I occasionally worked for a neighbor as a teenager in late 70's & early 80's in the southern Red River Valley. We were a "red farm" but when I was hired out to help the neighbor (haha) I did like driving his 4840. He used it to pull a 40' press drill, which was huge in those days. I generally drove his 4840 at harvest pulling a grain cart which was ahead of the times. Great tractor!
Watching and listening to this brought back a flood of memories from my childhood. The “48” was our big tractor on the farm. I learned to drive on that thing. Spent MANY hours behind the wheel!!
Nice weather for getting things done. Made more hay and most of it went from the wagons onto trucks. The rest of the week not looking good for hay. I like that 4840.
you probably dont care at all but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any tricks you can give me
I used to ride on the toolbox next to my Dad. Our tractors didn’t have cabs. When I got older and my sister and I got bigger one would on the toolbox and the other on the back holding onto the seat. #supercleangiveaway. Great video!
Nice tractor does your buddy lives close by and is he also a dairyfarmer and you guys have Nice wheather thanks Mike have a good day greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Nice of you to help a neighbor out. My grandfather back in the day when he was farming did a little horse trading like you just did. Nice old iron there, made with American steel. How do you like your cordless impact? Does it have all the torque that you need? Have thought at different times of getting one.
i trick to help is shut the back windo and block the back of the side windos so the air goes in one side and out the other i find that helps to keep it cool anyways nice video :)
Just curious Mike ,not putting down your equipment or anything like that. But is those disc wings supposed to be that flexible and flopping around like that? I've only got experience with either small discs with no wings or the exact opposite ,really big ones like 32' with wings that are as big as the main section. Just seems like it should be quite a bit more rigid to me anyway. And again, if it's just wore out or something I apologize and I don't mean to pick your equipment apart or nothing like that!. I'm used to farming with wore out equipment lol. That's all we have ever had to use on my Dads farm so I know how it is lol. How did you like that big horse? When I graduated H.S. i went out to Texas that summer to work on a harvest crew and that was my tractor I ran pulling a 850 bushel A.L. grain cart with a 4840. I thought I was big shit after growing up using 50 - 60 hp open station tractors all my life. Spent a lot of time in it and put a hell of a bunch of hours on one. I liked it but again I didn't have much to compare to at that time anyway. 165 Massey and a 460 Farmall are little out of its league hahaha. Definitely could have used more gears for sure. Never got to run the newer 15 speed Deeres but they had to be a big improvement. Well thanks for another good video! Talk to you later.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video. The 4840 was cool to drive but I did miss the 4555. The 8 speed powershift wasn't as bad as I thought it would be
Farming Fixing & Fabricating, I wouldn't think so. The wings have no wheels and only go one way as I view video. And that's up and out of ground as I view it. However JD may have designed it that way. I'd be compelled to secure it ridgid. And JD would void any warranty. Oh well, such as it is.
Horsepower wise they are similar. Our 4555 is turned up to 200 pro horsepower. I like our 4555 better because the 4840 was a little too light in the front being a 2wd
Anyone who knows what they are looking at can tell that the disk is in the ground. If they were only in the ground and inch like you claim, then you would still see the tire tracks left by the tractor and disk
That was my 1st time running one of those and it wasn't as bad as I thought, however, I'd much rather have the quad range or 15 speed powershift. My buddy told me when shifting from 7th to 8th to definitely use the clutch or it will throw me through the window
@@thehampsteadboys3713 Our 4055 and 4555 have the 15 speed. I like them. Did you mean 4440? The 50 series was the 1st series to come out with the 15 speed powershift so the 4450 would have had it
@@mikep7810 sorry it had a quad range. I'm 14 and my dad bought our 4455 the day I was born and he was looking at a 4450 before. Guess I must of not been listening when he was telling me about the 4450
@@thehampsteadboys3713 You don't have to be sorry. I was just curious. The quad ranges aren't bad transmissions. My dad is looking for one now with a quad range
