Hello. Ben Shumaker here in Kingsville, Maryland. I have to hand it to you, I love your videos. You’re the only one I’m subscribed to on RU-vid so I can easily find your videos. You could not do a better job at making these videos… everything from talking about your goal, the equipment you’re using, how to operate it along with being very informative/ showing exactly what the implement does, is incredibly helpful for me. What you do in every video I’ve seen is exactly what I enjoy doing and would like to be able to do. I have been researching a lot of this equipment over the last few months, but until I saw any of your videos, I have not really been able to see first hand exactly what the implement will do and if I’m able to get it to do what I want it to do. Thanks to your videos, I’m confidently able to see exactly what each implement does.
Good morning Ben and thanks for making my day. Your encouragement goes a long way to keep me making more videos. I’m so glad to hear the instructional type of video works well for you. Based on your comments I’ll keep that style of video. Thanks again for the kind words and subscribing, have a great week . -Bill
@@aaronburford5701 Thanks so much, Aaron, your comments are helping me stay afloat with the analytics that seem to work against smaller channels like mine. Thanks buddy. -Bill
Good morning, Aaron. I have done all the editing for the next upcoming video. The new computer is fantastic. I'll get the voiceover done next week if all goes well. Have a good day, my friend -Bill
@@billburkhart That is GREAT and wonderful news! Glad the new computer is working for you. Even more excited about the next content and video for you... Sorry if I am inpatient, just LOVE your channel! Sitting at treatment now with a smile! Thanks and have great day on purpose!
Hey Bill it Troy Thompson watching from Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island Canada to maintain my 6acre grass farm lol. Proud owner of the following: 2038R X758 S250
Awesome Troy! I have the x758 also, the way that tractor goes up and down steep terrain is impressive. My gosh you live in a pretty part of the world. Have a great Springtime.
Hello Andy, thanks so much for checking in and letting me know where you’re watching from. I sure appreciate it. Enjoy the weekend and stay in touch.-Bill
Andy, I can tell you from experience buying a tractor is like buying a boat. I started off with the JetSki and ended up with a 40 foot yacht. Each trade up was expensive and the same applies to buying tractors. Go with the biggest tractor you can afford, and I can tell you the 2038 is a perfect size tractor for most acreages. Hope this makes sense-Bill
Hi Bill, Thanks for the shout out on the map, much appreciated, I'm also in the process of getting the garden ready for this coming year and getting some mushroom compost to help loosen the the ground, love your x700, those are sweet, we had a x500 before and loved it but it just didn't have 4WD so traded it in. Glad you are enjoying the top link,, you are really getting around the world, congrats. well deserved, really nice to hear from Kauai, that was were my wife and I went on our honeymoon 30 years ago in May, have a good day and as always, another great video.

Next time take the route that goes on right side once u come out of the compost center.. I remember once people stuck at railroad crossing while I was done dropping off lawn clippings and returned..😀
Enjoy your video, love my 1025R, I use my tractor to aerate, and landscape with the loader. I have an older 132 John Deere tow behind aerator. Need to aerate and over seed in this clay soil every fall in Raleigh, NC
Hello Steven, I googled your part of the world and I’m envious for all the flat ground around you ....looks like a nice place to live ...happy holidays
Hello Jimmer and Merry Christmas. I was lucky to find this top dresser, excited to do another application come spring. Hopefully a healthier new year is coming soon take care
I got a pickup load of horse manure from I guy I worked with and drove 70 miles. I was surprised how little of it I lost. That is a neat way to put compost on your yard. You are going to need to build a new shed to keep all of your attachments.
Hello MDH so nice to hear from you again, have a merry Christmas and a healthy new year. You are correct the shop is getting full , I don’t know what that means?????
Merry Christmas to you too. It means like me, you will have to start putting attachments somewhere other than the shop. Right now my chipper is in the basement. Good thing I have an overhead door in the basement.
@@mdh7812 ha ha I’m sorry, I was trying to be funny, my wife would tell me a full garage means no more Impliment’s, on the other hand I say build more buildings😀😀
@@billburkhart I left the big city life years ago and found a quiet , peaceful spot. Great scenery and great small town neighbors. Wouldn't trade it for the world. :) Stay safe.
Really enjoying your videos Bill. Thank you. Looking forward to owning a 2 series tractor soon for our new home in Mason, MIchigan. I'm currently on the fence between 2025R and 2032R.
Good morning Jason, my advice is buy the largest tractor you can afford, and avoid the cost of trading later. Without knowing your situation, look hard at the 2032. I moved up to be able to have more tractor weight, PTO HP, and more loader lift ability. Thanks for supporting the videos I make, sure appreciate it. I’ll get you on the viewers map, have a great Spring. -Bill
Love your videos. Got lots of useful information regarding repairing my leaky pond. I don't know where you get all of the energy for all of your various projects.. Thanks! Rob O. from Fawn Grove, PA
Hello Rob, thank you for the kind words, I’m retiring in two weeks and hope I can keep my energy up ……..enjoy your summer and thank you for watching my videos.
