We used to mold board plow everything back in the 70,s. The Glencoe soil saver deserves credit for changing a lot of us over to chisel plowing

Used a Case 930 Wheatland pulling an Oliver 5-16 “can’t remember the model number early to late 70’s on my uncle’s farm. Things change, technology and the science of farming don’t dictate as much tillage. Glad to see some of the old, with the new. Thanks for another great video BTP

I use to farm, and I fall ploughed corn stalks which was so much fun back in the 1980s. I ploughed with a Joh Deere 4040 and an IH 720 4-18 plow. This was near a small town of Mount Brydges, Ontario, Canada. I could only plough 6 inches deep. Any deeper, and I be turning up yellow subsoil. I envy farmers in central Illinois because they can plough a foot deep. There is far less worry about ploughing up sub soil and you dont have to have your hand on the 3-point hitch lever so much.

Here it's either plowing or subdoiling for the spring crops (soybeans,corn,sorghum, sunflowers,or peas) and about the tractor i saw few used with grain carts or big tankers with water for the sprayers or to operate the Perard Trans Express as the farm that has the tractors is far so they use tipper truck to cart fertilizer,they empty them in the Perard and from that it goes into grain carts that go from the road to the fields

Very cool to see some new iron with a twist of old. Plowing is almost an art, getting that furrow straight, seeing the different soil types turn over, it’s almost therapeutic lol. We don’t plow often any more but it is enjoyable from time to time.

That's the power of the straight pipe on there. You wouldn't get that kind of performance from a normal muffler. It's all to do with the straight pipe. As someone once said.

I love seeing a moldboard plow still in action! Even better seeing a new age tractor set up like the days of old. Plowing is one of the best ways to speed up decay, kill bugs, and air out soil for diseases but most farmers won’t do it because of the time and fuel involved.

Drove a 4850 MFWD ( with a 5" straight pipe, chrome ) and pulled a 2810 6-20 and had one on land plow. We done all the cotton ground and double disked the bean & wheat ground . A lot of long hours back in the day and lived to talk about it .

Glad to see a grain farmer still using the moldboard plow. Nobody here owns a plow any more. Cut them up for scrap iron.

It was great feeling to plow, the last we did was with 8 bottom on land very width. That was a dream keeping the furrow straight. The smell from the dirt was unique and plow at night with the moon full, turn lights off and dream of the good days..

Here in central Ky we usually plow about 8 to 10 inches deep. In some areas we have hard red clay and it will really make your tractor work turning it over. I really like plowing in good soil.. I enjoy your video.

My last plow was an IH 720 4x18” and a turboed JD 4040. When plows finally reached perfection, like the 720, we parked them! If you could drive a tractor through it, the 720 would cut and cover it......nonstop!!

I like doing any kind of field workBut my favorite job has got to be moldboard plow in! I don’t know what it is it’s just something great about turning over the dirt! That’s beautiful rich soil with no stones, so awesome.

We have planted corn on corn for years....Popcorn in Indiana...We always plow and use Red tractors with JD plows.....

Great video. I guess the beautiful black dirt is harder than I thought. For years pulled a 5 bottom 16" plow with a 7210 in clay buried to the beem. Really would've thought that tractor would handle a bigger plow.

Seems funny to see a tractor that new plowing. Since you asked BTP, we still till this way. Usually get a “soil expert” commenter when I put a video up, lecturing on what a terrible tillage method it is....😂

We use a 2004 John Deere 8520 with no duals with a 1997 John Deere A2800 8x20 Moldboard Plow for corn on corn in MN.

We have four tractor. Two of which have regular 5 and 7 shank rippers. We did 300 acres this year with this tractor on our farm and we had a 5 bottom on a 6140 going alongside with my father this year.

I think everyone would plow if people had the patience for it. I spent many hours in the seat of a Farmall MTA with a 2 bottom plow. My dad said he was "amazed how much we got done in a day". Makes my laugh now thinking about it. I guess compared to a team of mules it appeared we really doing something.

Michael Murray it really varies depending on your ground. I moldboard plow in the fall and pull a chisel plow in the spring.

This field appears to be table top flat thus minimizing the impact that erosion would have over the winter. Most most Midwest corn fields would suffer excessive erosion and the ends would not justify the means. Plowing a field this way also requires a LOT of fuel and an extra tillage pass in the spring. I'm not sure the benefit gained from plowing would offset this added expense in years when the price of fuel is much higher than now and grain prices depressed.

It all depends on the crops. In corn on corn it would be corn 20, plow 20, corn 21, chisel plow 21, soybeans 22, chisel plow 22, plant corn 23, plow 23, plant corn 24 etc....

That c-20 is a wonderful plow, I have a few of them. I always leave an acre or two in the fall to get them out and have a little fun with the super c and 200.

Couple of questions... First why is a 235 hp tractor doing with a non reversible plow...? The tractor could easily pull it... Plus he wouldn't have all those ditches when the two part of the plowed land get near... And Second... Why is plowing not used anymore? I was told something about soil erosion or something.. How is ripping or whatever a farmer does not the same with this? Thanks for your great work my friend.. Always entertaining! Cheers from a Greek farmer!!

Well typically reversible plows aren't very common in the usa and this operation typically doesn't occur every year on every acre of ground so for a farmer to make an investment into one wouldn't be worth if for doing 20 acres a year

Tractors from 1960 to about 2020 were marketed on pto horse power. In the 1940’s and 1950’s they were marketed on belt horse power. Today engine votes power has become standard.

Ground in our fields is too tough to do that. Our tractor did fine working it in this video but it’s a lot tougher than it looks.

We do that still to this day. We believe in moldboard plowing. And some of big farmers that did chisel plowing are going back to this practice because of trash, weeds, and disease.

A lot of sub soil compaction and destruction of "soil health". This is why the soil is dead. Regenerative farming and less disturbance of the soil.

Worst plow ever. Nothing but a land wrecker. Now they can spend the next week trying to level the field back out and half the corn stalks are still on top
