This is a short tour of my 2012 John Deere X728 lawn tractor after 260 hours of use. It is a selectable 4 x 4, hydrostatic driven machine with a 27 hp Kawasaki liquid cooled engine. This machine will do any job that is shoved its way in its class.

This is one tough tractor. Mine had 405 hours on it as a 2011 when I got it. It was used on a farm and had some scratches and tire wear but overall was in good shape. Yours is in very good shape and would hang on to it! I put an aftermarket 60" plow blade on it and it plows like a beast with no added weights, although I may add a rear box for weights this next winter to help it out. I did add a receiver hitch and that works like a champ. I would use some Sea Foam in the fuel to keep things cleaned up in the carb or other good fuel additive. I mow on a fairly steep angle but go slow and it handles the slope pretty easily. You're right tho, going up and down is a safer way to mow. Very nice unit you got there, I like the side shifter too. Cheers!

Hey thanks for the view and comment. Yea I really like this machine. It is seeing more use than just lawn care. They are built rock solid. Please check back for more in the future.

Great overview video! I've got a 2007 X728 that I bought 4 years ago at ~415 hours. I wasn't sure of the maintenance history when I bought it, so I did a full fluid change, including the transaxle fluid, and have stayed on top of the annual maintenance checklist (spark plugs, oil, filters, etc..). Like you said, maintenance is key to keeping a awesome machines running strong for years and years. Since I bought it, I've added another 200+ hours and actually just bought a pre-owned 45 Loader (2011) earlier this summer that is a direct bolt-on for the X728. The loader has been the best investment I've made since the tractor, and has saved my back countless times already. I, too, have a 54" snow blade, but my tractor came with the quick attach mount, which makes it a breeze to take on and off. Question: Have you had any problems with your parking brake "sticking" and being a pain to disengage? I always have to fight with mine, but they could have fixed that between the years that ours were manufactured.

Thanks for tje view and the comment. Yes these X series machines are work horses. I have worked mine hard this year with lots of mowing and pulling a trailer and such.

Just saw this post. I have this tractor too, and YES! I have a problem with the parking brake refusing to disengage. I’ve asked to have it checked a couple times when it goes in for maintenance, but no one has found the problem. Let me know if you found out why.

First off let me say thank you for the view and comment. On the LH side of the mower at the front there is a bin that you pull out and rotate the bar forward. This will let the front of the deck drop. Next reach under the mower in front of the rear tires and disconnect the lift pins and driveshaft. I will try to get a video up up this.

I bought one too. Same story. Old guy bought it, used it a bit and returned it. No manual. Can you show me how to charge the battery? How to find the battery? I’m probably as old as your grandma, but I’m up for learning something new. I’m off to put on my plow, but the battery is not happy. I’ll subscribe so I can see if you have time to do that video.

Thank you sir for the view and question. I went out to the garage and shot a quick video on where the battery is and how to get to it. I will have it online later tonight.
