Fun fact about autism and martial arts: If you (or your children) have autism, self defense is an AMAZING idea. I myself started doing jiu jitsu when I was 15 and IMMEDIATELY it became my hyper fixation (a symptom of my asperger's syndrome) So if you introduce yourself or your child to martial arts, and they click with it? You can *guarantee* that they will go far 😁
Whole life I’ve been in special education classes kids try to clown me. I got epilepsy and adhd and essential tremors and Muay Thai has changed my life greatly so much it’s crazy how much more confidence it’s gave me this dude just drives me even more to want to be a champ.
Thank you so much John! 33 and just found out this year I'm on the mild to moderate end of the spectrum, which explained a lot for me as well! I train BJJ(almost to purple now!) and kickboxing and it's helped me so much over the years
Bro this motivation is what I needed because I have autism and I do boxing and Muay Thai and I've been getting really good at it I be getting faster with my hands and begin good with my kicks and I was bullied too
My six year olds on the spectrum it's super tough dealing with the stigmas AN how ppl might treat your kid in schools AN among other kids , this brings tears to my eyes that he stands up and says this.I went to Job corps with dooms ten plus years ago an I remember he seemed humble this is some real hero shit though . Il be a fan for life...
I’m 12 and autistic and I want to be a MMA or ufc fighter so its good to see this but I’m probably going to join the army that’s also what I want to do
I'm kind of the same way I'm a slow learner its rough trying to solve a problem but gets intense. I use to be in special ed and I completely understand. But I still played football and wrestle it was cool to keep my mind going
I go back and watch this interview every year because its a true moment in sports history via the MMA Scene where a fighter hid his so called disability because of fear and finally came out with it to help inspire other young kids having a hard time in school like he did and giving proof that if he can than anyone can! What he even goes in on about how the school systems deal with students similar to him being taken the wrong way has been spreading toxic fears inside plenty of people who are just like you or i!
PDD actually isn't on the spectrum its a blanket term that doctors will label you with when they suspect your on the spectrum and don't wanna label you autistic just yet. My daughter was diagnosed PDD and she couldn't get proper autism treatment because she "wasn't diagnosed as autistic"
