Love this- Tommy always appears to absolutely love what he does and it oozes out in his passion for playing guitar. And so does John for that matter- 2 of the best!
Two people who exist purely for music. Neither of them wanted to be a dentist, they both had natural talent, pursued it. I would argue John got less recognition for his, but time... time heals all.
What I think is a crying shame is that John didn't do a portable version of his big band act, just as a duo with Tommy. I once heard somebody say in an interview, whilst I love watching Bette Midler with her Symphony Orchestra and rock group backing band, I still always preferred that original act she did as a duo with Barry Manilow on piano. I think teaming up the best fingerstyle guitarist in the world with the best singer in the world would have been an unbeatable duo.
It’s hard to believe that Tommy doesn’t read or write music but he does compose his own music! It he amazing, in my opinion the best in the world. You should listen to him play initiation. It’s just pure magic! He calls himself a one man band!
*John Farnham helped Tommy Emmanuel with his addiction problems and Johnny was upset that Tommy didn't tell him earlier about his bad addiction of Heroin and Cocaine when he was playing Guitar with the band Dragon. Just about ruined Tommy Emmanuels career if it wasn't for John Farnhams friendship to help him get off the drugs.💯*
