Lex was clearly the best character of the show. Then Lois and Lionel came in third place. I was on the verge of giving up the show at the time and then Lana finally left. The back and forth between her and Clark was just getting on my nerves. It wasn't her or Clark's fault, it was the authors' fault. For me, the fresh, light wind that Lois brought to the show clearly saved the series for me. And what happened after the time jump was simple The best seasons of the show, except the return of Lionel with the parallel world. That wasn't so cool. By far the worst, however, was the departure of Lex.
I love that you can really see Michael's love, understanding, and care for John. I really do feel like Michael reveres him as a father figure in his life and you can even see it in his face and hear it in their voices throughout the conversation. Great team you guys are.
He is a legend love all his work, but I must confess this is hard to watch getting old socks. U can tell his mind is Deteriorating, and I think micheal recognized it, and he trying to help him out
@@cedricgaming5106 Yes, I noticed that too. It was definitely a little sad seeing Michael ask him a question and watching John trying to find the words or thoughts to answer it; he seemed a little lost or disoriented, but I love that Michael recognized that and helped him along.
@@LucasJake88I don’t wish Alzheimer’s upon my worst enemy, my grandmother died of that. That disease is absolute and pure evil, I hope John’s memory gets better when he starts working again.
I'm 40 and my dad is 79 and we watched Smallville and Trek and a million other things together, and this is just making me so happy to listen to. Thank you!
Not an understatement to say that it was the Luthors' relationship in Smallville that hooked me initially to the show. Glover was just awesome in that role, and Rosey - who still in my mind is the best on-screen Lex - was just a treat to watch interact with him throughout the show. Such a great pairing and had really great chemistry. And Glover was just EVERYWHERE back in the day- Scrooged, Gremlins 2, Robocop 2. And can't forget to mention is role as the Riddler in the Batman Animated series. Great guest Rosey!
MIchael clearly wants John to be happy, and is concerned for him, really heart warming to see. John has done so much and been so successful, he can step back and enjoy experiencing life.
When John Glover speaks to you there is that intellectual quality to his performance. The Riddler persona and Lionel Luthor seriously are my favorite performances.
I met John in Santa Fe and you would never know he's the age he is. He and Adam are just great guys. Such a pleasure having dinner with them celebrating our Anniversaries. We just had our 25th and they just celebrated 31 years.
I never knew John Glover was gay until now. Despite loving him in Smallville and knowing him from some movies like Batman and Robin, he was probably the best thing in that movie lol, I haven't looked too deep into his life off set. It's sad that he might be dealing with Alzheimer. My own dad is going through that. I wish him all the luck and hope he can continue acting for quite a while longer.
This was an absolutely beautiful interview, the rapport between the two of you was delightful and I am so glad you suggested getting together with John so that you can both help and inspire each other. Thank you for having John on the podcast again, it was nice to see father and son reunited 🤗💖
I first discovered John Glover when I was much younger in Gremlins 2. A very underrated movie and a very cool character. I'm always happy to see him in shows when he shows up and he was just awesome in Smallville.
John Glover is great in everything he’s in! Especially 52 Pickup if you haven’t seen it. And masquerade. But he’s scenes in Payback are also great. But Glover truly shines in 52 Pickup. Also was on a classic episode of Miami Vice. Truly a very talented actor.
This was very touching, how gentle and patient Mike is with Jon. My mother died from ddementia in 2022, and I know how hard it is to be patient and helpful with people. Nice work Michael, double thumbs up!
I can feel what he's saying. I crochet and have multiple projects going. When I get more than I need, I donate then to clothes drives for homeless or people who have lost everything.
I don't know what it is, but it is really humbling and comforting to listen to you celebrities talk about mental health, life struggles, and you know, just being human. You do it so candidly and to me as a fan of your acting careers and the characters you played, it really helps me understand that even celebrities have drama just like we all do. The media never shows this of course, so I really love your podcast for this. Thank you for what you do Rosey and John, you are a legend and I'm so glad you were cast as a regular on Smallville instead of initially just slated to be a guest star. You played Lionel so well! Rosey, you were and still are the best Lex Luthor!
These two were a tour de force on screen together. As others have pointed out, I wouldn't have become so invested in Smallville if it weren't for their absolutely phenomenal performances and the chemistry they effortlessly exuded.