Hi Bill, Mike Sullivan from Bolton, Massachusetts here. I’m a fellow 2038r owner and enjoyed the video on the top dresser. Too bad we don’t live closer, would love to borrow it!
Hello Mike, hope you enjoy your 2038 as much as I do. The top dresser was an unusual find. I was so happy to find compost and get to use it. Merry Christmas stay positive and test negative 😀
Hello Rick, you will not go wrong with the two or three series, I just love these machines. You and Debbie have a safe holiday. Hopefully a healthier new year is coming
For the next time you buy compost in the 1st dump trailer, the loader operator should have tapped it down with the bucket to avoid from losing any material. Plus the 1st trailer needed to have a tarp that wrapped down the sides and had a tie down rope along the sides. Might have to go back roads next time as well. Highway speeds aren't usually good for lose material loads. Just for future reference.
27 cubic feet is one cubic yard. That top dresser "could possibly" handle a 1.5 cubic yards of the mulch you use. Since your 2038 can lift high enough, an idea would be to add 2x12 sideboards to get more on the topdresser. But the sideboard idea is for your larger yard projects.
Andrew I’ll consider your idea to add sides next spring. This past fall I top dressed the lawn with the gate full open and it empties quickly. Thanks for the idea.
Hello, thank you so much for taking time to watch my videos and comment, I sure appreciate it , hope is all is well as can be expected in your community. Have a good weekend.
@@billburkhart Thanks Bill. I did see in later videos that you're not doing the individual call outs, LOL. No big deal. I thought that might get out of hand as your audience grew. Hope you're enjoying retirement (I know I am).

Hi Bill, Luc from L’Ange-Gardien, Quebec, Canada. Nice top dresser, can’t wait to see what the lawn will look like in the spring, stay safe and happy holidays.
Merry Christmas Wouter i’m so glad you checked in from your part of the world, this is awesome to learn where everyone is watching from. Hopefully a healthier new year is about to come, stay safe.
do you do any hand raking after using the top dresser? How does the top dresser deal with any lumpy compost? Has the compost been processed before you use it so that it is generally lump free?
Good morning 57 Merrill, good questions. I use the chain link drag to push the compost into the grass and fluff up the grass. When I purchase it, it has been processed and has the consistency of sugar, so it’s truly lump free. I do have to hand throw some compost in areas where I can’t get into with the spreader. Enjoy your weekend and stay in touch. -Bill
Hey Bill thanks for the great informative videos! I'm going to be purchasing a 2038R soon for our 37 acres where we will be building our house in Rossville Indiana! Just stumbled across your channel and im glad I did!
Great job once again Bill. Really handy use of the blower to even things up. Love what you are doing out there!! I am from the Lynchburg Va area in a small place called Goode. Keep them coming! Merry Christmas! Russ
Merry Christmas RUSS, that blower is one of the handiest tools I have, I can’t believe how effective it is in the spring to de-thatch my yard. Stay healthy and thanks for continuing to watch the videos
Hello Darrick, I'm 75 miles North of the compost site, not sure who would deliver the compost here. Great idea, wish I could have it hauled. Have a great Spring.
Hi stumbled on to your channel watching my favorite Tractor Porn channels TTWT, Welker, MN MF, etc. Anyways, your math was a touch off. 1 Cubic Yard equals 27 Cubic Feet. In the future check with your materials supplier, our local site Denton Dyno Soil allows you to buy in bulk 10 yds³ or more at once even if it takes a couple trips. I bought 25 yds³ a few years ago and it saved a ton of money even though it took me 12 trips with a flatbed trailer. Denton County, Texas.
Hello Eric. Thanks for pointing that out for me I really blew my math on that calculation. That is a terrific idea because I can make two loads in one day easily......next time down there I’ll ask if I can purchase it all at one time ......terrific idea. Merry Christmas have a great holiday season
Sebastian you are correct!! No idea what I was thinking about at that time. I did put a clarification in the description hoping people will see the updated information. Merry Christmas and hopefully a healthier new year is coming soon
Good morning Ken, Google Davenport Compost Facility 2707 Railroad Ave. It’s the best quality compost I’ve seen. The facility is well organized and you won’t be disappointed. Let me know what you think. -Bill
Hello Joe, merry Christmas. I’m trying to get away from chemical treatments, and go more organic. I hope this works. Thanks for your interest in my project I sure appreciate it. Have a healthier new year.
Hey Bill - great video, wish I had that for my yard! Also, you accidentally doing your driveway sure shows how consistently it spread. Just FYI 27 cubic feet is 1 cubic yard.
@@billburkhart Oh! I just thought it would be good to pass along so in the future you don't accidentally misorder material and scratch your head wondering what's up! Happy Holidays!
Hi Gary, I work for a Government facility and have learned there are many opportunities if you keep you eyes open. Next months video will show you how. Happy holidays!
Bill, have you tried the 700 series mower to pull the spreader???? I'm looking at turning radius around your yard. My Kubota would possibly make tearing spots with having the R1 AG tires.
Hi Andrew, yes, I've pulled the dresser with the 700 series and my Kawasaki Mule. I guess the lawn damage depends on how wet the ground is. We finally got rain here in Iowa and I tore up some areas on the hillside mowing grass with the 700 series. I don't know why I don't use the 700 to pull it. I'll try and remember to do that next spring. Hope you're having a nice fall.
