Thanks so much for the lyrics. Now I can pass on this video to kids in my family who are learning English. This is how I taught myself. Singing beautiful songs by Air supply, Chicago, the Beatles, The Bee Gees and so many others growing up from the 70’s and up . I even went back on time learning songs from when I wasn’t yet born. Grrrrrrrreat lyrics ! One learns more than just the language or the history of one country … one learns about life.
Words are essential to a song. And if the poeta is good He can evoke feelings to make you feel joy ,sadness, compassion, revolt, all the feelings. And if the musicians are on the same wavelenght, it's the tongue of angels (or devils...they also have their function)
I am listening to "California Dreamin'" at the moment. Did it maybe escape you're notice that this is a series of Folk Country Roads, rather than a single song? But, "Country Roads" is not about West Virginia, but about traveling there. In a way, it could play in 48 states. Obviously, going there can't be about West Virginia, and country roads excludes Hawaii. But the other 48 states can be the starting points of going to West Virginia.
@@peterhansmuijzenbergvanden5956 Here in Texas, we call that bullshit. There is no "series" of country road songs, there are thousands of them that were each written to surpass the others for profit. Most of the artists never knew each other and created their songs to be played on albums of their songs, as they were produced. I listened to these songs when they were new. And of course it's not about West Virginia, John Denver only describes the beauty of that state, and sings the name of that state, and only that state, several times in several ways in that song, so it couldn't possibly be about getting back to West Virginia. Country Roads is played at sporting events all over the US and tens of thousands of people at each event sing the song together. They consider it their song, I didn't say I did. Read carefully, how can you misread one sentence so badly? I'm always glad to provide an opportunity, even unintentionally, for someone to show how smart they are. You're welcome.
@@alpinealpine2793 That's right, because the underlying theme of the song is going home to the place where one grew up, and that's why it has a world- wide appeal.
Classic old songs like these thru the 60's to 80's helped me live life. I am a lonely 74 yr old man who grew up in a loveless home. The sadness, is that we were a largish family, yet cruel remarks and derision lurked in the shadows always. It broke me then and the memories still do now. Thanks for that wonderful music.
So sorry to hear Bushy, I can relate. Got charges pending for assault on sister. Sadly she has no idea, witnesses report she attacked me with a metal candle holder splitting my lip and adding further damages... I tried to help her after several falls. She states the bruises are due to my assault :( it never happenned... in fact I was standing in front of officers while she continued to threaten to have me arrested.. Like you I think we are one F***ed up disfunctional family... nobody talks to each other in our last days so to speak. sister in her 50's with 2 stints in heart,. other sister late 50's with recent stroke blamed on everybody else. Older .Brother 70's livin off anyone who will give him extra cash...More tactics to cause havoc and heartache whenever they can...Meanwhile my Parents home is going to hell after 4 yrs no repairs, no interest except to try and make it harder for me to purchase...My opinion. cant wait to leave the province and disappear... 9 kids I hear from 1,I need, I'm Broke, I need meds, I need I need I need... meanwhile hey look at the new toaster oven we bought! look at the new microwave we bought. look at the new I phone 11 we got for the kid, I won at the casino again Woohoo??? :( : ( :( never ending sorrow.. got a son changed his name, just got out of jail.. .thinks I'm gonna not talk to him cuz he's abandoned me since 2007?? Time to take a moment for us Bushy! look away, and enjoy the last years of our life. we deserve it ^5 Man... wishin you all the best...
@@I-B-OUTLAW-IV Sorry to hear of your family probs I-B? I was just makin the point, that sometimes it's easier to cruise on in ones own lane and keep sane by listening to the music that made you happy in your late teens and young married years. All the best to you too brother. Hey, keep your chin up an stay true an honest to that bloke in the mirror. 😊👍
It was a tune we played at my father's funeral. He was a veteran. He retired as a Band director then got his Master's in music education. This song hits nerves for me.

