Nothing like the sound of the 5020! My Grandfather had 3 of them on the farm in the early 70's. They were all dueled out. I remember pulling 3 shanked JD subsoilers with one when I was around 12 years old. He was one of the first farmers in the area to a tractor that big, and I remember people parking on the road and the turnrow "headland" just to watch them. Tractors, trucks, cars, music, everything was a lot cooler in the 70's! Thanks for the great videos! Thomas, Mississippi!!!
When I was a kid we had to take our 4010 to the dealer for service. They had a new 5020 on the lot. I climbed up there and that hood looked like it was 20 feet long. I'll never forget how massive that tractor seemed. Never got to drive one.
All these machines running good, some folks turn plowing into a silly high speed race ( makes a mess and usually smashes equipment) so proper plowing there fellas good job and thanks for a nice video
The 4620 has 404 c.i. block like a 4020 . The 4620 has a turbo and intercooler bigger fuel pump , transmission and final drive , front end . It is a beast compared to a 4020 . The 5020 has a improved 531 c.i. , the block has more metal between the cylinder sleeve . Massive two wheel drive tractor , PERIOD . " You can always tell a good farmer by the color of his GREEN TRACTORS WITH YELLOW WHEELS " !!!!!
4620 a great strong tractor but can't help but notice the 5020 stepping along with minimal effort due to it's big time weight and sturdy build both great tractors but the old adage that it takes weight to pull weight is obvious with the big 5020,great video guys
@@Deandeere4020 I plowed my entire childhood and young adulthood with in-furrow plows and tire in furrow....until the past couple years of watching some youtube videos, yours being one, I never knew you could even plow with both duals on while mating with an in-furrow plow...do adjust the right 3pt arm to go lower so it tips the plow?
Remember plowing in the fall. If the frost made the ground hard, hitch up a second tractor. The land gulls would come in behind the plow to harvest the worms. The plan was to plow in the fall, disc in the spring and spring tooth and drag before planting.
That 5020 runs along nicely with that 7 16’s plow. We had 2 4 14’s . A pull type that I pulled with my 720 diesel and a 4 14’s I H semi mounted that my Dad pulled with his 2520 John Deere diesel. I still have the 2520. I wish I would have hung on to my 720 diesel. It is still in the area but it needs way too much work. Even if they gave it to me, it needs tires all the way around. The 3 point hitch has been canabalized. It is an electric start version and needs new batteries and a new battery box. The seat needs the cushions redone and all new bushings. Needs new grill screens. Paint isn’t bad on it but does need some touching up. Needs a new muffler and possibly manifold work. I sold it on the farm sale in 86 and all it needed then was new rears. They were getting down there. Loved watching the old 5020 strutting her stuff. Always drawn to those beasts. Never had one one around here. The closest one I was aware of was 30 miles away and the 1 st tractor I ever saw run triples. Thanks for sharing
I just found out today John Deere is discontinuing to manufacture the mold board plow. Melancholy day for the company built on by the moldboard plow. It was great watching yours in action. I have a 4 bottom and 2 bottom John Deere plows myself. I pull one with a 3020 and the 2 bottom with the 60. I just might have to plow a few acres more just because....
I was watching this thinking too many bottoms for the 4620, then looked up the specs and found that the 5020 only has 10 hp over the 4620, but the 5020 was heavier..
@@Deandeere4020 Farmers overloaded the tractors, no matter what, you are limited by slippage. The 44 series came out in 73, blowed the dry clutch tractors off the map.
I was talking to my brother about a month ago. One of things he mentioned was that he had been thinking about growing up on the farm and decided the only thing he liked about it was plowing.
Why is the 4620 running in the furrow with a dual? The plow is capable of using the onland hitch if it was setup correctly. Too much slippage because the right side is on loose soil. I had 6 bottom and a 10 bottom plow when I farmed in the 70s.
Plowing almost as much ground as the 5020 the 4620 is taking it to the house!! If she was properly weighted the 5020 would have it's hands full!! Nothing like a 404 with a windmill!!!
@@Deandeere4020 copy that looked like he was just getting that plow shined up .I have a 5020 1966 model, pulls 6-16s real nice. Between me and my cousin we have 4-6 bottoms and 4-5 bottoms all 1350-1450 really good plows.
Like the video, but too much plow for those John Deeres. If you dropped them to 5 bottom plows and put them in the ground a little more, you would be doing a much better plowing job. A 4620 and a 5020 are not 6 and 7 bottom plow tractors.
seeing the job your doing....leaving unfilled furrows and the lack of caring what your doing is really bad....please never make a video of how bad you farm please!!!!
Calm down guy. That was a neighbor the first time with this tractor and plow obviously needs more practice. If u watch any of our other videos this is not how we usually do it. If you don't want to look I don't care
Typical John Deere guys........horrible plowing job. What kind of tractor guy comes in with duals when he has too much plow on to begin with when he should be in the furrow (4620) and the 5020 has two bottoms too many. They are barely scratching the surface! However, looks like very nice soil!
The guy on the 46 we told didn’t need the dual but he never used this plow before and didn’t listen. The 5020 was doing just fine. If u don’t like the content find something else to watch
