Got a service call on a John Deere 9460R that the customer says when he puts it into gear it will not move and it will kill the engine. In this video, I will perform diagnostics on this tractor and repair it to get it moving again. This one is quite interesting and had me puzzled.

Some days I miss turning wrenches and then my back and my knees remind me that I don't. Your videos bring me back to what I loved about some of my previous jobs; the troubleshooting, methodical dissection and reassembly during the repair and the satisfaction of bringing something back to life. You're doing a great job and I thank you for that!

#1, anyone who puts around $500k in a machine should know to check fluid levels at least weekly. #2, JD diagnostics seem to be very vague in actually diagnosing the problem. #3, the engineers who design equipment don't operate nor maintain what they design, let alone do service on their product. If they did have to turn the wrenches, I bet they would do a better job. Manufacturer shouldn't hire anyone who isn't willing to work on what they design. You Service Tech's have your work cut out for you. Great video!

You are 100% correct Zeth, that as a tech I found that everyday was a learning day, but also outside of work, I also treated my whole life the same way that you never stop learning about life! Amazing how many people don't think that way. Thanks for a great video.

Does Deere not realize what a POS the 9R is? I am a die hard Deere customer. I own all Deere row crop tractors and they are hands down better than the competition. Last year however, after several major breakdowns on my 9s, I bought a 580 steiger. Everything about that tractor is better than my green ones. Why they felt the need to over complicate those tractors so much is beyond me.

Seth I have been with Deere for 23 years I am as you a master tech and also a field tech, I have seen this two times on 9560RT’s , it is an internal transmission problem. The two I had had were both tractors at around 250 hours, we had to get them into the shop, at that point DTAC had me installing DR’s in all of the transmission ports running tests, tests and more tests. Turned out because these tractors were so new with so little hours they had use remove the transmissions, they sent us new transmissions, and wanted the failed ones shipped back immediately. Now here’s the thing Deere never told us what had failed in the two transmissions..

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Well, that was a learning experience for sure. Glad you knew were to look or what to test and all that. I was totally in the dark on this one. Had no idea of where to look or even ask for help. Oh boy. I still am somewhat confused on this clutch issue but followed you on some of the tests and your descriptions of what was wrong and parts needed and all that. My compliments to you ZK. You knew what to follow to check things out and what to look at. Techs like yourself need a pat on the back for figuring it out. I had no idea. Just following you-ha!!! If I said I totally understand what you did to fix the trans , then I am not being truthful. Follow you on the basics but about it. With the technology now days, techs like yourself have so much on your plate to figure some of these issues out. Wow. Nice job ZK figuring this one out. Huge learning experience here. Thanks for everything ZK. I am still scratching my head-ha!!!!! The Iowa Farm Boy.

I retired from a coal fired steam plant and there was nothing I loved better than putting my mind inside those steam turbine/generators or into the boilers to try and understand why everyone was living through some difficult times. And it could be very difficult at times. Oil controls, electrical controls and air-operated controls and many times those different systems were working in concert.

I had a new holland t9 last year that had a faulty gear shift solenoid, would stall it out out in a few gears because it was trying to engage multiple gears at once. It did this to the point it burnt out the clutch Pack. We rebuilt the trans and it still had issues, it was only then that we found the faulty solenoid. A $200 solenoid was enough to cause a week long transmission rebuild.
