Summer is here and when we want to have a ride somewhere with a little on and off the bike jeans make for a great option! However double layered jeans are only a little more breathable over leathers without the protection.
Single layer jeans answer this problem! They are the most breathable of trousers (unless you go mesh), they can be AAA rated and they look like a pair of normal jeans!
I tested John Doe Mono Pioneer single layer jean as this was one of the top single layers on the market. My thoughts are view are my own and I hope you like the video!
My gear featured in this video and where I bought it from (might have to click variants to get the colours):

Just bought myself a pair of the johndoe mono defender and it is stellar. The attention to detail is remarkable. I love the box. Next will be a Jean style John Doe. Great review.

Great review, thank you mate. I wasn't satisfied with knee protectors either, as you mentioned. I modified 3M Command strips with Seeflex RV14 Knee Protectors wich from my old Revit pants , and I'm very happy with the result. I attached 3M Command strips to the Revit protectors in a position similar to that of the John Doe protectors, and that's it, done.

Gonna be getting some riding jeans pretty soon actually so will check these out but looking at them the knee protection looks like it could move around as in side ways as I think you pointed out . But maybe they are all like that I don't know enough about them yet . Good one Dom 👍

It doesn't move around too much once in place, but finding that sweet spot is difficult and re-finding after you wash them means extra faff. It's a shame as they would be perfect otherwise.

@3:30-3:45 I bought the John Doe mon Defender recently - I found if you bias the knee armour to the outside you get the coverage you may want - I also have Revit Alpha Chinos and the knee armour is huge in those - the John Doe are def more comfortable.
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
Agree with the position. Knee armour is the only negative; for me a wider knee pad would give me a more feeling of safety.

4.00 "compromise" and risk assessment. Great video - nice to hear your common sense comments. I have to disagree on one point there is a higher approval - EN13595 level 1 and 2

Thanks :) True on the rating, but for urban looking I think this must be top, or as close. But nothing will or ever can beat a race suit... except leathers with an airbag!

Great review. What casual motorbike bike books do you use ?
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
Think you meant boots and not books 😂 if so I use the Falco aviator. Also really enjoyed the Rev’IT rodeo. For trainers I have a pair of Dainese. Of course I reviewed them all for the channel 😂

Great review. Question, do you normally wear size 32? Wonder if they are similar to Levi's 511? Thats what I wear. Thanks
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
32” or 34” depending on the brand/cut. Sorry I wear diesel and not Levi’s so can’t compare.

So single layer is as effective as a double layer ? I have a pair of Frank Thomas jeans that cost £150 , they are quite heavy but feel tough and up to,the job . They are quite thick .
@yodomcat
@yodomcat 2 года назад
You’ll be thankful of that in colder times, but for warmer single layer is the most comfortable. And going by the safety rating these are better at AAA. But don’t expect moto gp riders to be changing out of full leathers anytime soon.

Hi buddy, I am considering these, do you still like them? Would you feel as safe in these as fully lined jeans?
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
Love them, but the knee armour does give me cause for concerns coverage wise. No issues single or double liner however. But I think for me the Knox Shield have better knee armour so I would pump for them as my single layer jeans of choice. But I’ve done a few months in them, I like to test for six months plus if possible.

@andrewdugdale7043 Год назад
@@yodomcat Cheers for that, what is attracting me to the John Doe is they are on offer currently for like £170 which is a good price, do you think you could replace the knee armour with D30 ghost armour, wonder if that may be better
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
@@andrewdugdale7043 the armour is good, but moving into position takes a lot of trial and error and even when in position could do with being a little wider over the knee.

How stretchy are they. Do they flex in the waist. And typically wear 36 but stretchy jeans from the gap are 34
@yodomcat
@yodomcat 5 месяцев назад
I would say in the middle of your gap and normal. Good stretch in the legs but not so in the waist.

Will maybe Knox CE2 protection fit in those to get the best of both worlds?
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Месяц назад
They probably would, but then you’d see the armour a mile off. Might as well just get the @Knox shield which is a single layer but with the better armour (easily removable with their zip system).

Did you end up getting the Knox Shield too?

@@mizraelson unfortunately not, and now out of stock everywhere on a L 😿

I had a small spill yesterday at less than 30mph. Very disappointed that the jeans material wore through on the knees down to the Armour. I thought the material was too soft and thin to be real "AAA" and seems as such.
@yodomcat
@yodomcat Год назад
That’s bad to hear! Especially in the high impact area!
