I bought this record when it came out back in 1974. There were two brothers I knew from high school in the record store at the time and one of them said “Enjoy your _John Denver_ in a sarcastic way. I said “Thanks, I will” not at all concerned about what they thought. If anything I felt sorry for them that they couldn’t see how great his music was. Still listening at 64. I’ll love this music until I die!

The line "There's a fire softly burning, supper's on the stove" makes me all warm inside. Picturing a little cozy cabin with a fire burning in a stone fireplace and the smell of a nice meal cooking. Ahhhh, the simple life. We all need to get back to the basics of life .

Throwing on a pair of sweats, a flannel shirt and some wooly socks. Curling up to my sweetheart on the sofa. Watching the logs crackle in the fireplace after a long day. These are the good times.

I got this album for Christmas back in 74 when I was 11 years old. I still have it. I’m 60 years old now and about to retire from trucking. I started driving trucks in 81 the same year I graduated from High School. After 41 years of trucking I can relate to the “tired old body” part of this song. John Denver, Bob Seger, and Merle Haggard have always been my favorite singer songwriters. I’ve followed John’s career since his first hit song in 71. This song takes me back to Southern California where I used to live when it came out on the radio. I’ll never forget John Denver and I hope to meet him someday in Heaven. 🙂

It is a beautiful song, the lyrics have meaning and John's voice is amazing. There has not been anyone who could sing in the same style and even come close to how he sang. For my generation he was a wonderful, "One of a kind."This song is a tender and beautiful ballad. A good man and awesome performer who died in a tragic accident deserves more respect~!

How we all long for those days and places where we grew up, the golden fields of gently waving wheat of Kansas. How I miss them.

My brother's in the final days of his life. Only 37 years old. I lost my mom 3 years ago to cancer and another brother 13 years ago at the young age of 25 to the flu. This song makes me think back to when we were all together as kids in the country. Now my wife and our kids are living that same life. I'm hoping they don't take this time for granted like most of us do.

I once (in the eighties) accepted a ride on a lonely highway. At some point, the driver, a man younger than me, asked “What music do you like?” I said, “John Denver.” He said, in that arrogant, smarmy tone I had grown so accustomed to, “I’m sorry.” I came this close to asking him to pull over and let me out. But we were in the middle of nowhere. Some people never “got” John Denver.

Goose bumps and watery eyes everytime I listen to John. My late dad who passed in 2016 loved his voice. Why do our most talented singers leave us do soon? John had one of the purest and clearest singing voices ever heard and his songs are legendary.. He is sorely missed. RIP John. 😢

True story. My wife and I were driving from Virginia to Denver. Had XM Radio on. As we crossed Kansas into Colorado, "Rocky Mountain High" came on! I just KNEW that John Denver was welcoming us.

I'm 70. In the 70's we packed up our 1975 F250 with her 10'2" Cab over and hit the vacation highway. Today our Grandchildren and even some of our Great-Grandchildren sing the songs of John Denver, The Statler Brothers and Kenny Rogers, just like back then. Great then, Great now!

I live in a city, and whenever I listen to this song (or any John Denver song) it makes me want to pack my bags and move to the mountains. Lucky for me, I'm a teenager so I can do it. That'll be a good day.

Years ago I was on my way home on Christmas morning pulling 150 loaded coal cars with 10,000 horse power screaming at notch 8 across a cold early morning across Nebraska on my way home to my new bride and baby and this song was going on in my head.

Grew up on this music,in the mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. This one is one of my favorites....his real name was Henry John Deutchendorf,his father was an offficer/pilot in the Air Force who flew jet planes,out of Roswell. He will be missed.✝

One day in 1997 i was walking to work south of Market St. in San Francisco (SOMA) in the morning, turned a corner, took a glance at a bank of newspaper boxes to my left, and saw the headlines "John Denver Dead." I've never known the death of a celebrity that truly saddened me to this very writing as the death of John Denver. My spirit was regenerated in 1972, when i became a born again Christian, when 'Rocky Mountain High was released.

I grew up with John Denver, in 1979 we want too Arkansas, and played all of his songs. My favorite song was Grandmas Feather Bed.

I would travel back and forth to see my parents in Wichita Falls from Austin...I was stationed in Bergstrom AFB...when the base was opened. After several long months...I would go back to Wichita Falls TX to see family and friends...this song was sooo meaningful... especially when he sang " supper on the stove". And Air Force chow was usually good. Sometimes tears would come.

JD's most famous song worldwide is Country Roads but this song, which has a similar sentiment, is my favorite of his.

As a retired senior USAF officer who has spent a year remote assignment away from his family, plus many more months of temporary duty away from family, this song hits home. I grew up in Colorado, love the mountains, and after retiring from the Air Force, eventually moved back home to Colorado. John Deutschendorf and I share the love of the Rocky Mountain High. As an amateur musician myself, and a DJ during high school and college, I deeply appreciate John's way with lyrics. RIP John.

For me home felt like a person, oh what a mistake a made. I cannot go back there. I have to build whatever is a home for me and my dog, I'll be working and paying rent until I have that place now that I'm moving to the big city. Until then I'll be the person I want to find and call home. I wrote this while crying. It hurts so much to feel like this.

Where has the heart and soul of our country gone to?

John Denver and Jim Croce are two of my most favorite singers and songwriters. Both have written some of my favorite music and both were taken too soon. They made this genre of country folk my favorite to listen to.

My father and I didnt get alot of alone time. One time driving back from Tennessee to Michigan, we were alone. We just played this tape over and over. It was raining but not hard. I remember the smell of it and us singing along.
