You cannot go wrong with any of the songs from this concert, but he did a stellar job with "Calypso," the song he wrote in tribute to Jacques Cousteau and his research ship.
His best song in my opinion is Rocky Mountain High. John was an environmentalist and this song was about his discovery of his deep love of nature. Listen to the Studio version, it's amazing! Calypso is amazing too. It's a tribute to the Oceanographer Jaques Cousteau. Back in the day when we older folks were kids, we didn't have Discovery Channel and we looked forward to The Undersea World of Jaques Cousteau who with hisncrew on his ship the Calypso showed us the wonders of the ocean world. John was actually friends with him and was on the ship for a few adventures. Annie's song is a beautiful love song he wrote for his first wife.
Loved this. If you want to hear Johns true love of nature, you have to hear Rocky Mountain High. If want to hear Johns true love he had for his wife, you have to hear Annie’s Song. He is a true poet. Great reaction
"Annie's Song" .. "Rocky Mountain High". " Sunshine On My Shoulders". "Leaving On A,Jet Plane". These are just some of his songs. S great singer/songwtiter. He sang about prople.and places he loved.
This song became one of the two officel state songs of West Virginia. And Rocky Mountain High another of John's songs became Colorados' 2nd state song.
Sadly, John died at 53. He loved to fly & he crashed his recently purchased plane. He was awesome & had so much more great music in him. Sad for all. 'Rocky Mountain High' is another hit that I love.
Our WVU football team sings this song at the end of every home game. And by the end the entire crowd has joined in. It never fails to bring me to tears.
John Denver had a ton of hits and a bunch of really great songs. And they're all over the spectrum. Rocky Mountain High is a great second step I think, but there are so many. And yes it explicitly uses the word Colorado in it 😅
Folk singer, singer-songwriter, he has an epic catalog of songs. One of his best songs became a bigger hit for another group- Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul, & Mary, also folk singers
Omg yes!! More John Denver, Annie’s Song, Thank God I’m a Country Boy, Rocky Mountain High to name a few. And my fav because I first heard him as a kid on the Muppet Show, Grandma’s Feather Bed 🥰
I’m so glad you did this. I had a hard time liking his music when I was a kid but my mom LOVED him and world play his stuff constantly. As I became an adult and a musician myself, I learned to love him too. Also I had a 3-year-old son who was never interested in anything on the tv. Wouldn’t watch anything. One day I tuned into this very concert and my son was mesmerized by him. Even a little kid could recognize the amazing music!
Yes indeed, from that same concert, Rocky mountain high, is the best version ! Other good songs are Annie's song, This old guitar, Sunshine on my shoulder. John Denver was known for his smooth warm voice and gentle folk, pop, country blend style.
Thank you for the song, I haven’t heard it in awhile by John Denver. Home Free has a cover of it that I also enjoy very much. Of course they put their personal touch on it. I am actually a coal miner’s daughter from West Virginia. The stories I could tell.
This song is sung in bars 'n pubs around the world. Denver's music appeared on a variety of charts, including country music, the Billboard Hot 100, and adult contemporary, earning 12 gold and four platinum albums.
In the summer of 1971 we loved this song. I fell in love with it again when Geoff Castellucci the bass of VoicePlay did a wonderful cover of this song on his own channel. All that bass.
Umm - John Denver didn't die in 74 - John Denver was my first live concert in 1985. He was my all time favorite until Randy Travis entered country music.
Only got to go to 3 shows of John's, but oh boy, they were perfection. He was a childhood favorite, my family played his music in the car when we were on vacation. Nothing but wonderful memories.
John Denver was a great singer and song writer. He sounded just as good live as he did on the studio versions. He was more of a folk singer than a country singer. He was also an environmentalist before most people knew what that was. He died far too young and the world lost out on his huge talent for song writing.
This is one of the official state songs for West Virginia. Henry John Deutchendorf Jr was a humanitarian and conservationist, he spent a lot of his money trying to save this world. He was as big as Elvis in his prime and died by going into the sea in his Longeze kit plane when he was 56. A very talented man, he had his own show and in a film with George Burns. Many other songs, Rocky mountain High is another of his well known songs. He wrote most of his songs. Country Roads is played and sang after every game by West Virginia college football teams ❤
His voice was lovely. And this song hits everyone right in the feels, no wonder where the country roads you remember are. Doesn’t have to be W VA. Or even in the US.
This is my family's unofficial theme song. It was sung at all family gatherings, and sadly, funeral. My grandmother actually had a dream of a plane crash and when she woke up the next morning saw that John Denver had tragically died in one.
Rest in peace John Denver there's a little plane went down that he was pilot 10 or 15 years ago anyway Listen to As Much John Denver as you can😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
RIPJohn Denver. If you liked this song you should react to The Artists Then, Now & Forever - Forever Country. This song was one of 3 iconic songs in a mashup performed by 30 of Countries best. Unfortunate that John Denver wasn’t alive to enjoy.
Listen, I’m from Miami. I do not like country music but here’s the thing I was born January 1970 I grew up listening to John Denver and this man is brilliant.
Funny Thing is he did a song called rocky mountain high talking about colarado.. But in an ironic tragedy, he died in an airplane crash when he was flying his plane. One of his best songs was i'm leaving on a jet plane
John Denver is the only artist I know of who has two songs that are "un-official" official state songs - "Country Roads" and "Rocky Mountain High." the songs requested below are great songs. If you want a laugh, try "Forest Lawn."
Brandy Carlisle has a very heartfelt rendition that would also be worth a listen. John’s version is so good, but as a tribute, Brandy brought hers to the table.
I actually love John Denver😊memories of a big brother, Dad and me singing in a little blue LUV truck 🛻 He wanted to go into space. He attempted to go on The Challenger, that blew up, in the ‘80’s. He later died flying a plane ✈️ he built that ran out of gas ⛽️ RIP 💔😢🌹🙏🏼
This song was a world-wide hit even in China where Western music was banned sthe time it was John wrote many songs and his varied from love songs like Perhaps Love to songs about takinge care of nature like his Calypso to fun songs like Thakn God I'm a Country Boy He wrote most of his own song ro wrote the music. Not many people would try to cove r John's music because it was instantly recognizable at John Denver. I would classiiify him aa an easy listening balladeer/
If you want to hear a tribute version of this song, I would recommend the version from Home Free. It is absolutely a beautiful rendition of this song. And I do love the original just the same, but theirs offers a different vibe to it.
John Denver has a wide range of songs. If you want a couple on the faster and funnier side, listen to Thank God I'm a Country Boy and Grandma's Feather bed. If you want a couple that are more sentimental type, listen to Sunshine on My Shoulder and Annie's Song. I don't think John ever had a bad song unless it was him singing with Muppets. LOL
