Forgive the dialogue... Fighting a cold, and making this took a lot out of me. But anyway, here is a look at the first 50 hour maintenance required for the John Deere X580/84/90 & kinda 570... Tuff Torq K72 fluid/filter change, and grease point lubrication.

Thanks Josh. I just completed my 50 Hr. service maintenance on my X584. Your RU-vid was very helpful. Like you, I also made a mess filling the transmission reservoir. I should have kept the oil pan in place while filling. I had to siphon out some excess. You would think for the price of the machine JD would supply some sort of workable funnel that can be used to easily and accurately fill the reservoir. In my case, it was made more complicated by also having the rear bagger system installed. I will add a longer tube to the funnel. Thanks again, I've seen most of your videos at least twice. Great job.

Great video. I also take mower deck off. We're doing major scheduled maintenance steps anyway. Good time to scrape crud and power wash underbelly and sharpen or replace blades.

I used to do the tire wiggle and tug when removing deck. Now I simply put a jack under the front end guard and raise it up a couple of inches and it slides right out.

Have to agree with the others and say great video! I was a little reluctant on doing the service myself but after watching your video was confident. I have an X584 and 50 hour maintenance when smooth...even filling the reservoir. That filter isn't cheap! Thanks again and keep up the good work!!

Nicely done, I have a old X534 that I bought from my Brother-in law. I changed the Transaxle fluid and filter 2 years ago. I don't remember it taking that much fluid but it may have, I do remember what a pain it was to get the fluid in. Seemed like I made something to help with that. I'll have to check to see if I can find it. These big JD are a real beast!

They are a beast! I was surprised at how well I could pull my ripper through the ground, and move gravel around with the box blade!

Thank you for your video I watched four maybe five videos explaining how to change the fluid the hydraulic fluid in the in the transaxle yours is the best by far you are the only one that ever said that your fluid level dropped down to add and you thought you had a leak but you didn't mine did the same thing recently at 29 hours I added 4 oz of hydraulic fluid the high Guard from John Deere and when we was done cutting grass it went above the max level just like you said everything's heated up and it takes up more space when things are heated thank you for your video keep the good work up take care PS the difference between the 580 the 584 and the 590 that's the X 580 584 and 590 the 584 is four wheel steering that's the only difference just like the 590 it's fuel injected instead of carburetor take care looking forward to more videos

To get more fluid out I would think of you make sure both hydraulic cylinders are retracted before removing the drain plugs more fluid would be in the tank. For the steering turn wheels to the left. Don't remember which way for the deck cylinder. Just a thought.

I used a new but scrapped garden hose to funnel the oil and a bar clamp to take the kink out…..still learned the hard way to have a plan for the mess that you’ll make.

Over 30 years ago an auto technician showed me to always wipe off the grease fittings like that. That dirt and whatever on the end gets pumped into the joint and/or bearings, if you don't ,causing extra wear and early failure.

On John Deere’s website the specifications for the transaxle type for both the X570 and X580 is the same, which is the “K72 hydrostatic integrated with transaxle”. It makes no sense that the X570 would not have a filter and only has a plug. I’ll have to do more research on this. I haven’t bought anything yet but have just been checking out reviews and any videos to find out as much as i can before buying. Great video and thanks for sharing.
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage Год назад
Look into K72A/B/C. If I remember correctly the operator manual for the X500s lists this, and the X570 has a different letter at the end. It’s due to the 570 not having hydro lift or steering.

Did some digging, you have to go to the parts catalog and if you search 570, 580, and 584. Click on group 50, which is powertrain, then click on Transaxle. There are 2, but find the one that is just the full trans, not exploded view. Then, click on the transaxle on the parts list. It will open a screen with just that part. In the description you will see K72A/B/C... A is for 580/90, B is for 570, C is the 4WS transaxle for the 584. You will notice the 570 doesn't show a filter on the exploded image if you click that one. As I said, it is due to no extra hydraulics, so it doesn't need filtered before going anywhere. Could you put one in a B model? Maybe, but it likely wouldn't do anything as there is probably a fitting it mates to to send to the SCV or the steering gear on a 580/84/90 that the 570 just wouldn't have. Hopefully this helps.