@@LAVirgo67maybe the USA grew too fast. Maybe as a country we weren’t ready to be the world’s leader. The country took on much more than we were ready for after WWII. We were young and full of ourselves, got too big for our britches. The leaders thought that after Hiroshima nobody would question or oppose us. The leaders immediately jumped into Korea and then Vietnam. But even Vietnam wasn’t enough to prove to a lot of people that the USA needed to cool our heels. So, here we are.
JUST LISTENING TO A LONG GONE ANGEL. THANK GOODNESS WE HAVE HIS VOICE TO DREAM IN. ONE OF THE BEST. I LIKE MANY IM SURE, MISS HIM. HE WOULD HAVE SOME NEW, GREAT MUSIC FOR ALL OF US TO ENJOY. THANK YOU JOHN DENVER WHAT WE HAVE OF YOUR WONDERFUL VOICE😊❤
“"Leader of the Band" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg for his 1981 album The Innocent Age. The song was written as a tribute to his father Lawrence Fogelberg, a musician and leader of a band who was still alive when the song was released.”
We have lost treasures over the years. I have lived over 3/4 of a century and my heart aches if I think back on all that has been lost. I am grateful that they left us their timeless and ageless recordings.
What a great decade to be a teenager . No cell phones, social media and all the electronic bs we have today. We used our brains made up games did lots of things that we shouldn't have but guess what we made it...music was so great back then!!
Great choice of songs and artists, but would also love songs of Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Judy Collins, Carole King, and songs like "Those were the Days" by Mary Hopkin...
Same way with me, my dad being a ww2 and Kora war vet and my mom being cold. Hollering and screaming at each other,i stayed out side all i could. Spent most of my child hood n the creek or in the woods.
Forget the past there is nothing you can change or alter its affecting you now, just let go of it its holding you back, live in the now, i have plans to go shopping tomorrow, but thats all i plan for do not plan for the future many things will change our lives this year, Living in the now means what ever you are up too this time in your life enjoy it, Just forget your past and live in the now, best wishes for you
A man I have met reminds me of John Denver he is one of the best men I have met and Befriended right next to Albert Einstein also a good friend. Sincerely and Honestly Chris James Lydon
It's really too bad today's generations will never hear or understand the feelings behind these songs. I'll forever cherish these songs, and many more like 'em.
*Very few people in history can go on stage with just an acoustic guitar and entertain the hell out of a crowd.* Let's enjoy these soothing sounds together. I love listening all old songs
I had just gotten to my first duty station in the military when I heard John Denver for the first time. That was 1972, and have enjoyed his music to this day. Thanks for the memories.
The recording of John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" surely sounds like an early version... He sounds so young !!. John was a very good songwriter. He wrote " Leavin' On A Jet Plane", too.
Wow,I love these songs sung by the originals musicians,so good and soothing,we must show the young generations what music was like when we grew up,otherwise they will miss out😊
I still remember those times during the week at the hospital and when Friday came, we went to the disco to remember my first girlfriend, Paqui, finishing her pharmacy degree so many years ago and I still got goosebumps. chicken, my god, this beautiful time salutes all my contemporaries
Growth, suffer, joy, pure life in form of music. To me there was new different song from Bee Gees (I started as a joke). I thought it was just a discoband with wide trousers but that song! Pure diamond.
Du hast so recht. TRADUCTION : Comme tu as raison. "Thank you for music etc" . Bravo John Denver. R.I.P.
😢😢 I've been crying my eyes out. Such hope for peace and unity. The brilliance of these, many departed, artists of a tumultuous time. The joys they brought were many to untold numbers of people. I grew up listening with a heart and soul of innocence. Now 61 missing family members from childhood, hearing yearnings for a better world 🌎, and knowing just how far from that dream we are in these desperate times; my heart and soul bleed 💔 😢
haven’t listened to John’s music in a long time … truly a artist, his lyrics were as that of poems, simplistic but incredibly beautiful and inspiring, we’re still blessed with great artist only you not gonna hear them on mainstream radio … I mean I can’t do it but, all the music of today is basically made with a computer and now with a.i. I would imagine I would be capable of writing music … thing is it would still not genuinely be me and therefore just fake as so much is this days
