So I decided to put this product to the test! I used the John Frieda Go Blonder Shampoo and Lightening Spray (drugstore) 10 times over the past 3 weeks to see if it really did lighten my blonde 2 shades. Before and After pics start at 3:25. Charlene Williams depends how much u use and I would say that it works a lot faster if u have your hair in the sun rather than straightening

My hair went SO dark after I turned 21 and people thought I was brunette! So I got this and have used it on and off since March and my hair is super light now with white blonde highlights like it used to be as a kid! It's awesome 😊

no it didn't damage my hair, I'm going to use it again this summer because i let my hair go dark again (it didn't go back to brunette though! its a golden blonde) during winter as it worked so well last year :)

Help plz. I don't want alllll of my hair to be a one color blonde, I like seeing the mix of "winter blonde" & bright blonde. Is that what is meant by highlights? I think yes - duh. But you mentioned that you have nice highlights now ...Did you spray it all over your head & you magically achieved a highlights look? Or did you go strand by strand? The reason I ask is bcoz i just watch a vid of a lady in a car who says she sprays it all over AND she even lifts back her hair and sprays underneath... "coz I want this highlight look", as she points out her strands of lighter blonde in contrast with strands of darker blonde. She definitely has highlights, itz not allll one color blonde. Sooooo, long question short: I have that winter blonde color right now. If i just simply spray it all over (& perhaps not purposely get underneath the top layer), do you think I will get that bright blonde/winter blonde mix I'm looking for - once i tease it with my fingers? THANK YOU for surviving through my text =:).

I have dirty blonde hair and I’ve been using it a couple years now and my hair is like BLONDE, you have to use a toner and it does dry out your hair, but that’s like with any lightening treatment

I definitely prefer the shampoo because it lightens while keeping the tone neutral, but the spray absolutely brasses up your darker blonde pieces. I got it near my roots and yep - ended up with orange roots.

The shampoo and the rest of the products do work. It will be brassy. Use purple shampoo and deep condition your hair to protect the hair as well.

If it’s a peroxide base it will lift any hair, but do not go into it expecting significant results

I use it and get a golden blonde colour. I use purple shampoo if I feel it getting a bit too yellow. I love how well it lightens my hair and roots.

I just put the conditioner in as a hair mask for an hour plus then shampoo and then use a lightening spray and that manages to lift my blonde even further without the damage

I only use that lightening spray and really moistening shampoo and conditioner and I love it for my roots in winter!!! I have natural darker blonde hair that goes very light in summer so it’s great for that winter regrowth! I only use it on my roots and it’s blends seamlessly 😍

I didn't use the spray as I was wary of damage because I used to bleach my hair (my hair is now grown out dark blonde/ the odd darker hair and white hairs I'm in my early 30s) after one use of the shampoo and conditioner has brought out all my natural highlights and the dark blonde bits look visibly lighter!

Yes but not a lot, I did that first being worried about the spray and there was a change but it was subtle enough that I wasn’t even certain, my hair gets naturally blonder in the sun without products anyway so it was hard to tell. If you want something noticeable, the spray is important along with using heat/going in the sun after.

Girl no... you have a color in your hair it would be hair suicide to just bleach it blonde. You have to strip/remove the color.. it’s an entire process a professional really should be doing

and I used to go blonder to and it has made my hair blonder I don't use the hydrogen peroxide spraying but I do use the shampoo and conditioner and in one time of loot leaving the conditioner on overnight in made my hair much blonder

im dark blonde and half my hair is still dyed a light brown that looks really brassy in sunlight, if i used the spray and purple shampoo would that help me lighten it and remove some of the brassiness? anyone have an opinion?

I imagine this could happen for some people it sounds like the old school Sun In spray which was pretty much a spray in bleach which can damage hair and cause it to break off. Girl in the video looks like her hair is in good condition from what I can see so that's probably why it worked for her

Ich kann nur abraten von dem Spray! Habe meine Recherche vor dem Kauf gemacht und viele negative Kommentare gelesen. Auch in vielen RU-vid Videos wurde von Haarbruch berichtet. Ich wollte es trotzdem selber ausprobieren und meine eigene Erfahrung damit machen. Das Endergebnis ist, dass ich heute beim Friseur war und die Haare sehr kurz schneiden lassen habe um den Schaden ( richtig kaputte und ausgedünnte Haare) zu reduzieren. Zum Glück habe ich nur 2 Strähnen vorne behandelt und nicht das ganze Haar!

Hi! I would not recommend using this if you have light brown hair. This is more or less to brighten already pretty light blonde. But to answer your question, it will only lighten to a certain level. The packaging also says to only use it 10 times because it will make your hair and scalp dry if you use it too much. Hope this helps!

