John Deere 35D Excavator: Replacing Hydraulic Oil & Filters / Coolant Drain & Fill

In this video I bring you along as I service out a new to me 2012 John Deere 35D Excavator. In this video I replace all three hydraulic filters as well as all the hydraulic oil. I also service the cooling system by draining and refilling the coolant. This is also the last thing I have to do before going out and using the machine for the first time.
-Enjoy!

Free tip Friday. If anyone ever has to pour from a bucket like Eric did, put the spout at the top (12 o'clock) and it won't chug like that and it will come out smooth. It feels unnatural to have it like that, but it works. It's a little more challenging to get the initial liquid into the hole if smaller, but once you do it is great and much faster.
@bluegrallis

I have seen this printed on the lids of buckets before(with an image) and the guy still cusses cause the oil glugs out 😏

Yeah, notice he’s got the spout at about 10 o’clock and once the fluid level got to there it stopped glugging. Bit easier to aim starting at 10 and it didn’t glug too much

The previous owner may have bought that hydraulic filters and all the other service parts when he bought the machine back in 2012 and stored them until he got to 2000hrs but changed the engine oil and filters more often than the hydraulic filters maybe.

Hi, Mr. O. The main takeaway I got from this is that I respect John Deere more than before. I had seen some bad press. I think that the John Deere designs are better than average. I can see why the company suggests that people use John Deer parts. Any company would do that of course, but I see some justification here. I hope, without any justification, that John Deere is not gouging its customers. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!

Great video. Just and FYI. The leftover hydraulic fluid left in the bucket. Get rid of it. Where I work we have critical hydraulics and the manufacture of the hydraulic components warns us on using hydraulic fluid that has been exposed to the elements and stored. They recommend either not filling until you use the entire contents or dispose of any fluid that is remaining in the container. I am not sure the sensitivity of the hydraulic components of a John Deere mini excavator, but might be safe than sorry. Just a Free Friday Tip. 😁✌

These are the things we do with every used purchase...go through and change all of the filters and fluids, inspect and lube as needed. Original factory filters ! More evidence the seller was full of hot air. I wouldn't bet on no sir, "is there anything you need to know" before using it since the seller has been wrong about much this far. I'd hope the seller was as loose with the sales price as he was with words about the service and maintenance cycles "he had performed".
@kevinoscarson2941
@kevinoscarson2941 Год назад
Suction filter is always like that, it was set up correctly. The factory glues the oring in, normally its a white glue. Normal service on the suction screen is 4000hrs, if oil sampling is used and Hyd oil is extended drain. 2000hrs on the main hyd filter or 1000hr if Hydraulic hammers are used.
@Graveltrucking
@Graveltrucking Год назад
I can only imagine Deere John branded hydraulic oil ain't cheap, our industrial parts store sells a rebranded Chevron AW46 I forget the cost per pail. The most important hydraulic filter is the pilot filter it can cause you a whole lot of ass aches. Its the only filter in the hydraulic system that is pressurized hence its in a bomb proof canister. Hydraulic oil contamination usually comes from attachments like rock hammers or brush mowers.

Refrain from calling the guy a liar right off, your proof is only proof that he purchased the filters in the year he purchased the machine as I did when I purchased my LT3800 and it was years before I reached my first service interval. The both the filters looks clean so why doubt that he did what he said? Be better than that is all I’m saying, God Bless and have a great day.

If it's not too late, while the machine is clean... take a wire wheel and go over the underside and clean up the rust, apply paint etc. The machine will then be just about as good as new and will pretty much stay that way .

So I wanted to have some coolant on hand for a Deere 3039R, just for topping off if needed. Checked the manual. It says use "Cool-Gard II" or "Cool-Gard II PG". Way below that it says "Avoid Damage! Don't mix ethylene glycol and propylene glycol coolants." Does the manual say what coolant the tractor comes with? Nope, cause that would be useful information. Call the dealer; after they CHECK, answer is "ethylene glycol". (BTW - these videos are very useful for that tractor as well. This are the first videos I've seen where someone actually recorded changing the fuel filters, re-priming the fuel system, etc. start to finish.)
