Deere 2030, currently restoring my dads. Renewed the bushings on the front axle but the wheels are flicking back and forth when driving, think there is alignment issues! This is the least of my worries, the hydraulics are acting up, can't wait for your hydraulic repair videos ha ha.

Thank you for showing this . I have looked all over the You tube world about a John Deere front end . I have a1973 2120 John Deere and the front end needs work on the part you are doing plus the spindles for the wheels plus bearing in the parts that the tie rod end tie on too . You have a good one eh Canada here
Spot on Lance. Now I know you're experienced at this, and have the tools, but that was a top job. Also know the hard graft it takes...credit where it's due eh!
Good job Lance, your tractor is about like my 2640 I did the same job on mine except I did not have a fork truck or shop floor to do it in, I guess the worst part was getting the axel back in without killing my self quite a pain but I got it.
That boomarang is a bellcrank. John Deere built those front ends with 2 different sizes of needle bearings and some just had bushings, it depends on the casting number of the front end and bell crank used. It seems they just mixed and used whatever I have never found the parts books to well match what was on the tractors. Pretty sure you put that front bushing in upside down though. The grease is supposed to go around the bushing and come out on top where the load is.
G Day Brian, The grease hole lined up and there is a track around to the load bearing surface, they must have thought it was easy to get grease into that way and there is more surface area to support the load without the grease hole. The 40 and 50 series utility tractors went to a stub axle like pivot with tapered bearings over here after this setup. These old girls were my bread and butter for many years.
We call them bellcrank over here too but I was trying to explain the shape, the top arm on the top of the king pin we call a bellcrank too. But we call fenders mud guards and a hood is a bonnet. And what you call a scale we call a ruler. Our language over here is slowly becoming Americanised if there is such a word as TV, Facebook and RU-vid make the world a smaller place.
Bundy Bears Shed I have beat hundreds of those pins and bushings in over the years but i admit it has been probably ten or more since i did a utility tractor like that, We mostly work on 5000 and 6000 series now as the old 30 and 40s are too worn out to bring in the shop. I know on the waterloo built tractors the hole goes on the top but couldn't remember if the utility's had an external groove around the bushing or not.
Hi Lance, Thanks a lot for your videos and sharing your knowledge. I have a question. For pulling out the bushes you have used a press with 30 T. And after your have tried a handmade extractor. But how do you choose the steel of the threaded bar and nuts ? Indeed considering the forces not all kind of steel would be able to widthstand such forces correct ? I am in process of viewing all your videos. Looks like it is gonna take a while ! Keep going and thanks a lot from France !

There is a shoulder on the pin and it knocks out from the back forwards and the front axle when in place holds it there. They are a bit of a bugger to get a swing on but it is do able
G'day Lance, Thanks for the video, I've been wanting to do the same on my 2130 for years. The steering pin is so badly worn it laughable. Quick question, where did you get your pins from and steel back bearings. We have a John Deere dealer hear in WA but their prices are insane. Is there an email address that I can use to ask any more pressing questions. Finding info on my 2130 is hard work and it would be handy to ask someone with a similar machine. Marco
Great video! I´m doing the frontaxle on my 3130 right now and this video helped alot. Unfortunately my back pivot pin has some wear, and i´m not quite sure how to push it out or back in. To bad you didn´t change yours :) How would you do it? it´s very litte space to the oilpan. Thank you!
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks for the tip! I got it out with a M24 rod with a bunch of thick washer and a socket on the pushing end. Did take som force though :)
Pushed out with a bottle jack and some wood blocks, a little concerned with pushing the replacement back in with the oil pan in the way and all. Hopefully a nice dry ice acetone bath will allow for a quick fit. Any tips would be awesome!
Hello I have a problem in jd 2030, the handbrake linings are torn, do you have a movie how to fix it? whether to remove the lifting arms, or to unscrew the left housing of the rear axle. my tractor is equipped with a cabin. Regards Marek
Hi !! Got your channel location from RustlyGloveBox .. I have a 1951 Ferguson T20 - I also have a John Deere 2010 .. I can't seem to get the PTO to work .. any ideas what it might be? I have heard a lot of people have trouble with 2010 PTO's .. thanks much .. Gary
G Day Gary, Welcome aboard, The 2010 could be a troublesome model at times but the clutch is just a small single disk from memory but I must admit I have not plated with one for ages now. I will have a look whan I get a chance and post here if there is anything comes to mind.

I can't believe it is much but just doesn't seem to work .. it acts like it wants to turn .. but doesn't "take off" .. there are two holes for the pto "rod" that comes out of the tractor .. I am assuming they are two different speeds .. I should try and get it out and see if the other "hole" works . thanks again !! Gary
Duncan Margetts just a better longer lasting brake system. Almost all modern tractors do it that way now John Deere was ahead of the pack back when they bought these out