@@billburkhart I am looking at using a smaller to machine to get around corners and tight areas. OR maybe take off the loader, but then you would have to load the top dresser by hand.
@@billburkhart just came across your channel and enjoyed the video I watched so I subscribed. I'm trying to grow my channel as it is small right now. Take care, stay safe!
@@wherenorthbegins7831 thank you so much for subscribing I appreciate it- good luck with your channel don’t get frustrated with it. The process can be frustrating at times. Bill
Hi Bill, didn't realize I was subscribed to your channel. Appreciate your help in the other thread. I like trains, lol & subscribe to a couple of railfan channels. Neat implement - I think this is a service I could offer. I bet that's a pretty expensive piece to buy new but I really like it. Nice score getting it at auction & for it to be in such great condition. I want a 2038R but it's just too big for my property & for the type of property I expect to be working on. A 1025R is probably big enough but I want something slightly larger so I'm down to a 2025R, B2401 (gear drive), or B2601. I'm leaning towards one of the Kubota's in this frame size for a number of reasons (there are things I like about both) & really towards the gear drive odd as that seems given HST's are all the rage but need to go up to Messick's & test one out. Since you don't have any push pins in the mid Atlantic, I'm in Severna Park, Maryland.
Hi Daniel merry Christmas. Sounds like you’ve thought through this very well so you’ll be just fine. Thanks for letting me know you’re in Maryland, wish I was close enough to drive to Penns and buy from Neil.
@@billburkhart Merry Christmas to you as well. I hate to say "too much" research as it's a big purchase & one that you have to live with for a while although obviously you traded up & these do hold their value, but I've definitely thought about it extensively or more accurately obsessed over it:). Both the Kubota and JD dealers tried to steer me into a BX & 1025R respectively. Both seem just a tad small but a 2038R seems huge. If subcompact I'd definitely go 1025R and in the next size up would likely go w/a 2038R but in the B2601 (or 2401) vs. 2025R, the difference to me was clear: Other than the single point hydraulic connector, JD has more convenience/appearance features & Kubota has more "real tractor" functionality. It's hard to justify the former & while I'm not a treadle pedal fan, it's not the reason to go gear drive but not having that "feature" is an added benefit. I truly enjoy the manual transmission in my pickup (both physically shifting & the control) and have plowed snow with a manual and liked that. The salesman thinks I'm nuts and once I drive it I'll realize it's not the right way to go but I think I'll like and adapt quite well even for loader work (the shifter even seems to be set up optimally for it). There's a great vid of a Kubota tech driving one after assembling it and it looks like a blast! I was not impressed w/my local Kubota dealer. There are two or 3 other dealers that are closer but Messick's is about 90 min. away and the salesman there has been extremely helpful. Looking forward to making a trip up there. Delaware has no sales tax so that is an issue w/buying from Messick's (about $2k) but we'll see what happens. Apparently prices can vary that much from dealer to dealer anyway and the dealer in DE knows they have a competitive advantage & may use that to boost their profits. All things (close to) equal & I'd rather buy from Neil.
Hi Erik, not at this time, I really like the machine and while I only use it twice a year, I’m going to hold onto to it. If it had a catastrophic failure, I’d buy another one tomorrow
Merry Christmas to you and your family too Clifford. The dump trailer is 72” x 12’. 10,000 gross weight. Be sure and find a dealer that will provide you with maintenance and warranty follow through when needed. Thanks for subscribing I really appreciate that.
Hello Robert, I got lucky and found this one for sale on a government surplus auction site. I know they sell new ones online, just google top dressing equipment and you’ll find a wide variety although they’re a little pricey. Have a great Labor Day weekend.
I’m guessing this works with sand as well. Sand is an excellent leveling material for lawns too. Nice video. Your smaller JD might be the best tow rig for the spreader too since it’s a bit more nimble.
@@billburkhartyou should use a sand peat mixture. Holds enough water but also drains well, compost isn't good for your yard. It's way to much organic material that's only going to lead to even more thatch.. you would of been better off verticutting than aeration. This is coming from a superintendent. Golf courses are far different than home lawns hence why we aerate countless times during the year plus verticutting, we punch holes at varying depths, from 12 inches deep to 2 inches. We do this because If you punch holes at the same depth every time it leads to layering in the soil, this in turn leads to black layer, something no one wants
@chosen1one930 Interesting for sure. I am going to start aerating again in the next two weeks. I’ll take a hard look at your recommendations. Thanks so much for taking time to make me aware of your opinion. -Bill
The top dresser works great! Looks to be a good addition to your equipment. To what degree do you think it will level a lawn? Watching you from across the river in southern Fulton County in Illinois. Take care!
Hello Michael, I don’t think it would level the ground may have to try that someday with very dry soil or sand I guess...Happy holidays stay safe and healthy. Thanks for checking in
Hello ‘Tom happy Sunday. I must’ve been in a brain fog when I came up with the calculation, thanks so much for pointing that out to everyone, I’ll make that correction the next video. Have a good week.
