does the t-shirt thing really help? I've been going to two NHRA events every year for about 5 years and have not gotten the hang of standing near the cars when warming up without crying lol.

Derekjlight Depends on the person. I stood directly behind John's car last year at the US Nationals recording while he did a start up, to see how long I could stand it. Shirt over nose and mouth, eyes closed and took a deep breath before they started. While running I took short breaths when needed but my brain said I need air so I took a bigger breath then I wanted. Unfortunately that did it for me and had to move away. My lungs felt like they were on fire lol. A lot of guys talk like they're tough shit but that's usually where it stops. This year will be my 20th year going to the US Nationals. One thing I miss that the teams used to do during warm up is burp the engines. No clue why they don't do that any more.

Thanks for the reply Bill. From my understanding, the teams don't whack the throttle to seat the clutch anymore because they simply don't have to. The parts are so well made now that the clutches don't need it anymore. That is what I have heard from the commentators on TV and online.

derekjlight damn technology! Thats what i also heard about why they stopped doing the exciting dryhops! A good year rep told me years back that a real good tire was now available. That a dryhop was just wasting a good launch. With the newer compounds now available, it is best to burnout and launch.
