@@liviaseifeddine what? wdym, i didn't say it sarcasticly, it is actually really good! other videos of this performance on youtube are much worse audio-wise, you can look it up yourself, thanks for the upload!
Awesome he played this! I remember hearing Dave Grohl saying this was one of the weaker songs on the album It is SO reassuring to see peoples comments on how good the song is to them! Goes to show the diversity of art, what something doesn't appeal, it appeals to someone else! Merry Xmas John!! All the way from Australia!
Dave Grohl says a lot of things. In fact, he talks too much, and on occasion has said things that come across as if he's trying to get out of Kurt's shadow.
@@pandemic7 He has been trying to get out of Kurts shadow since he joined the band, and it became successful. He always enjoyed the spotlight, being on the stage even if it was in the background on the drums he didn't care he loved the attention, Kurt hated it by contrast so Dave always kind of resented Kurt on some level I think. He still doesn't really understand why Kurts music affected so many and has lasted in the spotlight for so long. The reason is simple imo, Dave had a good childhood, stable home, loving parents that stayed together and the freedom to follow his own path without judgement. Kurt had the opposite on all levels, and childhood trauma/emotional turmoil has an effect on how you see the world and the people around you. Kurt's music was fuelled by that angst and turmoil, Dave, well he just didn't have that. Dave loves loud rock music with energy, he doesn't necessarily get the feeling behind it even when its music from a person he was friends and bandmates with. He still in 1994 didn't understand the pain Kurt was in or how bad it was, he seemed in some interviews to mock Kurt for complaining about being a big rich rock star flying from hotel room to hotel room and playing to sold out stadiums. He just couldn't relate to Kurt's experience, and couldn't feel the pain in the music, he just liked hitting the drums hard. When you boil down most of Dave's music it all comes down to love, either it's a straight-up love song or it's a heartbreak song, this is a bit reductive obviously, but I would go as far as to say he is rock musics Taylor Swift in some ways. His best most visceral songs cover topics like literally being in the shadow, the pretender for example, or his anger at C Love with stacked actors, or a song that was repurposed to be about Kurt's death "I should have known" after other people heard it and told him it sounded like he was talking about Kurt. He didn't have that in mind when he wrote it, it just turned out being a good match for what he "should" have felt about Kurt. He doesn't get it, and while I love a lot of Foo Fighters music, and as a musician Dave is technically better than Kurt (far more consistent at least), in terms of lasting impact and feeling, it just doesn't compare to Nirvana, and I don't think Dave understands why or how that is possible because music is a thing to be enjoyed for him. He just resents the whole thing I think, and feels he has to understand it and explain it away, diminishing Kurt's musical ability, or songwriting by accident because he hates feeling in the shadow as you said, but the alternative is just walking around saying "I will never be able to write songs as well as Kurt, I will always be in his shadow" which also implies that his current success wouldn't exist without Kurt having cast that shadow, which would suck. If im right, its a shame, I feel bad for him, he should just be happy he makes music that is extremely popular and has entertained millions of people for many years. The other side to this is that the press and fans constantly needled him to speak about Nirvana ever since Kurt died, even when he would be do a press tour for a new album that was selling out he would still be asked these same questions about Kurt, its no wonder he feels he has to try and say something new or profound that give fans a view from his perspective, while also feeling resentful they can't just live in this moment and give him the credit he deserves.
I forgot how good Johns rendition of this song is. I normally hate Nirvana covers, because I feel they’re too often butchered. It’s hard to do them justice, because Kurt’s voice was so unique.
I think you could refer to Anthony’s singing in much the same way that the Lennon referred to Ringo’s drumming 😅 (he wasn’t the best drummer in the world, he wasn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles)
In his interview when he was strung out on heroin he claimed he didn’t like Kurts music. Didn’t believe a word he said….. and of course he likes Cobains music! 💕 gotcha John! 😉
Damned... He was doing great until he attempted to hit the high pitch voice part. God he butchered that song completely... What makes this 100× worse is that the new generation will totally believe he wrote this awful version as original!! Don't know how these hacks get authorized to copyright this stuff but it's sad!! If Kurt heard this he would be pissed!!
hmmm yeah I don't really think Kurt would actually care for such a thing, and like, this video got a copyright claim. but dude, seriously, this is a cover. we don't (at least I don't) expect covers to be exactly the same as the original versions. also I wouldn't expect that much for the new generation, but if they really like a song they can easily search it up on the internet and see who wrote the original
am I the only one who thinks Frusciante is incredibly average? Wow, a cover of a Nirvana song. Have you heard his solo stuff? He's a decent guitarist but just a dude who liked Hendrix and messed around on his guitar all day. And RHCP are an overrated band. Flea is the glue that keeps that band together. Anthony literally knows absolutely nothing about music, but can rap and eventually learned to make up melodies over guitar chords.
no, you're not the only one. yes I've heard almost all of his solo work, and I am so happy that I did that. it was one of the best decisions I've ever made (to listen to his work). but the thing is, John is not a guy that wants to impress people by how fast he can play or anything like that. he even stated that on a couple interviews. I sure love all the guitar parts that he writes and puts in his music, but mainly, I like it for what it is and for what it makes me feel. it always makes me extremely happy and I can't help it. it has nothing to do with ability (at least for me). as for rhcp, you might think that, but its the greatest band for me. their music just flows very well and I love the vibes. I love almost everything they make together and if flea was the glue, im sure they would have been disbanded a long time ago. a lot of people (I mean, A LOT) feel connected with their kind of music, and if you don't, that's okay, we are all meant to be different. yeah anthony might not know crap about music, but imo he makes the best and funniest lyrics with a great melody, which is enough for a vocal. anyways I might be overthinking here but John also said something like "its not about showing what you can do with a piece of wood with strings, is about music" or something like that. I believe that his music didn't reach you, which is okay, but he is nothing like an average person :)
