Ive been a self employed mechanic for over 20 years and I can relate to everything youre going through. A few years ago I sold my large business and started a very small shop . It worked for a little while then people found me again . Im learning to say no to people and not worrying if theyre disappointed when I cant or wont do as they demand . Much respect to you Wes.

Wes, As a 74 year man who was an OTR owner operator for over 30 years, I can tell you personally that burning the candle at both ends and sometimes in the middle, will make you an old man before your time. Just one thing I will say is nothing is more important than your family except for God. Always make time for family no matter how busy you are, even if it means letting something else go. It will work out. You and Eric O are my favorite channels. I hardly ever post online, but just wanted you to know how much an old man enjoys your videos. Thanks for all you do. God Bless!

Wes I owned a small trucking company and I can relate to every word you said. I burned the candle at both ends and in the middle. I finally was in major burnout mode so I sold my trucks and miscellaneous supplies gathered up my money and retired. The best thing I ever did. Your channel is the definition of an 'adventure'. Something dangerous, or hard, often uncomfortable, happening to somebody else. Keep up the good work! :)

I’ve been where you are, bud, I’ve had a time when my brain would shut down and I would just stare into nothing with everything going on around me and expecting my attention. I too was the “go to” guy and i didn’t want to let my customers down. That said, I am now retired at 70, I have made many people/customers “happy” over the years to the point that I get no phone calls from any of those customers now just wanting to see how I am and showing appreciation. What I took away from all this is that a customer’s “happiness” is only a temporary state of mind. They will forget you as soon as they have no more use for you. Find your own pace that you can comfortably handle, enjoy your job that you excel at, take care of yourself and your family, and as another comment that you received already, increase your prices and strictly adhere to some sort of working hours. There is a chronic shortage of real mechanics/technicians and the demand for your abilities will increase. In the end, reward yourself and your family.

It's a shame this channel have only 250k subscribe, the quality of the content and the narrative you give us, deserves to be known by more people. Good luck!

Wes, I am a product of the early sixties when I actually knew what a tool was and how to use it. I started before, with the grease gun and somehow it snowballed into a life of wrenching for which I do not regret. In my final years of mechanicing, I had the similar problem of working 24/7 and a lanter was my pillow. Waking up from a nap under a truck or car and wondering how much stuff I did was wrong... starting off with the "check everything I did". I would reflect on in my first day of saying "I've had enough" so if I am going to bust my haunches, then its going to be my dollar and not build a business for someone else. I worked for a drunk who was paying sub standard and then missing pay days but always had a box of beer in front of him. I rolled up my boxes, went through some of his, and found the rest of my tools that were good tools. When it hit his foggy brain that I was serious, he says, "Yal never make it PAL!" but nonetheless, rolled up and left feeling all the sudden "Did I do the right thing" as it was scary times and no one had much work. I pulled into my own driveway which consisted of a trailer and a tarp over some poles to keep rain off of me while wrenching. I get out of my truck and greet my two buddies that were the love of my life.... my two dogs. I've told you this story before and none of it really changes except like yourself, wish I had done it sooner. My dogs are happy, daddy is home, they had my attention mostly, but this voice kept hollering Hey Morgan, can I talk to you. I go back to his rig and ask what he wanted, and it was Can you swap the engine out of my motorhome? Well cause nothing was really solid in life.. said yeah, I'll do it and promptly bid the dang job way way too cheap. God loved me that day as I found out the GMC motorhome was designed for a engine removal. Soon as I found that, I had that engine out in just about a hour or so.... it wasn't long, as it was much easier than a over the rad supports style. I had this job done so fast that the guy spread the rumor that "This guy is fast, good and doesn't charge a arm and leg... within a week, I had weeks of work setting in the yard!!!!! After that, it was no looking back except to say , why did I cheat myself out of the better dollars??? I apologize for poorly structured sentences and too long badly worded ways of saying that things have a way of working out. I for one would understand the "I quit" but buddy, I'd miss ya for sure. I went with this hospice thing to feel better but its just the same thing, I feel horrible but now I can't go to a hospital. I have to go to their place where they disperse meds and stuff and leave me feeling hopeless and helpless for ever getting past this pain. I will be seventy four in october and with the way things are going, I am going to cheat that guy out of a job attaching a toe tag on me for a while. So my pearl of wisdom here is... Keep your head up and smile, think of the good things that your able to enjoy as you have a great little family and many many people who do care about all of you and your family. You will have to adhere to the "knock off at five" for a long time as you see its only another five minutes and its done. Five minutes always turns into a hour or more

Hi Wes, thanks for the great videos. A couple of days after I turned 62 I had a mild stroke and quit working. It was hard. My natural inclination is to want to help people but I realized that there was an endless number of people who have things that needed fixing and only I could say no. They're still calling me 4 and a half years later.... and every once in a while I have helped/fixed something but it's pretty rare now. Life is too short to die working on someone else's problems. Take care of you and yours and let the world take care of itself

Just started my own service truck a month ago and was asked if i was going to do a RU-vid thing at the same time because my wife always sees me watching you guys. Brings back memories of growing up on farm in MN. Spent every summer on JD B cultivating corn like this manual cultivator. Back in the day... 50s/ 60s.

I learned how to curse watching my grandfather work in these when I was growing up. Never seemed to be a shortage of issues, but he loved them all the same.

Its so important to be able to know our limits and to know when we have pushed ourselves beyond them, running 2 businesses(youtube and the garage) and being there for your family can't be easy. Sorry to say, but I know every nut and bolt you touched on that B. I am in my 60's now, but we had model B, A's, 60's, 70's, 520, 720's, and a 55 combine. We did all the work ourselves, including splitting them in half and pulling the crankshaft. You keep it up. Great job. We just sold my dad's farm, which still contained a lot of this equipment. All sold off and bulldozed now. :(

Wes, I follow a lot of youtubers that produce similar content to yours. Whether it's mechanic stuff, welding, fabrication, or something along those lines. I've noticed that with almost all youtubers, their channel absolutely skyrockets as soon as they dedicate 100% of their time and energy to the channel, instead of multiple things at once. There's some saying out there about how the difference between a good product and a great product is like 70% more work, but the return you get from a great product vs a good product is a 1,000x higher. I may have butchered that, but you get the idea. I think freeing up time to focus on your channel will pay off in droves. Best of luck with however you decide to proceed. I know I'll always be watching!

In my experience, all antique tractors that get restored are subsequently forgotten. At least that was the case for my grandpa’s fleet. He got them running, wire wheeled rust for two weeks, bought a $25 gallon of paint from Running’s, and parked it in the shed with the rest. Great memories!

In it for the long haul... what separates you from some of the others is kindness, times the square root of knowledge, plus or minus a very dry sense of humor = GENIUS!! Do what you do and I'm sure we will all be here to watch your every move.

When Rainman Ray's Repairs finally became his own boss, I suggested he ask you for tips on how to run a business AND youtube at the same time. It didn't take him long to hire a second mechanic. Once you generate enough revenue via youtube, then it's time to hire someone to do the filming and editing.

Sweet tractor! My grandad and dad had a 1951 B restored when I was a kid probably 15 or 20 years ago... We still have it. Used to antique tractor pull it.

You are without a doubt my favorite RU-vid channel. I am glad you are taking the plunge. I was a facilities manager for a big automotive supplier and got burned out. I started a handyman business and my only regret was I didn’t start sooner.
