Got a old time baler that has just been sitting around collecting cobwebs on a neighbors' farm, so time to take it out and start the process of bring it back to life. Of course first thing anyone does with old piece of equipment is to run it once and see if it still works=)

I have had 3 24T's.I just got another one last week. Replacing a few bearings and guards and going to put it to work. They just keep on going. Good job on your baler. Thanks for showing it.

Followed a 24T for years picking up the bales. It was a reliable and strong piece of machinery.

Can you show what to do when plungerhead wobbles? We have the bridges, are there shims in back?

I agree with David Hahn on the paint, you should leave it original because it is in nice shape for its age and I like original a lot better than painted up. Get some teeth in the pickup and it will bale all you can load on a wagon by yourself. I know because I've loaded behind one and they are a very good baler when operating correctly.

My grandfather had one of these that I think he bought brand new. If my memory serves me right, I think I can remember hearing years ago that it was from the same year my father was born, which would be 1954. I left the farm quite some time ago, but this stuff is nostalgic to see. For as long as I can remember, ours was become well worn out, but they were able to keep patching it to run until maybe 10 or 15 years ago. Not only did it make loud compacting noises, but it would also shake the tractor and hay rack each time. Something in the PTO would also carry on when you would make a turn. But I'm not sure what finally broke that caused them to sell it. This one in your video seems to operate much smoother all around. These had a lot of charm. I like the fact you could see more of the mechanisms in older machinery before they started making guards to cover this and that.

Some oil would do wonders for your knotting issue.....cover baler from rain/etc. wouldn't hurt .......baled with a 14T for 50 years

Actually, after looking at a 14T, I stand corrected. It was the 14T that we had, not the 24T.

We had a 24T for years and it provided us with good reliable service. Replaced it with a 347 and happy with that. Keep it painted and greased and it might go forever. Bare metal isn't good on anything.

I just resurrected a 14T. I almost have a completely working. I have a little bit more work to do on the left knotter. For some reason it is not wiping the knot.

Nice project to do. In the day they were the best balers. I wore out 2 of them.

Looks just like our 24T, same late model. It looks to have been kept inside most of its life and the inside of it's chute looks to have had some damp hay stored in there at one time. They were made from 1963-1972 and with the pickup you have, it is later model. Not sure what year they switched to that style pickup. Personally, I would leave the paint alone, it is in great shape for its age and gives it originality.

I spent many a day behind a 24T baler. Its a character builder, muscles too.
