Got stuck a few times. Those were the only time Dad would ever really make it earn its keep. They don't make them like they used to...
That is not a Mack 6X6.. It is an M543 military wrecker. It is powered by a continental multi fuel 6 cylinder diesel and has a five speed spicer trans and a spicer two speed transfer case.
@@RJ1999x 1959-60, what did Allis have? Let's see, not rolling coal, starts out without going to full throttle. I don't know about the amount of weight here but it is a lot. It likely has the 1st gear from an 840 scraper tractor. Did AC do what Deere did with a farm tractor in 1960? I knew of a yellow1963 D21 that pulled a Hancock Scraper all ordered new from the dealer. Same size scraper used behind the 840 with the differences being direct mount versus trailing. Big difference in weight on the rear tires to be sure and the 21 would be faster. But drastic differences in power moving the same amount of dirt.
That one has apparently had some engine work done to it as there are many things you can do to any engine. My 1949 DC Case has 497 cid and is an impressive tractor its self!
LOL! I love the comment by Richard that the 560 might put up a fight. A 560 at idle could maybe crush beer cans lined up in single file. 😄 no harsh feelings on Farmalls. I'd love to own one!
Purple Space Cow Studios I'm not going to defend a 560 I think that's an awful tractor, but the 2 cylinder John Deere is more myth than reality, so I tend to agree with him. I know for a fact that a 720 diesel making 74 hp on a Dyno , looks like a fool in the same field with a D17 Allis Chalmers
I had to Google this tractor because I never heard a tractor engine sound like that so I was curious about the powerplant. So I see it is a big twin cyd. diesel of 472ci, made for low RPM and a shitload of torque. Interesting. I wonder if any other manufactor makes a simular engine

I have pictures of an 820 loaded with 28000 lbs of weights. It was unbeatable in unlimited weight class from 1957 to 1964 at wayne county ohio fair. The unlimited class was suspended because it was getting out of control with horsepower and speed. But is sure pleasure watching those big 2 cylinders work.
I think they were referring to the truck rating, and I don't think thats a mack either. The 5 ton trucks the military used were at mininum 20,000 lbs depending on their configuration.
That is a Mack 6x6. It has a 235 hp Mack engine in it and the truck was built by Mack to goverment specs. The multi fuel engines that were used in other trucks were made by white/Hercules not continental.