+cristina hd I don't think it will over lighten... It's only supposed to brighten and lighten 1-2 shades. It's very gradual, you won't notice a difference right away.

Hi :) this review is only for the go blonder, and it's only supposed to be used on already pretty light hair. I can't speak for the brunette version, I've never tried! But if your hair is dark, I'd say go for the one for dark hair. The blonde one would probably turn your hair a tad orange. Hope this was less cruddy help :)

its best to use a blue or purple shampoo or conditioner the time after you wash your hair after using these. so you alternate using this one wash and the purple shampoo the nxt. now tell me how you get on.

lottie elkari Ur right. I use the Blonde shampoo & a purple conditioner every other day. The other times I use a heavy protein mask. I know you don't care. 😂. It helps the people complaining about breakage though.

My roots got a reddish glow (my natural, uncoloured hair). So I assume darker blondes would get some warmth. But I didn't get any redness on my bleached hair

I have had Brown Hair all my life so,I guess for me to go Blonde at my age probably wouldn't suite me now.I love what John Frieda has done for all those Ladies hair though.I think it looks really nice.Too bad I say I wasn't born a Blonde,sure would have liked to try this Go Lighter,Go Blonder.I would be satisified right now to be able to stop the hair breakage,my hair is terrible for this.

Hi you don't wash the spray out. You spray it in after you get out of the shower, and then blow dry your hair. Repeat the next time you wash you r hair. :)

2 years later and my hair is still recovering from the horrible damage this product caused my hair! Hair literally broke off close to the roots after several uses, became so dry and broken that it was a devastating and very noticeable embarrassment! :( :(

Yes. Especially the Conditioner (which she did not buy or try!). [ I wouldn't use the Spray] But, it is a DrugStore product. So, I use Professional Products along with this. Sometimes together - sometimes every other washing. But, it is quite a good DrugStore Conditioner. Try it!

Vita1892 I bought the spray only and used that about 3 times. It didn't do anything for me, so I got the shampoo and I've noticed my hair getting lighter with that

I have used JUST the Shampoo & Conditioner. Works great. Lightens and Brightens. Lots of compliments.

The shampoo and conditioner RUINED my hair! I never used the spray but I used the shampoo/conditioner for over a year. I didn't notice at first and I loved how my hair was lightening but after awhile I saw my wavy curls getting more and more frizzy and unmanageable. My hair started to feel like straw and no leave in was helping. I finally switched shampoo/conditioner and started noticing a difference immediately. My hair still wasn't back to its original self till after it all grew out and I cut it off. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS STUFF

I used hydrogen peroxide on my hair for approximately six months I had highly bleach there and do you know what happened all my hair fell out it all fell out I am now growing in a new untouched brown hair that I will lighten as it gets longer but I will never ever put hydrogen peroxide in my hair and girls if you're smart you won't either I'm not kidding you sure did lighten my hair but it lightened it in a bad way to hit light and how heavy my hair was because I lost it just thought y'all might like to know that about hydrogen peroxide

Straight hydrogen peroxide with no bleach? Heck no. The stuff they sell oft isnt meant for hair. At ALL. Only use the stuff meant for hair color/ bleach and now we have olaplex or bond builders to use.

if ill only use spray, without shampoo or conditioner from this line will it still work?

Definitely will still do something after 10 uses- just might not be as noticeable as if you used all three products in this line together. :)

You have the bleach just the top dark part first to make it more even with the bottom. Then if it's somewhat even, you can put a medium blonde hair colour over top of it all, or tone the whole thing (I have a whole video about toners). If it's not even, like the top half is dark orange for example, then you'll have to bleach the dark part again. And then you can tone it or put a colour overtop. Its a very damaging process though and I recommend going to a professional

+Yadira Dipalomares no, this is not meant for brown hair - it won't lighten enough to do what you want I don't think. Do you have dyed brown hair? Or is it your natural colour? If it's dyed brown, you could try the vitamin C method to lighten your hair (look up videos on RU-vid) - I've tried it, it kind of works, but you have to do it a few times and it does make your hair dry. Otherwise, I would suggest using hair bleach..you could dilute the hair bleach with shampoo (bleach bath - also look up videos)to lighten just a bit and not damage as much. Keep in mind that the products I'm talking about in the above video have peroxide (bleach) in them, so if that's what you were avoiding, then you wouldn't be if you were to use them. But if you use this on brown hair, it likely wouldn't do much and if it did, it would turn your hair orange-y ..which means if you try to put blue on top, it's gunna look greenish brownish. Hope this helped!

+somegirljess and I'm not dying my whole hair. blue I just want highlights and I tried putting the blue dye in my hair and it barley shows. And I need something that makes my hair a little lighter. do you have any recommendations what I should use if not that ok.
