Snow is just mind blowing. The melody, the meter, the flow and direction. I hate when people don't give him the credit he deserves as a song writer and guitarist cause he's not considered a guitar hero fuckin type or whatever.. I’ve been a drummer since 97. A guitarist since 2006. John is the most influential guitarist in recent memory. Learning this album by ear along with all the multi tracks will progress your playing like nothing else. It literally has every style of music that pertains to electric guitar. There’s subtle notes you’ll not find unless you listen to this over and over again hundreds if not thousands of times.

@happyrules22
@happyrules22 3 года назад
@@BGatts666 I imagine he thinks of everything, including thoughts like you mentioned. Yet, like a pro sports player, I believe he is better able to block those thoughts now than in the past. Especially when John isn't playing live, and has been out of the band from 2008 - 2019. Or, maybe he knows he can't "block" those thoughts, so he channels them differently or perhaps practices certain activities to promote mental wellness. I know RHCP became big on staying healthy during Californication era, and they have only stayed more true with that aim since. There are all of these videos online of them talking about yoga, or meditation, etc. It made sense for them as a band to be more mindful of their actions/thoughts since of course they were a wild group in the past. How John does things differently now compared to what he did/does with the band in the past and now only he and the band knows. Unless John has mentioned what he does in his recent 2020 interviews where he talks about a little of everything. I recommend you try reading one of those interviews if you have time!

He plays guitar the way he talks. Commands the language perfectly well but with all these little “mistakes” and imperfections that make his sound so unique, distinct, and, ultimately, endearing. He proves that obsessing over technique at the expense of “soul” is detrimental to finding one’s true uniqueness and voice.

@@typalmer6850 You must have misunderstood him if you think he said he purposely introduces mistakes. He purposely leaves them in rather than redoing them, but he doesn't fuck up on purpose, that would be even faker than polished perfection. I mean you're suggesting that he puts in imperfections "to make the music seem more authentic", come on man don't be ridiculous. The music is authentic, it hasn't been tricked up to seem authentic.
@typalmer6850
@typalmer6850 2 года назад
@@johnarundell7951 While I agree with the logic and premise of what you're saying, I think it's important to note that certain styles of playing can introduce what appear to be imperfections in the sound at the expense of another musical component. An example of this is muting all but the desired string(s) rather than outright playing what the intended musical result is. This technique in particular can allow for a richer timbre overall, but may introduce issues like buzzing, or overtly noticeable transition between chords/notes that wouldn't otherwise be present etc.

He left the band after touring this album is that right? A fitting swan song..... I'm still trying to play the chorus properly, that fast descending scale. As for the solo, forget it! I'm holding down the rhythm in that part.

Theres just a real huge sonic resonance from the way this guy plays.... I can't put my hands on it- but its really gratifying to hear all of his guitar parts raw and in fresh print like this. Thank You for posting this up. John Frusciante is still by far one of my favorite guitar players... One of the more positive uplifting players I listen to.

This is truly the pinnacle of RHCP song writing with Frusciante. That tracks that resonate most with me are Desecration Smile, Strip My Mind, Wet Sand, Hey, Snow, and Death of a Martian. At the same time, there are songs here that struggle with; Tell Me Baby, for example, has the catchiest verse riff followed by such a cheesy chorus. I have a hard time stomaching that one. I usually skip it. So, the album does have its lows for me, but it definitely has something for everyone. Love it!