I just finished listening to this episode and it was delightful. John’s thoughts on death was interesting. Kind of ironic since tomorrow is the Legacy of Talkville. John definitely needs to be back on the podcast again. There is always a warmness when you interview John. Best podcast ever!
Speaking of death, my Grandmother recently passed away at 97, but for the last 4 years she was in a nursing home with no quality of life, and as much as it pained me to think it, I wish she would have gone earlier. It's sad, but it's true.
You guys were the best part of Smallville. One of the saddest things about Lionel dying was it ended the journey of a dark man trying to become better by overcoming his ego and desire for control. I found said journey very interesting and something you would typically see on television.
Such a sweet and endearing Luthor reunion. The love and respect y’all feel for each other really comes through. Thank you for being the best part of my day ❤🙏.
So interesting to see the behind the scenes relationship between two actors who did such great work opposite each other on screen. What a great gift to get an insight into some of Glover’s wisdom and experience. What a legend.
Okay ive listened to this episode twice now and oh its so good. Both Michael and John have such great chemistry and the touching father/son moment at the ending @1:12:00 was the icing on the cake.
I can honestly say that I have never seen anything that John Glover has been in that I didn't believe he did his job above and beyond, thank you Mr. Glover.
I absolutely adored this podcast, it was like having Talkville and Inside of You all in one go. Two very dear precious men who really care about each other, and who are willing to be vulnerable with each other, and with the listeners. For those of us that have had tough childhoods, it's so relatable. Wish I could give the both of you, and good old Ryan, a big hug. You are both beautiful people and excellent actors. Blessings
Really enjoyed the interview. The chemistry between you both on Smallville was palpable and it’s great to see you both chatting as yourselves. As a relatively small time creative, it’s also nice to hear about how others deal with struggles in relation to their pursuits.
He is such a joy to speak with In person. I said hi to him this weekend at RI comic con. Also I was very fortunate to have spoken to him and take a group photo with the legend and late Kevin Conroy back in 2021. Love the guy.
Its cool to see the real actors connect and share thoughts on things. Both of your characters have been iconic for me, but seeing the more personal side of the real people behind those characters brings some relatablity.
I don’t think there was ever a better duo playing father and son in a show. Your guys chemistry and charm on screen for scenes was completely unparalleled and spectacular. Glad to see you guys face to face for this podcast and bringing back such fond memories!
Love your friendship with John another amazing episode. I really enjoyed meeting you both at Salt Lake FanX only wish I wasn’t so nervous meeting you and John. You both made me come out of my shell and I don’t feel as nervous as I used to. I would love to meet you both again, maybe someday and get a photo with you both. John is so young at heart and so loving and kind, Love John and Adam both so talented. So glad you brought John back on the podcast. If you’re at any of the comic conventions That Michael and John appear, make sure to stop and meet them. John and Michael they both Rock!!!
I felt like I was in the room watching this on RU-vid. I could listen to John talk on and on and on. What a fabulous human being an actor. Some fabulous experiences he has shared with us today please get him back again soon Michael. Thankyou John❤
Thanks for bringing John over. It was very wonderful and wholesome to see him age so gracefully and to still remain as gentle and as warm soul as ever. I wish I was able to see him doing stage plays but even without such opportunities, there's still so much work of his to catch up with. 20 years later I still very much love the best ever cast Lex and Lionel Luthor.
John Glover is awesome. His portrayal of Lionel Luthor was one of my favorite parts of Smallville. Lionel's mere presence made for such an interesting origin story/foil for Lex. And, seeing the two of you play off each other was great. As a Smallville fan, it's fun to see that you get along as actors and friends. I remember one of your earlier interviews on the podcast where you pointed out how you thought he did not like you and then he either called you or invited you over... and, showed that wasn't the case. The one thing I really wanted to hear was anything about 52 Pick-up, i.e. stories about Roy Scheider or Ann-Margaret.
Your show and guests are terrific, Michael. It's great to see John here! I can still remember seeing Gremlins 2 in the cinema 33 years ago (Still a masterpiece to this day) and loving John in that film. Such a brilliant and hilarious character played to perfection. If they ever do a third Gremlins, I hope he will at least cameo as Daniel Clamp again. Genius.
So great to see John Glover in the studio this time. I've always been fascinated by his work and it was mildly disappointing when last time had to happen in the webcam format.
