In part 3 of my John Deere STX46 project, i had bought the wrong ignition switch and almost burned it to the ground with a short circuit, I ordered a new switch with the correct connecting letters to the prongs. I removed the carburetor to see it was too far gone to fox, so I have ordered a new CARBURETOR. There was no fuel flow from the gas tank, so I removed the whole system to find the fuel lines were old, crimped and brittle. I drained and cleaned the gas tank, replaced the fuel filter and gas lines. I repaired the safety switch wire leading to the magneto that was chewed up by the rats. I cleaned the magnet contact points of the flywheel. I now await the new carburetor, ignition switch and magneto. Stay tuned for part 4 of this project.

Finally see someone with a video on the exact mower I have. Question maybe you could point me in the right direction with.....i have a stx46 with a no-start. Was running perfectly, shut it down it in the garage for a couple days, try to start and no start/no spark. Lots of tinkering later and i have a new carb (old was needed replaced anyway), new coil, gas, clean air filter. Still no spark. Remove the ground wire off the coil and best it does is a couple spudders, just enough to kick thebstarter bendix down, but thats it. Any thoughts on where i go next?

Sounds like a safety switch issue causing your no start, or even though you’re getting spark from taking off the coil wire, it spiders with a new carb on, sounds like timings off, check flywheel key isn’t sheared slightly
