You can program the button you use to raise the head (1,2,or3) to lower and slide back the reel to bump the beans onto the belt as the head raises so no piles at the end. There are so many little set up/ button programming tricks you can do with the reel and hydo flex it will blow your mind. Once you know it, it’s easy.

Cole, I’m really glad you had two combines available because you were able to keep going with the Deere after the Case broke down. It’s really interesting to hear your initial impressions of the Deere - I’m grateful to the equipment dealer for letting you demo the combine so we can see what it’s capable of doing.

Nice honest first impression on the S790 Cole even though it is 6 years newer. Seems like your getting the hang of the John Deere settings and Kudos to Chet Larson for the help for sure. You can clearly see the Beans popping over the head in today's video, I'm sure that's why The Larsons run the Crary Air bars on both of their combines ..... Saves a bunch of header loss for sure. It really is great that Van Wall has set you guys up to try and compare the Red vs Green on your farm. As always Thank You for bringing us along on your Journeys, See you tomorrow hopefully!

Again, it is so nice that you have each other to keep the farm running. While Cooper works on one, to get it back in the field, Cole is out there knocking out the beans. Nothing is stopped or lost. I think of the John Deere and the Case like Ford and Chevy. They are both the best there is, and each one has something better than the other. Just need to choose what works best for your needs.

Hi Cole , glad to see you are getting a chance to run a Deere Combine. If you want to have a different layout on your main screen, you can select the Main menu button (lower right green squares) and select Layout Manager, then you can choose what you want on your Run Pages. Some are Preset from the factory, but you can create your own custom ones from many of the features. The program will give you different sizes of the boxes you can choose from to build up your Run Page. And you can also move them around to suit what you want. Don’t be afraid to have a play with it. You can also touch on some of the boxes on the display, and they will open up to show even more information. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time with it. And yes, a Crary wind system is a must for what you guys harvest. Good luck with the rest of your harvest, from Australia. 👌👍🙂

What I see in this area of SW Kansas is that the farmers who are either green or red and no in between, they are more rigid in their farming methods. They stay with what is familiar and don't want to mess with crossover info. Other farmers tend to find the fit that works best for each task. If the service is about the same in regards to repair and diagnostics capability they don't care about the color but what best serves their operation. Great video!

Hey Cole, Thanks for the thorough walkthrough! We run a MacDon draper, which is basically identical to your Case. You can adjust the draper belt speed using the little lever on the head's main hydraulic block just to the left of the feeder house. There's a little access panel you can flip up.

This is fascinating. When you're comparing these, don't forget to take into account the six additional years of technological development on the JD. If you had a 2020 Case it might also do things the 2014 Case doesn't. I'd also add that you added the LED lights to the Case, so it would presumably be pretty easy to upgrade all the JD lights to LEDs as well. What you ARE certainly proving is the worth of the Crary air bar.

I had the amazing fun of a corn field fire in Lake Benton Minnesota yesterday. I ran out of fire extinguisher fluid and had to tap dance in a 30 mile an hour wind trying to keep the fire from the main field. I called the fire department when I started tap dancing fortunately they got here before it burnt the main field. They had a disassembled brand new Wind Tower in the middle of my field I was really worried it would catch $3 million dollars worth of Wind Tower blades and nacelle on fire. The fire was caused by an alternator which had a failed bearing. On Windy days it might be better to combine on the downwind side of the field

There are a few you tube farmers that do machinery justice, not a blind faith to one colour. With the JD on the farm I would have thought the local Case dealer would be falling over themselves to have the case combine fixed. I have mentioned before, a few factors for choosing a colour of machinery; Price, resale value, reliability, (perceived and actual reliability). The crunch comes down to the dealer, spare parts, spare machines and quick to react. Often the main factor of equipment is what father had.

I know the 790 is a lot newer, but it’s also not a lot different than the 690 which would have been current at the time of their red combine. I think what we are seeing though are the little things that John Deere has always done right. Little things like cup holders are nice, but ergonomics, heavy duty design, technology, etc always seem to be a step ahead on Deere. At least until Fendt came on the scene. Deere developed ROPS, sound guard cabs, narrow tapered hoods, and this was all done in the 1970s.

I wouldn't imagine that in terms of console controls that a 2020 S-series would be much different than a 14... just going off of running two 2012 RTs and a 2018 RT. Asthetics are a little different and it the controls in the 18 might be slightly more intuitive but almost all of the same console functions exist in both. Deere is way ahead of the all the competition in terms of cab layout and simplifying controls. The upgrades between a 14 S series and 2020 I would imagine come more in the shape of mechanical upgrades.