Loved John’s portrayal of Lionel in Smallville and I loved his portrayal as Satan in the short lived cult classic Brimstone I thought those were possibly his best roles
This is an amazing podcast, you guys are the best part of Smallville. I’m watching season 8 now. Without your characters it’s missing a spark, you guys made the show. ❤
Lionel Luther was a great character and was played perfectly by John, you hated him from the start ,because you saw him walk over corpses and do anything to get what he wants, and then watch how he changes and becomes a friend, it was so great, great character development, thank you =)
Wow what a interview, good for John Glover for giving up wine, well and truly touched me this interview, and yes Michael Rosenbaum, you and John Glover were fantastic in smallville and gelled so well even though your characters weren't nice at times you couldn't help but like your characters either brilliant acting from both of yous. X
John briefly spoke of his memory. Of course, people sometimes lose some as they age but I was curious if John had ever gotten COVID. Perhaps his memory troubles could be related; I had memory issues/brain fog for over a year after having COVID, two times.
I was surprised to see how frail John Glover is now, but given his age when doing Smallville it makes sense. That said, always happy to listen to John. God bless him.
Sad to say John comes across like he's having worsening trouble with memory and cognition these days. I'm not a doctor, I'm not in a position to be diagnosing anything, I'm just saying he's still there but there's a slowness about him, the way he trips over his own speech patterns and seems like he's struggling to recall not just distant memories but the words to use in a sentence. Wonderful actor and seems like a really lovely man too, I wish him all the best.
We are all broken. I love how Jesus connected me to Himself/God which has been of great help and brought me peace, hope, and joy. As you speak about therapy (which is so great) I think about how the Holy Spirit works in me to produce fruit that bears His character. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And the Holy Spirit has counselled me as well. One of God's titles is The Great Counsellor. God also renews my mind as I read His Word. I have peace that God has made me on purpose for a purpose. As we all have been. He has given me gifts and abilities and I am enough. I struggle with comparing myself to others (I'm single, never married with no children and I'm not thin: culture would say there is something wrong with me) but then I connect with God and remember there is no value in comparing myself to others who have "everything" and to continuing to do so would hurt me, not help. Jesus is alive and well and He is closer than a friend. He is here for you if you want, too. He never forces anyone to follow him. So I share and let others know that he is longing to be in relationship with them. This is the Good News. God not only does all this but saves us from an eternal death. Jesus will wipe away all our tears and there will be no sickness and sadness in heaven. And scripture also says that no eye has seen and no ear has heard what God has prepared for those who love Him. Heaven is going to be off the hook! God bless Michael and I hope this finds you well : )
I literally did not put it together that John was in Scrooged until just now. I’m so used to him being his natural brunette with or without the beard that I had to go back in my head, and I was like “Oh, shit, he was Bryce, the LA slimeball.” And now I’m running through the lunch scene right before Christmas Past shows up, his quick but memorable intro scene. Loved him in Scrooged!
39:01 Nowadays, with exposure on the Internet and people's perception that they can judge everything and everyone, it is very difficult not to disappoint someone, the standards are unreachable! Thank you for exposing yourself and for making the interviewees feel free to do the same even though they know they can receive criticism for everything!
Great interview! I was hoping 52 Pick-Up would've come up in the conversation. John has played so many deliciously evil villains, but that one always stands out for me.
I'm really happy I stumbled across you again in life. Keep doing this. Keep being you. Keep searching inside. Great show man. John is an absolute legend
Thank you for this podcast Michael, having these conversations and the respect you have for Mr. Glover is heartwarming, it reminds me of having conversations with my grandmother before she really lost her memory, letting him speak even when he had trouble remembering and helping when he needed help just made me feel so good inside.
A masterful father and son duo from Smallville and which continues nowodays !❤❤❤❤ But in the good sense of the word !! Always a treat when you receive John Glover, Michael !! 👌💙💙💙
love this guy , a great actor and so real, just like a next door neighbor. and a real paper, my older friend is 82 , not digital paper for her shes old school , only the real paper will do , good to see john, thanks Michael and Ryan too
One of my favorite character actors. The first thing I can remember him from was an episode of the Twilight Zone from the 80's, 'A Small Talent For War'. The character was an odd combination of seemingly benevolence but with hidden menace.
If John Glover is missing acting work and also looking for something to do, someone should teach him how to play D&D and get him in a game - I bet he'd have a blast!