Great video! You show how easy it is to do the 50 hour service. And thanks for the tip about adding the plastic tubing to the funnel. I may secure the tube to the tractor to keep it from slipping out while it is being filled. Given the chance, it is just my luck that it would if it could. I noticed that you skipped the grease fittings on top of the three spindles. Was that intentional for some reason? Also, while it is beyond the scope of the 50 hour service that this video covers, this is a good time to scrape and clean the underside of the deck followed by a thorough spray treatment of teflon or silicone spray.
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage Год назад
I likely do the spindles in a different video. I didn’t do it in this video because I want to say they are every 25 hours or something, probably wasn’t under the section for first 50 hours. They are super easy to get to and grease though. You could scrape the deck if that is your thing, I don’t spray anything on mine, but usually unless I know I mowed wet grass, I just wait until end of the season to scrape it… with a plastic scraper!

This was helpful when I changed the dif oil on my x590 today. Thanks for making it. I didn't see any torque specs in the manual for the drain plugs.. I'm guessing you didn't see that either or I have a feeling you would've mentioned it.
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage 3 года назад
I would have, I don’t recall seeing anything. I was just careful with it, aluminum case, so put it in with a 1/4” socket wrench, and only tightened it with my fingers around the head so as to not torque it too much.

Subscribed. Interesting. I have an X350. I have a hydrostatic but it doesn't appear as fancy as this one. No white reservoir. Manual was the standard one that spanned 200-700 series in a million languages. Never seen an X3** series trans change. Since you've had a 100,500 and 700 series did you perform a trans service before you sold it? I realize the 100 and 300 are different. I realize you used the JD lithium grease on this...any success with a particular grease gun? Alot of junk out there. Thanks.
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage 2 года назад
No, the 100 series isn’t supposed to be serviceable, so didn’t do that… the 350 has the K46 I believe, should be serviceable, and I don’t think any filter to mess with, so should be easy drain and fill. As for grease guns I have a few different ones, but I just get them at auto part stores. Nothing fancy

Forrest me if I’m wrong but it looks like you can pull the trans filter without taking the drain plugs out

Josh, I put new blade spindles and a new belt on yesterday. After almost finishing my acre and a half the belt snapped. Nothing got up under the deck and the grass was not too high. Is it possible the problem is that I did not get the right pulley's in the right position? I cannot think of any other thing that may have caused this. Thank You!
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage Год назад
Did you use a Deere brand belt? If you used just a plain rubber one that is likely why. I’d imagine you got the spindle at the dealer, so I’d hope that isn’t the problem. Check them for burrs though that could have damaged the belt to the point of it breaking. If that isn’t the case for either, not sure what the problem could be… maybe a bad belt? Maybe you could get them to replace it since it only lasted one mow.

How do you keep the undercarriage so clean?
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage 5 месяцев назад
My yard was well established with pretty lush grass, no dust or mess would t normally be kicked up, and I always blew the whole machine off with compressed air when done mowing.
@bosn5429
@bosn5429 Год назад
Trust me, the grease fittings on the spindles need to be lubricated. Otherwise, you will be replacing them sooner than you need to.

Can this be completed without dropping the deck? Looks like it is close but do able.
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage 3 года назад
It can be 100% on a model without the filter. On models like this one with the filter, the pully on the center of the deck may interfere with removal. It may work, but I wouldn't want to get that far and then find out it won't.
@tomscheelke7731
@tomscheelke7731 2 года назад
Confirmed the X580 does not have to have the deck removed to replace the filter. Lower the deck to the lowest point and the filter is easily removed. I put my tractor on ramps on the ground to give more clearance. No problem getting to the filter.

Which engine oil will you be using?
@JoshsGreenGarage

10W-30 for the engine, but this video is for transaxle, which used low viscosity hy-gard, not a dual rated oil

I am thinking of purchasing a x580. Once I reach 50 hrs on the machine, how many qts do you recommend on the transaxle fluid change? 5?
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage Год назад
Reviewing my video it seems the manual called for 5.6qts. You need to do that ever the manual says. I don’t have the machine any longer, so without finding a manual online I can’t say the amount, other than what I did in the video. I would put 4.5 in, then slowly add and keep an eye on the reservoir to make sure it doesn’t overflow. Keep adding until it reaches the full mark. Run the machine some, check again and top off as needed. It will likely purge some air and need topped off.
@DH-mf2lv

Josh, why did you sell and what did you replace it with?
@JoshsGreenGarage
@JoshsGreenGarage Год назад
Well I got rid of my four wheeler which I had previously been using to clear snow. I wanted something that could clear snow, I wanted 4wd, and the rear lift on the X500 series was kinda pathetic after I got some use under my belt... Clear choice was the X758, and I don't regret it a bit.
